I've been playing WoW now for awhile. Mainly just for the PvP aspect. But I really miss UO PvP. Because it seems in WoW stats decides everything when it comes to pvp, but atleast in UO it seems like it just plays a part, rather than being the determing factor. Anyways, I was wondering if you guys could give me some good reasons to come back and play....?

I must say I insanely miss playing the game and mostly the community aspect of everything. Because all these 3d mmo games there is practically no community interaction. Like planning events and stuff... Their form of a community is guilds and they conduct raids and instances and stuff.... I miss the good times when I used to just sit at taverns on end talking to people about different stuff and going to vendor malls and running across random strangers and striking up a conversation.

I played from 1999-2004. I have came back several times and to my dismay I can never get a leg up in the game. I mainly play on the Lake Superior server and have since I started the game. My main problem is in the game everyone sells stuff for so much and it seems like crafting classes are no more, or is it just me???

I do have one question, I heard awhile back ago they deleted chars or something like that? So does that mean even though I had all my chars maxed out I will have to start all over again? Or was it they just deleted their stuff in the bank and in their packs?

Ohh and one more question what all addons am I going to need? Do you still have to use UO Assist or have they developed the game enough to now where you don't need it?

Thanks!

I'm sure all your characters and items are still intact, unless you left a house up somewhere before you quit.

I just recently returned myself and I'm having a good time playing! I think the thing about UO is to try to get in the mindset of acquiring items yourself instead of buying them. Last time I returned I tried to just buy items and I found myself getting really bored after a short while. If I want to shop, I'll go to Best Buy... :)

This time I'm excited about working up a new character and getting out there to make some gold and hopefully earn some arties myself!

To my knowledge, they have not done a character purge, but even if they had they state they only delete characters whose total skill points are less than 350 (if I recall the number correctly) so your characters should all be there still.

PvP is all item and UOA based.. or just make a tamer.

The communitah is on life support, but there are a few remaining.. Check out the events calendar.

Crafting is useless with the exception of duped val hammers and barbed runic kits.. Run around Luna.

Your characters might be gone if your account was inactive/unpaid for 6 months i think? Not sure.. 1998-Present for me.

If either of you decide to choose Pacific as your home let me know. I'd be more than happy to give ya a head start back into the game.

Yes, pvp is item based, but so is much of the game, that's the way it went, and just make a tamers not as easy as it sounds.

communication, it's no big deal to me, as it is to others.

Crafting's not useless, that's one guys opinion.

UO's like a relationship, it has deeper personality than WoW. Things are always changing, still. You won't find what UO offers in other games.
You either like it or you don't, and the cool part is, the relationship is one sided.....unless someone wants to count the devs, then, in that case, Uo is wayyyy too much a part of someones life.

If you can't enjoy UO as a passtime, and it gets to the point where you have to rant and complain......then online gaming and sitting has overwhelmed your life too much.

I've stuck it out, good with the bad, never quit once.....what will be will be.

come back, it's better than world of waste.

I will have to say that "Community Activity," that is not PvP based is one of the main reasons that I'm still here. If I want PvP, I simply go to Felucca. But most of my activities are around the whole civil activities and player-run cities. You can fight when you wish, but if you want to have friends over after some joint conquest, "hey guys, let's saddle up to the bar and have a drink and discussion." ... like ok, how can we actually improve abilities and do some good runs as a group?

Do you miss being able to "Role-play," a character rather than have to run off and fight the (what-ever?)

I've heard it from WOW players before, but if you had items or gold in bank accounts and log back in, they are probably still there for you to access and rebuild. :)

UO is even more frusteratingly item centric than WoW. In WoW, you know what to get and where to get it, in UO good gear is all chance, plus you have to pay to keep from losing it.

I'm about to get totally demonized here but if PvP is what you seek, look at Warhammer instead.

PvP is useless IN FELUCCA. Because there, people use cheats and dirty tricks to win, and without speedhack and uber items you won't have a chance.

However, guild wars in Trammel are very much fun. They are fair, they require team works and tacitcs, and they are all but item based.

Well the main reason I would like to come back is not because of the PvP aspect at all. Thats just one of the many joys I've had in UO. It's mainly the community aspect of the game I miss so dearly. Because in an MMO without a community the game to me is just a bore. And in WoW there is a community to an extent, but for the most part there is none. Like the community aspect of wow is mainly just guilds and friends. But it's alot nicer in UO when you can actually sit face to face on screen and have a conversation rather than sending tells all the friggin time.

Is there any sites that help with the quests and such in UO? because the last time I played I truely was lost. Because it didn't exactly point me in the right direction, but try to tell me the items I needed. So some of the stuff I was just like WTH, and then when I did figure it out, these were quests I couldn't even compete on because the monsters were so hard.

I think I will atleast try to give it another go around, because I miss UO so much!!

Well I hope I can log into the game!! I just re-activated my account, but on the acct page it says it's still suspended!! I tried logging in but it said my account was still suspended!!! So I don't know what to do!! Shouldn't it have worked if it accepted my billing info?

Yes it was suspended because I cancelled it. This is getting confusing because I called the customer service number and it said go to this website.... And I guess it said to enter ur member name and password, and it won't work on their ea.com page. But it works on the uo.com/account page. This would be alot easier if I could talk to someone lol....

When my husband and I came back in 2002, we had one old account left that we hadn't sold. All of our old characters on that account, made around launch, had all been wiped (and yes, they all had maxed out skills, loot in the bank, etc). Account had been off for a few years. Reports from several of my friends who've gone back over the years have confirmed that they did at least one purge between 1998 and 2002. I don't believe they have purged since then, though, since none of my other newer accounts has ever had characters purged, and they've been inactive as long or longer than the first one had.

I agree with previous posters though - if you're looking for a game that isn't item/stat-centric, UO is definitely not the right call. I'd say it's even more item-centric than WoW, and certainly more frustrating in that area. It's not unfun exactly, it's just that it's next to impossible to 'catch up' nowadays without oodles of cash or an uberguild, the game scales very poorly, it's definitely not the old UO by far. If you are looking for PvP that is all about team skill and zero about items, you ought to look into something like Guild Wars, or save your money and try a new game like Warhammer, before giving up and going back to an older sandbox game.

I just wish I could get my account to work lol. I goto the uo.com/account page and it works, but then I try logging in at the ea.com/account page it won't work. But then I try making the account on ea.com and it says the usernames of all these different accounts I have are all already taken, but I can't log into them..... Like wth...... lol

- Good stuff.

You know what is fun? Waltzing thru the newer lands that you have not seen before.

But be careful, because seeing it all in gray is fun too, but not as much.

It is as much fun as you let it be.
I like to say hello to the random stranger I run across and see what they have to say back (although quite often people are preoccupied with their personal UO-missions.. but you do occasionally run across people that like to talk-it-up as well).

Oh yeah, welcome back.
& (.. rather than the standard UHall request for those that are quitting...)
Can I give u stuff?

Enjoy :)

Yeah I'm very glad to be back.... It feels great just walking through the streets again of my fair towns of Skara Brae, Britain, Trinsic and my lovely Serpents Hold.... Although the population seems a bit sparse this late of the night....! I'm DLing the Kingdom Reborn client now, but I dunno if I'll like it. But I figured I'd give it a whirl.... I have more fun in the game just running around looking at crap rather than killing monsters.... lol I hope to stay in these lands for a long time to come!!!
