Bannings solely due to duping, or...

Apologies up front for the idle curiousity, but there are a lot of posts saying "I was unfairly banned but am not a duper," I doubt there are bannings for purchased possession (regardless of source), and the only other thing I noted recently that may lead to bans were the use of "young" characters in the Royal Muder Quest/ Melissa fight. At least on my shard, there were lots of players acquiring a ton of 25k tickets via young player exploits, were there bannings resulting from this that anyone knows of? It doesn't seem a far stretch to believe a 25k turn in ticket acquired this way be considered an illegal item by Mythic.

Ah, doubt away, but you'd still be incorrect. Jeremy has stated that people with large quantities of the duped items in their posession were included in the bans.

Not everyone did it. I for sure didn't myself, having refused to exploit the quest in such a manner that it ruined them for everyone else that didn't do it either.

Conner thanks for the correction :)

I looked at what she said again, she did say specifically regarding hammers, possession of 2-3 weren't a problem. She also mentioned someone complaining on the boards had 160 items, but not what those items were. If they were Mel's cloak or 25k tickets, it's very likely the young player exploit was behind it.

It doesn't matter really, I just thought if we're all going to spin in circles regarding an issue, we would all be better served if we knew what the issue/ issues actually is, and in light of EAs non-disclosure policies I don't think Jeremy can say for sure.

Most likely, it was some rares collector, who'd put together a collection of rares not caring whether they were dupes or not. So many true rares are server birth, or existed in tiny numbers (less than even server births, if not unique) from events and specials (some of the old pay for an in-game party, etc. events). Yet, many of these were present in the game in quantities of over 100. Every time a rares collector buys something from another shard, especially with a 7-9 digit gold value, they take a chance that its a dupe. In some cases they KNOW it is a dupe, and just don't care!

That kind of addiction to collection has led to the downfall of a number of rares collectors (think of it as the pixel version of the "cat hoarders" you see on Animal Planet, with a 1-bedroom apartment with 100+ cats). They have convinced themselves that they were not doing anything wrong, when they knew, or had reason to suspect, that the items they were buying were dupes.

I've not seen any confirmation of it yet, but I suspect the 1-account bans were a matter of EA actually being LENIENT on the rares collectors that had shopped too unwisely (and only deleted the offending account), and that in the case of actual dupers (or rares collectors that lent unique items to be duped), that EA went after as many accounts as they could find of those types.

IF EA were really being as draconian as the "victims" (and their naive supporters) claim, they would have had all their accounts banned. But that didn't happen.

Good point!! I had not even thought of this. It really could have been all their accounts instead of just the 1. Case in point: could have been 21 accounts and not just the 1.

I really hope this isn't the case because it misses the mark.

Folks who are innocent or believe that they are innocent, are likely to be very hurt by the accusation and quit all their accounts anyway.

Folks who are not innocent and just in it for the money are likely to shrug and go on about their bad business.

The appropriate action is to be very very sure you have the right folks and perma ban all their accounts and prevent their return in every way that you can.

Very possible. A few of our Chessie IDOC habituals were at Melissa talking about a house they had just looted, and the list of rares, including many server-ups was long and distiguished. Would have loved the spitoon.

Also possible just runics, I noted just before Mel showed up that 3 Luna vendors had val hammers at 14 mil each (all were in a corner of the backpack so hammers may have been stacked). Being a dummy, I remembered comments here during one of the events we missed that rewards included high end hammers, so I really thought nothing of it (and unlike many here still believe 14 mil isn't so cheap (my only val hammer experience has been on TC1, where I made way too many mage weapons to believe these things are an end all answer)). I never even thought about duping, I figured folks were selling as they had no turn-in point value. And I'm far far away from being new.

It's also possible the new player thing factored in, honestly I hope it did. I strongly disagree with the post above that everybody did it, we only seemed to have a handful, as the characters that consistently rolled through the event were named/ attired almost identically.

Quess we'll never know!

No it's not a good point at all
Probably all it means is that they didn't look hard enough into who was in possession of dupes (or think hard enough either)
They probably just ran a script that returned account names and banned all that showed up
