I am confused ....

Please help, I was in Shame last night killing Earth Ellys and Scorpions to build up my Archery, when all of a sudden an Item appeared in my back pack.

It is a Map of the Known World.

In all the time I have been playing and all the time I played before I never had anything like this happen. I forget what the screen said, something about Efforts and Valor etc...

What is this map worth and why did I get it? Please help out a confused new/old player.
