you got to remember you cant judge new games by the way they run UO because the code for UO is over 10 years old , so yes I will buy EA/Mythic games in the future

Despite the faCT (i use fact loosely) that some High profile (loud and annoying) players have got (one account) banned, UO is still a highly fun game to play.

Yes you can....
Mangement is management

If its poor here it will be poor elsewhere

It all depends on the game. I won't play another level based, groups required game low WoW again. If EA came up with another sandbox type game like UO, I'd be tempted to take a look at it if UO wasn't around anymore.

I dont see this as a "Management problem" as you do , I think they did the right thing (could have been done sooner). I think this is a "Player" problem.

Yes, I will continue to buy EA/Mythic titles in the future. I have never had any serious problems with the way EA/Mythic handles things. Granted, there are a few things I would change if I could, but I realize I'm not the one in charge, and that I am free to leave anytime I feel like it if I don't like the way things are going. I think the reason most people have a problem with the way UO is run, is because 1) they can't or won't adapt to changes 2) they want it their way or not at all and 3) they expect because they pay a monthly subscription fee that EA should be at their beck and call.

Yes, players left the holes in the game and left them unpatched for years. Well I've heard one dupe has been available for a decade.

Players have nothing to do with holes in the game or scheduling fixes. Also many of these problems were reported by players and left unpatched.

It's clearly a management issue

and LOL @ banning people for reporting bugs... Why not fix the bugs

Considering UO was my first MMO. I love the game for what it is but I can't exactly say I enjoy the way EA/Mythic have been running the show since Origin was bought over and finally disbanded in 2004?

And the fact that EA/Mythic took the responsibility of owning and maintaining the game does mean they are and should be obligated to give us a game of quality. The fact that they've failed to do so is even beyond my understanding.

Once I quit UO (or whenever it fails its self), It will most definatly be the last MMO game I play provided by EA or Mythic. Its a first lasting impression that neither company can handle and/or manage the tasks set ahand. And no this is not target or an insult toward the developers.

The way EA/Mythic runs UO doesn't positively nor negatively impact the chances of buying another game created or supported by EA or Mythic.

What I have seen from many of the developers and community liasons involved in UO (past and present) has impacted the chances of me buying a game they are involved in, both positively and negatively (more positively than negatively).

The biggest deciding factor on playing any new game, however, is the game itself. If the game looks fun, I'll give it a shot.
For MMOs, there better be a free trial period, or I won't play it. After that, I'd go on a month-to-month basis for at least a year, at which point I might switch to a 3 or 6 month at a time payment option.
For single player games, I'd prefer to have some trial version if possible, but that's not necessary.

People move around so much in the video game industry, and so much depends on the combination of people as opposed to the individual people... it's hard to justify blacklisting a company based on one game.

No, I won't. Recently I was asked to give feedback, and under "what I look for in a game" I put Customer Service as the main priority.
It's not UO (the game) that's at fault, for me at least, it's the steady degradation of the company's regards for the customer's needs that worries me most. This is a feature of EA/Mythic, not UO-specific, and I would never feel comfortable trusting them again.
Oh btw I was NOT myself a direct victim of this current cull, but people I know, who will sorely miss, have been.

EA doesn't have real customer Service, they have an automated telephone answering system. They also only have email response to electronic submissions to problems

This is not customer service at all

I'm kinda blind to which company makes which game.

If I were to quit UO I'd try WOW because it's subscription numbers are so huge. There must be something to that.

And I will totally be doing Fallout3 when it comes out, even though its single player. God I wish that had even a limited multiplayer capability.

I decided months ago not to buy another EA game after the malware (Securom) EA put into Sims 2 Bon Voyage. I'll continue to play Ultima until they shut Lake Superior off. That's it though, another EA game box will never enter this house.

Mythic was horrible in how they handled DAOC. Two years to uncover the berzerker imbalance the players were posting logs almost daily detailing. Didn't understand their own game and killed it with an expansion pack that flew in th face of everything DAOC had been. Allowed unfun imbalancing things like aoe mez and pbaoe stun to go unchecked and suck all the fun out of RvR. On and on.

When I heard they took over UO my heart sank. Apparently rightfully.

Anyway, I will NOT be playing WAR. I wouldn't have voluntarily chosen to restart UO if I'd have known Mythic was going to be in charge soon. There is no worse ward of a game.

Great question. I've been "thinking" it out as well. My first reaction to the recent bannings (I obviousely thought about it in a bit more depth than some who simply respond, "lolz good 4 u") was how this management would effect WAR. I remember when EA aquired WAR (cringed and simply shook my head) and can say that I stopped looking at WAR at that point.

Then, some great friends I've played with in the past started to hook up again to head to WAR. I started reading again (and was still VERY interested in WAR). After catching up on the interviews with Paul, Josh and Jeff, this is what I've decided:

I'm going to trust that EA has left them alone and let them do their own thing (as they've said in interviews). From what I've seen of them in their interviews, the WAR crew is a great bunch. For their sake, I hope their group remains and the Mythic group and isn't infiltrated by EA reps.

But, in the back of my mind, I will always remember how EA gradually took over Origin and will probably keep a more watchful eye on the situation than some. If the customer service degredates, if community relations are as they have been presented in this past week, I will more than likely quit and I can say with 99.9% certainty that I will never purchase an EA game after. So, it all boils down to what happens with WAR (for me anyway) and whether or not EA keeps their hands out of the cookie jar.

And yes, I have been in this situation before where it all boiled down to customer service and "proof." WoW suspected that my account was "hacked" and issued a lock on it (I had the collector's Edition, played from day one of the OB). They wanted me to "fax" my driver's license to them proving who I was. I wrote back stating that I would not, under any circumstances, "fax" a form of ID into the hands of a 19 year old RoXxer who could possibly use my identity in malliscous ways. However, I gave them facts about the account that only I would know (such as what level my main was when I deleted it accidentally and had them restore it, as well as her name, which was noted in their records). Still, they insisted on an ID. Not only did I not reactivate my account, all other account in my home were deactivated and I sent them an email stating that as further proof that I was the owner of blah blah account, that additional account accounts blah blah blah were deactivated (all of which were tied to the same credit card).

In hindsite, I should have copied a picture of my tauren druid, photo shopped it in, changed the address to Kalimdor and the age to level 39. :D

Yeah I would... like another poster said it's hard to run a game with 10 year old code, fix bugs that have been in it since day one of programming, and also update it at the same time, and fix the bugs that the updates make.

Ya if I was EA I would stop with the new content and spend a year on just updating the old code, working out bugs, and issues, stop with the new stuff for a bit, and make the game better, by fixing old bugs..... but that's just me... and EA is a big corp. with people that know "what they are doing" so to speak.... so I am sure that most of the stuff they do has been well thought out, and it's beyond most of our understanding's on "why" they do some of the stuff they do.

It's not a freeshard, where things can be done instantly with a few txt files, and server script updates... it's the real deal where those freeshards came from ... things have to go though checks and balances, and whatnot... well at least that's what I would think. They have more to loose then your basic free shard etc... and there customers are less understanding then your basic free shard player "oh well it's free ill check it out next week once it's back up again" ...

Just the way I look at it ... so yeah I would buy another EA game anytime that another good one comes out. (not a sports game player sooo most of the EA games are something I would not buy)

Businesses will tell ya bad word of mouth is far costlier than the most expensive PR campaign. While I suspect EA will survive.. this and other actions they have taken which have negatively affected their customer base will have an impact on their bottom line.

Probably not.

I hate to say it too, I was looking forward to Spore, but with all the Anti-Consumer DRM crap they are packing on to that game, it's just not worth the hassle to buy EA's single player games anymore either.

20 years ago EA was one of my favorite companies with bard's tale and other games, today I consider them a hostile entity and am fairly sure nobody who started EA has anything to do with it anymore. Probably exceptions.

Complaining about mythic is irrelevant, they have cortex bombs in their heads so they can't do what they want to half the time anyway, but EA seems to be like 95% lawyers and 5% Koster types, and absolutely devoid of anyone actually interested in the games they market. It's an old story, like NEW COKE! They get involved with something, tell the people who know what they are doing how to do their jobs, then stick a camera on them and leave. This is why we get our once a year message from the EA directors saying hi. (oh wait...nevermind, none of them are probably aware this game exists.)

drat, how did i get into Koster again? That weasel should get the 'most arrogant moron in the gaming industry'.

More arrogant than naive, I think. DD always seemed very head in the clouds. Still, arrogant and naive often lead to the same unfortunate result. I'd try another Koster game, if he had a strong co-designer to check his worst kumbaya instincts.

I dunno , I'm gonna cut them more slack
They did inherit this game from Richard Gariott and OSI many years ago
Maybe in a game in which they started the concept that they'd do a better job managing

I just think their concept here has been away from what Richard wanted (which I guess got his views overruled) and hence the game has been more like a avalanche

I think this is a "Player" problem.
i think so also,
also EA could remove the bugs that allow cheating of all sorts instead of banning people off the bat.
a person is going to do what they want regardless of what you tell them.
fix the problem so the people can't be a problem, then you can still keep your subscriptions too.

You really have to be kidding.
Can you honestly say that there is that much difference between the different company's running the different on line games.
Let's face it' the company's are not doing this for our benefit, they are doing it for profit.
The Dev's working on each game may be devoted to it, but the main corporation behind it is in it for profit.

If EA or any other company can come out with a game that I am truly interested in I will play no matter who puts it out.

I can not believe that anyone else would be any differnt...
