Question: Double Strike Hit Effect

If you have a weapon that has Double Strike as a Special. And if said weapon has both Hit Lower Attack and Hit Lower Defense on it. Is it possible that on a successful Double Strike, (ie. both hits land home), both HLA and HLD could take effect?

Double strike and double shot are two different things and double strike does not ever have one shot hit and one shot miss, in my experience. I feel sure that you only get one instance of the hitspells and hit lower etc. effects when you use the double strike special.

Double SHOT is different, it exists on the Yumi bow and it actually fires two seperate arrows with seperate calculations for everything - hit chance, hit spell effects, parry chance of the target - everything. You can occasionally get some amazing shots out of a great Yumi. I miss being able to do the specials on a Yumi, my archer doesn't have Bush now :(.

Double Strike has been having only one or both hit for almost 5 years now.

It only goes off on the first hit succeeding - it is then possible for the second strike to miss.

Having both always land was something that made double-strike too powerful for PvP so they nerfed it for everyone in later 2003 or early 2004. I miss the days of ticking off my guildmate by doublestriking his summoned daemon with my demon slayer katana, and watching it drop like a rock instantly.

BTW, wasn't it answered just in the last month or so by the devs that HLA & HLD can go off on a target in the same swing, even on normal swings? it's not an either/or - they are separate rolls. I know I've had HLD, stamina leech and a hit spell all hit at once before on a weapon.

I've been using repeating crossbows with hitspells and HLD, and I've never once noticed what seemed to be the special failing (like one bolt misses) or the hitspell (its 40-some lightning) hitting twice when I do double strike. Is it possible that it works differently on the repeater than on big-hitting melee weapons?

Double Strike can miss on 2nd strike also on a repeater. If I am not mistaken I would call the Night Reaper a repeater.

Double Strike only goes off if the first strike lands and the 2nd hit has the same chance to hit as the first strike. It will miss even if the first strike lands.

I am not sure the difference between the two (i think they are the same). They made Double Shot requiring the user to be mounted and a secondary skill is probably the trade off for having Double Strikes on a slow hard-hitting weapon.

Also another thing to note, you can have direct hit damage spell go off twice if both shot hits but the double hit spell will not happen on any "delayed" spell types. So far I was able to do double shot with double lighting/harm proc (4 damage numbers) but never happened on hit magic arrow nor hit fireball.

I imaging if you can score a good yumi with hit lighting and velocity you can probably see 6 damage numbers in a single attack which could be devastating. My personal record on my archer with a hit lighting yumi using double strike was 68 total damage in 1 shot. That's against a guildie with all 70 resist without curse. :thumbup1:

Well now I'm hell curious about this and I'll have to find some time to make it to test center and watch really, really closely, with second account loaded up on the other computer (have to watch pvp, not pvm). I'd used both repeating crossbow and yumi a lot and it seemed clear at the time how the 2 specials worked, and how very different they were.

That is correct WarUltima I also have never managed to land Fireball/Magic Arrow spell effect on 2Strike(BUG) but I have had successfull 2Strike with x2 spells for Axe Of Heavens.

As for the second hit missing, I've DEFINITELY seen it happen.

To ask this question another way. Double Strike means two strikes in rapid succession. Does this mean that one or more of the Hit Effects on a weapon have a chance of being triggered with EACH hit, assuming each hit lands?

I have never seen 2 lightning bolts come out of my hit lightning repeating crossbow during that use of the double strike special. I have, though, seen 2 of the same hit spell pop out of a Yumi during double shot.

I've also never heard the sound of the double-strike special not happen when I use the special, and I don't recall seeing the message saying that I fail to perform the special (like you will when you miss a moving shot or a dismount on an archer).

I do wonder what's up, havent checked anything on test at this point.
