Miner keeps dropping ingots

S

I brought this up about a month ago on the site to GMs. Never got a reply. My miner after he smelts ingots off his fire beetle will occasionally drop some of them on the ground. I will run to next spot to mine only to have to run back and retrieve the ingots dropped. I have monitored my weight and he is not overloaded when this happens. Has anyone else encountered this? It happens in all lands more in fel. I mine for jewels in trammel lands because they are not double resources and they depend on hits, ingots in felucca for dbl ore. Will this change? Dbl jewels that is in fel.

Sorry I can't help ya, but my wife has the same issue in Tram and Fel. She just says her beetle pooped more ingots and happily stuffs them in her pack.

Just a little comic relief. Just clean up after your beetle and move on :)

That's happened to me too, although I have no idea if it happens one one facet more than another. I don't know of a cause or solution and haven't seen anyone else post about it. It's not just you though!

Ever wonder why you can smelt ingots on the fire beetle, and yet somehow sit right on it's back to ride it? Wouldn't that hurt just a little bit?

I actually think that the beetle is pooping ingots cause it happens to me all the time. maybe it's an intended joke lol

I believe this happens if your character is overloaded at the time you smelt the ore on the fire beetle's back.

I have had this happen at times as well, never seen a response from a Dev on this but at a guess I think whats happening is that it is totalling the weight of ore (being used) and the ingots (you would recieve) and if weight of them both together puts you above what you could carry the ingots drop to ground. It shouldnt add the ore in to weight calculation as the ore is actually going away but from trial and error this seems to be what I have found that could be causing the issue.

This can happen when you smelt the ore and are still close to your carrying capacity.

This can also happen if you have too many items in your pack. Doesn't sound like the case here though.

I have had another problem with dropping ingots onto my packie and the ingots not stacking. Took me almost a half an hour to re-stack my ingots the other night.

Yup this is it. I had this happen alot when I smelted. This happens when you are overloaded or close to it. Something like the stone wieght of the ore you are smelting does not get subtracted from the total wieght in your pack before the ingots stone wieght is added. As if for a brief period both ore and ingots exist in your pack. The result is the ingots drop to the ground becasue you are overloaded. I really haven't mined since the changes so I can't quite remeber.

Next time your out try filling up and smelting the small ore first. I think thats what did it for me.

I think this is correct. My miner drops them when I am close to the weight limit.

I get this problem a lot I take one ingot from one stack and one ingot from the other stack and combine those two (usually works but not everytime) then take the two offending stacks and drop them on the new stack

It got me really bad. I kept mining and mining for about an hour and a half. I had the packie's pack minimized and just kept dropping the ingots in it. I was miffed to find out they were all piled up in little stacks that had to be re-stacked.

gotcha I thought you meant you had two stacks that refused to combine I see now that you meant multiple stacks taking a looooong time to grab and drop them all whew bet you don't forget to look again lol.

Here is how this seems to work.

Assume you have a char that can carry 500 stones.

Assume you have more than 400 stones of ore and stuff in your backpack in several piles.

If you smelt a pile that by removing it does not get you down to below 400 stones in your pack - it will drop the ingots to the ground. EVEN THROUGH you are not overweight.

However, if you smelt a stack that when removed WILL put you under 400 stones - the ingots go in your pack.

The best practice here is ALWAYS smelt the larget stack of ingots first. IE if you have 20 shadow ore and 5 iron ore in your pack. Smelt the shadow first, then the iron and you should not drop any. Go the other way around and you will likely drop the iron ingots to the ground.

I haven't 'road tested' all the numbers - but I know if I follow the best practice, I rarely drop ingots to the ground.

<nods> Yup. Have had that happen quite often, but it appears to be basing the ingot drop on the old stone-weight calcs of overload. I can't say 100% that I'm right but it sure seems to happen more often when over that limit.

If y'all haven't sent that in as a bug, please do so. It may be more trouble than it's worth to fix (it may be intrinsic to the way item weights are handled, or it may be preventing some weird exploit) but I'd like to have someone look at it to be sure.

Because the code for smelting isn't recognizing the additional max weight bonus that you get for being human with the ML expansion.

It happens with quite a bunch of things like cutting cloth to bandages etc.

Smelt the large stack of ore in your backpack first...not the smallest!
There is no bug here!

Ummm, I always follow this for smelting ... Fire Beetle or not: All large ores from pack or packie; mediums of either type; smalls. It invariably will drop ingots when doing the larges.

Jeremy? Understand ... will try to get numbers next time my miner is on. He's long overdue for a run ... it's as good a time as any.

Turned it in back in Jan. useing the bug button. I didn't turn it in when makeing up the list of things in the study group since I had used the bug button already. First for me it was always Iron. Second it was not all the ingots in the smelt only from 1 to 16 droped. also it as my elf miner. Max str is 477 using KR macro. Was not overloaded. I place one of each or on the bar. (takes several bars to do all shapes and colors) When it shows up on that bar I click it and it smelts useing target current. That way I never overloaded since I only needed to hit the bar between it. Mineing macro used. Gather resources Only 1 shovel was used the drop for the shovel was kept open and set to the bottom left side. (so it didn't cover the screen.) next to the first bar so that I only needed to drop a new tool without opning up the macro again. Macro number was set to 10. At about the same time turned in (again the button) Prospecting tool did not work with that macro. After that I let it go since I was thinking it to be another test since it was not corrected.

Not all this info was turned in at the time. ONLY the fact it was droping iron ingots. Char name that turned it in as Josh if you care to look it up. The area that was mined at the time was near Grimswind. Did The same at Cove. Cotton Candy

Exact situation is as follows:
Maximum capacity of backpack is 600 stones - this limit is applied to ore.
My carrying capacity is 565 stones - this limit is applied to ingots.
This difference and inconsistence is creating the problem.

I normally fill backpack to just over 564, which is 600-3*12, or reserve for
three large ores, but sometimes I go over.
Now take this situation, I have filled my backpack up to 598 stones and I
smelt two large ores, 24 stones, so my backpack goes down to 574, which is
still over my carrying capacity, so I drop ingots to the ground.
Same rule should be applied to both situations.

This is correct logic. Smelting small stacks when over the weight limit makes fire beetles poop. Large Stacks First...or L.S.F., is the word of the day, for to prevent Fire Beetle Ingot Pooping, or F.B.I.P.!!:lick:

I've seen this happen while cutting bones. My gut feeling is that the coding creates the ingots or bones first, then deletes the bone piles or ore piles. Thus it weighs a combination of the ingots and ore piles and determines you are overburdened, thus dropping the ingots on the ground.

perhaps you should try smelting smaller amounts of ignot's. i do this and don't have a dropping problem, then again i don't try to 'max out' my smelting.
sure sounds like the reason it's doing this is because there is a limit to how much weight you can put into your packpack, also you can only combine ore types if you have 'room'.
this smelting issue happens even if you have ignots in your backpack and use a forge, your trying to do to many at one time, so they fall to the ground.

no bug here, try to not be so much in a hurry to smelt that huge pile of ore.

strange, i go to fel and get ton's of gem's, i go to tram and mine and get crap.

Put the bones in a salvage bag, then cut them all at once using the bag's menu to "Salvage All" and you won't drop any.

It's actually no big deal to me. Nobody is ever around to steal em. Also, I'm not out there to collect bones, but just picking them up as I train newbie characters on zombies. As such, they don't invest in salvage bags. I just thought there were parallels in how ingot smelting and bone cutting seems to work which is why I mention it here.

The rule is simple.
  1. You can mine when you're over your normal carry capability (indicated on your character sheet). But then any step or turn of your character will cost you 5 stamina points. Not good for ore elemental hunt.
  2. Once you reach the maximum capacity (far over the indicated carry capability and in proportion of your STR), the ore you mine is lost.
  3. When you want to smelt a pile of ore, remove its weight to your current weight. If it goes under your normal carry capacity, the ingots will go to your backpack. If it's still over your normal carry capability, it'll drop on the ground.

It's not new, but I agree the ingots could go in the backpack even if it means you're still overweight.

Well I just got finished mining for 2 hr with the KR macros for mining and smelting. 477 is my normal carry weight. I went all the way to 574 (when I was losing ore) and lost no ingots with the KR macros. Seems it was fixed back when I turned it in for KR.

What ore colors drop. It was always iron for me.
It does not matter what the color is. It will drop them. I have tried the smelt large amount first also and it still will drop them but only on ocassion. That is what is strange. Usually 1 to 16 as another post implied

Iron is there almost every time you mine. Most times it is also the largest amount. Didn't matter if I smelt the iron first of the color first it was always iron that was dropped for me.

Arrrrr, all me characters carry a skinnin' knife fer skinnin', and a pair o' scissors fer cuttin' hides and bones. And usually a sextant as well!

If you are over over the "old weight limit" you can still drop things. It happens all the time when im on my crafter who can hold over 500 stones as a human still manages to drop stuff while im at like 450 stones
