Spy vs Spy. EA vs Dupers.?

Hail: OK here is my dumb ass question of the week......I was told i get one a week no matter what...

Why does not EA just use someone and join the Hacker/Scripter/Duper sites? Even if it cost a few $, would this not be the most logical way to find out the, Who/What/when/where of it all?

You do more than a few accounts, you REALLY work on busting the majority of dupers... you lose accounts.

Banning a few here and there looks good for the public. Keeping the multitude of scripters and cheats is good for UO's financial bottom line. They _need_ those accounts.

Because the employees would find more profit in duping and switch to the other side.

I think they did that for some time.
At the moment they most likely just miss the people/programmers to watch it.

Warhammer has to be out soon and as they had to cut features there i bet they are like in all mmorpgs way behind schedule. So I would not be surprised if others will be called in to help out a bit with warhammer if they can.

I’d assume that they do have accounts for those type of sites, just painfully slow to fix the bug/dupe/cheat/whatever. Its probably just a matter of limited employees that don’t have enough time to research each cheat properly and fix them.

My guess is they knew of some duping methods and just hoped that not many would learn about it until they had time to fix it.

Anyone remember when we could smelt bods for ingots? Some issues just don't have priority and they hope not too many will abuse it anyway.

I think the problem here is that all these methods of duping weren't public until very recently, when the dupers began to sense that their goose is cooked. So they killed the economy, next they show everyone how to dupe so they can spread EA's resources thin chasing all the newbie dupers ... perhaps limiting their own exposure and allowing them to save stuff.

I don't think that the dupe methods were available to the public on any website until recently.

EA needs to implement methods to detect a dupe and instantly delete it and the original from the game.

Wrong...it was a legitamate platyer who blew the whilstle publicly on the latest round of duping...he went by Beerman72 here on these boards. He even went as far as to publicly post the dupe here on stratics, after getting *no love* from EA staff. Sometimes when issues get bad they REQUIRE public scrutiny in order to be fixed. Pressure from teh public often speeds up the process...in this case speed was of the essence...it only took TWO MONTHS for developer response...I think they deserve a hand!

They don't pay someone to join those sites for 2 reasons:

2. Libel
