Disturbing...

Anyone else find it disturbing that WoW can put out new commercials with semi/has-been actors, and UO still isn't even listed on the EA game search listing?
I'm not saying that they should do commercials or in-store promotions (Although having the game on a shelf would be great, even in the discount section) but at least a minimal acknowledgment would be nice. It almost seems as though EA is ashamed to have to keep UO on its books.

I seriously doubt any of those actors even play wow. The fact they even try to get people to think they play wow so they will sign up is stupid.

I think it's sad. I really do hope that when they finally get around to releasing SA they don't fail to follow it up with some proper and WELL deserved PR..... some real advertising....
Please click the egg/hatchling and help it grow

they blew their chance at greatness or a return to greatness with ML.... you seriously think they will do any better with SA?? I really would like them to prove me wrong, but i think that a monkey with a buget of 25$ could advertise UO better than EA/Mythic can.

Heh even $.50 could do it. Even a simple link added to the EA search site would be a nice bone to the dogs, it is only 5 minutes of work for a web admin tops.

Agreed. Those commercials will convince me to play WoW the same way actors influence who I vote for.

EA needs to market UO for what it is:

A classic, nuanced game that attracts the mature gamer, whether that gamer is 14 or 54, it is a sophisticated gamer who doesn't always need to be playing the latest, most popular game, but understands greatness.

No one cares if there are celebrities playing UO, UO is a place where celebrities can go to immerse themselves in society without being noticed but still feel part of the community. UO is the real celebrity.

UO is the AmEx Black Card of MMORPG's.

Stupid like people are. If they got Chuck Norris on one of those they would probably get 10,000 new subs.

UO will exist until it is no longer profitable. on that day we will all be surprised and devastated because it will be sudden, it will come the day after a publish, or the day after a new event is announced.

rest assured, there will always free shards. forever.

the day EA gives up is the day UO becomes free and legal for everyone, including all former developers.

seriously. like it matters. there are free shards that EA is doing nothing about NOW. do you really think they will bother after the game is DEAD?

that wasn't the core of my statement anyway, the point i was trying to make is that even after EA gives up on UO, it's still going to be around and people will still be able to play it.

you go ahead and read the copyright law if you are so interested in it.

Do you know how much those commercials cost? World of Warcraft can do it because they are making over $100 million a month now. UO has probably only made slightly more in its entire lifetime. There is no way UO could afford to do that level of advertising. Plus it wouldn't even make the least bit of economical sense to advertise in that way for UO's case even if the money was available.

EA isn't advertising UO right now because there is nothing to advertise. No box on the shelf. No expansion. Not even a major content publish. Telling people to come to UO right now is throwing dollars in a waste bin.

Mr T: I'm Mr T and this is my Elf Nox Mohawk.

Director: T, there's no such thing as a Elf Nox Mohawk...

Mr T: Shut up fool! Maybe Mr T hacked UO and created a Mohawk class!? Ever think of that Mr Condescending Director?

Director: Well, that's pretty likely and I bet EA didn't even notice.

A game with millions of subscribers wants to both add to and maintain their huge player base.

Also they have more money to throw around for no reason in particular.

I don't find it disturbing at all. Honestly I would find it disturbing if they wasted money advertising UO on television.

What effect do you think that would have in a television market dominated by channel flipping and an increasing number of the most-watched shows are on channels with no or limited commercials?

At WoW's level, television advertising isn't about subscribers, it's about maintaining their status as a culture-wide phenomenon.

UO is not a culture-wide phenomenon, it's more specialized.

UO is more likely to outlast WoW than it is to ever outstrip it in terms of subscription numbers.

I was actually talking more about how EA doesn't have UO on it's game index. But the topic of the thread seems to have switched so I am done commenting.

Oh.

Well yeah, that sucks.

What also sucks is that we are still not listed on Mythic's main page:

http://www.mythicentertainment.com/

even though we appear to have more players than DAoC.

ps: Jeremy....How did that E-Mail go?
