Another game has ripped off UO , and, as per usual they took a concept found originally in UO and made it better.

Warhammers Public Quest system is basically a champ spawn. The monsters are different and their is some actual changes in it but it's essentially a champ spawn in all respects.

HOWEVER, they take into account everything that is done from the beginning levels all the way through to the boss. If you don't contribute and just come in and kill the boss the chances you will get something are slim. The top contributors(note NOT top damage dealers) get points based on how much they did to progress the spawn.

In addition, it keeps track of the times you did the spawn(PQ) and didn't get a reward and gives you a bonus to your random roll(used to determine loot) at the end.

They have all the modifiers. Amount of contribution + random roll + lack of previous reward.

This is the same type of thing myself and others have suggested for champ spawns, whether they give power scrolls, alacrity scrolls or otherwise.

Sadly, if they add it in now people will just moan about UO is trying to be WO.

Isn't WO made by EA too?

Now we know where the developers are who actually know how to code, I guess.

Huh, you know, I never would have made that connection. It seems just as likely that it was derived from WoW's group quests + the more open group creation system in WAR than actually expanded from non-instanced group content like champ spawns, but it's one of those things where there were probably lots of influences.

I can't think of an "Evil in a can" scenario like the PQ's or champ spawns in WoW. I got bored at level 60 and didn't go any further but there is only 1 quest on the hoard side that even comes close.

These PQ are nearly identical to champ spawn. They start at low level and progress as more MOBS are killed. The difference is they have coded into it other ways to progress the spawn(ie save hostages etc). There are generally 3 level that end with a boss. Champ spawn all the way. Except better implimented.

Could you imagine how many people would cry, moan, pancake, and generally throw a hissy fit if they had to actually WORK the spawn from the first level instead of raiding it just as the boss is about to pop? :D

To be expected, UO is just a old Obscure VR that all the Other Games build off of.
Go take a look for information about UO at Mythic or EA. Just a general Search gets you nothing if anything at all..

All new games will prob take a little bit of the old and tweek them for some thing new,
Original Programing is Scarce now a days, cheaper to change what is ALLREADY coded...

Who cares about their moan, as far as game mechanism of UO is getting better. If UO can copy all the best features in other games and return to its glourious days, I will be thrilled!

I agree changing the PS reward mechanism is a much better idea than moving champ spawn to tram rule set areas or given out by the highly scriptable bod system.

I wouldn't dream about changing the current fel spawns. Wouldn't want to hear the crying to be honest. This would be something that would really benefit the other useless wastes of server code and resources in illshenar and the ML dungeons.

What really makes this idea work is the rewards. You get the same rewards every time. While that may sound stupid it prevents people from camping them over and over and over again. The beauty of the system is you can move on to the next one and it has a different reward. Each reward is tailored to your class but I could easily see this catered to your skillset for UO's usage.

Not wanting to go on and on but UO has the ability to take the same system this is built on and go with it as well. Unfortunately the champ spawn system is some type of hand off system as it's never been tweaked since it's introduction short of the most minor of changes.
