Disarmable shields?

Anyone else notice that since the publish you can disarm shields as long as the persons weapon/spellbook is already disarmed.

Way to pretty much remove parry from the game

Maybe because we shouldn't be able to spam disarm.
Maybe it would work better if special move used stamina.

Disarm is now more OP then. Great stuff... It was time I dropped my Parrying, it never saved me anyhow even when it was 120 and 45% DCI.

Please give us Dual Wield at least? :p I'll keep asking for it 'till I get arthritis...! :lick:

I like it.
Now if they would only make magery effective if spell book was in hand.

I'm going to guess that is unintended.

QA strikes again!!

Jokes aside I believe all those small changes here and there are paving the way for the coming rebalance.

Casting requiring you to hold a book for magery.. Wasn't it like that way back for a brief time? I clearly remember every single mage running around with books equipped for a short period.. Could be confused.

The rest of the casting skills should work as they do now though, half or all of their spells fit templates that require weapons. Even Spellweave!

Yeah we should also make it so Archers hit for 70..

Oh wait nvm they do.

This has always been in place. I remember having my shield disarmed while messing around testing stuff. I had my cousin spam disarms on me and when my weapon was not in my hand and he hit me with disarm a second time my shield would pop right off.

It never worked perfectly though maybe the change for spellbooks had an impact on how well you could disarm a shield?

All I know is it DID work before this but was not always reliable especially if the person had a re-arm macro going on.

I believe that so long as your character has parry you run the risk of having your shield disarmed.....

Aaaaand now for the essential question of how exactly you disarm someone's shield...

LOL.. ;P Jump on it and start going all Gollum like, in the last scene where it was wrestling with Frodo.. ;PppPp

It's totally ridiculous.. FFS.. :lick: The only efficient way I personally know to get rid of your enemy's shield is to bash it until it breaks and that is very tedious and time consuming task at least IRL, if you look at shield blueprints..

I'm all for maces getting back their stamina damage x2 and having an extra special move that negates parrying for a few seconds. Maybe on the large 2Hand maces only.

I love the idea. I've always thought it was silly that shields couldn't be disarmed by someone with the proper skills to use disarm. Now I'm really glad, I've started working on wrestling and tactics for my thief on Siege...la

There's no single proper "skill" to disarm someone, just a special move.
And it still remains completely unexplainable how you can achieve this.. ;P
I know real life doesn't/shouldn't apply in games -and I promote this line of thinking- but I find this completely ridiculous nevertheless.

So now I can spam Disarm not only on melee templates based on shields but also on mages and completely negate their defensive and offensive abilities.

Moreover Disarm/Archers will now be dramatically more effective. With an extra disarm their target won't just lose their Defense from weapon skill but also their block while they are hunted down with Moving Shot. Yay(NOT!)..
Maybe this over-all hit chance decrease of Archery should really stay.

As if anyone was carrying shields with all the potion chugging..
I guess now only Bushido templates can effectively utilize the Parrying skill, indirectly at that, since they aren't holding a shield.

It's too early to judge, they may even change pots in the near future. But for now UO is flirting with imbalance IMHO.

I don't believe you need tactics to use the specials for wrestling. I was on my mage last week and I was using specials with no tactics. I believe the tactics requirement is for weapon specials only. A quick check on test shard would tell me, but I am at work.

I'd like to know if this is the case. Dropping my training on tactics would make me happy. Especially since I'd be able to drop detect hidden back into my template...la

Disarm
Effect: This attack allows you to disarm your foe. A successful Disarm leaves the victim unable to re-arm another weapon for several seconds.
Mana Cost: 20
Primary On: Bare Handed (using Wrestling skill,) Rune Blade, Ornate Axe
Secondary On: War Fork, Mace, Shepherd’s Crook, Magic Wand, Pick Axe, Hatchet, Butcher Knife, Skinning Knife
Duration: Target cannot arm another weapon for 5 seconds. This move is also exempt from the Tactics requirement when used as an Unarmed (wrestling) special move.

Nope, it has never been this way. I believe the logic was because the spell is learned so you dont need to hold the book.

That is why you see the spell power words over the head of the caster.

so does that mean since my archer has "learned" the moves dismount and running shot that i shouldnt need a bow in my hands either?

imo spellbooks should be in the caster's hands to get the full effect of their spells, and i also feel that any spellbook should be filled with spells to get the benefits from it....ie slayer books and books with other mods on them

Wurd.

Disarming shields may require a second disarm. Usually only the weapon is disarmed with a single special, but when chained it can cause the removal of the shield and extend the amount of time before either can be re-equipped.

All I can say in reply is all those warrior types out there better make sure they are becoming familiar with the use of macros.

Can this be done with the spellbook in hand? Or can the spell book be disarmed first?

If nobody knows, I'll do some experimenting tonight...la

i dont understand this..., disarming spellbooks and now shields too :(. nerfing mages, why?!? IAM DEXXER, and as far as i can say mages are 1 vs 1 totally underpowered, they need more power not lower power. Bad CHOICE!!

I can tell you dont pvp, as this idea would allow special moves to be spammable with refresh pots......try thinking first then post second

I've tried a scrappers...no can do. The spell book, I understand. It's technically a container, and ever since the container rules were changed (to protect those valuable bags of sending) there is probably no chance that will happen...la

omg how can someone disarm a shied... think a bit imo ther r just 3 ways

1) u break the shield.
2) u break/cut the arm.
3) the shield holder disarm it.

shields r always very well bond to the arm and not just by an hand.
i think is a unwanted bug.

my 2c.

Having spellbook in hand in order to make spells effective... so that takes out ANY kind of mage/hybrid/tank...that's lame. My first chr ever was a swords mage on Pac about 8 or so years ago. I love hybrid mages. Next are you going to say tamers should have to wield a crook to make their pet obey and to use the chivalry skill you have to be wielding a holy sword and necro spells to be effective you have to be holding a bone staff?

Is this still in game (can I still disarm shields ?)? If yes, is this bug that we can disarm shield, or it is change from one of publishes ?

I don't understand how people refuse to believe it would be possible to disarm a shield. Not all shields were securely fastened to thier wearer, to do so would risk injury to the arm holding it when forced into an unnatural position. Shields could be ripped from thier owners grasp, or the arm manipulated into a position where dropping the shield would be necessary, espeicially easy if you have already disarmed thier weapon. At the risk of using a bad film as an example look at how menelaus ripps paris's shield away in the troy movie, granted not actual real life combat but the principle is the same. If a weapon can be disarmed, I fail to see how it would be impossible for the same to apply to a shield.

Fixes/Changes

Combat

-Disarm will no longer affect shields
-Hiryus will only use the dismount special attack on mounted players
-Killing Solens with a pet will properly remove friendship with the nes
-Ranged attacks on slimes will no longer cause acid damage to your weapon
-Successfully taming an aggressive animal will stop its attack
-Tamers can no longer aggro with their pets and stay hidden
-Mounts under the effect of Nerve Strike will not be able to be mounted
-Wandering healers will no longer attack players who drink a refresh potion
-Wraith Form will not lose pass-through ability when crossing server boundaries
From the fact that they fixed it in the upcoming publish, I assume it wasn't supposed to happen in the first place =D
