Grand Mage Key in Citadel

Hi,

I'm trying to try Travesty in the citadel, but am having trouble in finding the Grand Mage who has the last key. I looked at UO Guide and tried following where it said. I found the secret doors after what I think is the long hall in the south wall, but no grand mage.

So.....could someone please post very detailed instructions for finding the Grand Mage or post a link that has really good maps of it all? Thanks!

What shard at you on?

I am going to try to recollect the path. I haven't gotten keys in a while.
If you have on CoT to see all the hidden doors take the one that is SE. Enter that and follow it (just like you are going to the travesty turn in table. The first big room is actually shapped like ] and just follow it until you find the next hidden door (very fast actually cause of all the spawn). the next room you find is actually very short. But there is a staircase at the west end. When you enter that, you will be in a very small room (no spawn, but sometimes a ninja falls in). The mage is in the END of this next room. He spawns with like 4 other mages (right before you enter the next hidden doors)

Here's a map I made up for the Grand Mage key if it helps. The big yellow X is where the mage spawns. Hope that helps some. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the maps and directions. I was able to collect the keys and battle Travesty.

I have a new question, though. So, I read that she is fought best with a mage or tamer. I tried a tamer, but had serious issues with her always targeting me. Even when I went barefists, she did a great deal of damage. Using a greater dragon, it was almost impossible to outrun her on foot. Also, since my tamer has peace, she kept playiing music and I wasn't able to cast spells like invisibility. My own peacemake had no effect on her. So exactly how does a tamer take Travesty on?

Next, I tried my mage. She has about 27% SDI, max LMC, and mana regen of 5. I went in and used EVs and it worked just fine. The problem though was the damage. I think the EVs were doing very little damage, maybe 7 or so points? I tried a variety of mage spells against her with basically low damage again. Being on horseback, she posed no real danger to me...but at the rate of damage I was doing, I think it would take hours literally to beat her. I tried elementals but they fared about the same as the EVs. So...exactly what does a mage do to beat her?

Thanks!

nice map :).. where did you find it?
Thank you. :) Actually, I made it. I took the dungeon map pieces from here on Stratics (I think), might have been uo.com, and photoshopped it together and drew in the paths and markers. I did all the key rooms with maps and instructions for our alliance mates. Just dug out the Grand Mage map for this post quick before work this morning. lol

Helsan, from the way you are posting, would I be correct that you are trying to solo Travesty? If so, I don't know what to tell you. I would guess that maybe a tamer would do pretty good with a greater dragon but I would HIGHLY suggest taking peace OFF. You can't peace anything down there anyway and she'll just use area peace to get you. Put on protection so you don't fizzle on invises and such and heal like a mad person.

Other than that, I've always done Travesty in small groups (and large ones). I've never tried solo'ing her although I know some people do. I'm just not that "l33t". :p

Best characters to fight the mage is of course, a melee character or archer. What I used to do when I played UO more actively was to pop my Honor ability for the monster ignore, then proceed to kill the mage with nothing else attacking me and jetting out with the key in hand before the ignore wore off.
Mages sadly are pretty useless on these enemies it seems cause of the extremely high resists.

Yes, I was trying to do it solo, though I may also do it with one other person. My biggest problem with the tamer using a greater dragon was being on foot. I just couldn't outrun Travesty and she was constantly on me. So how do the other tamers deal with that? I could bring a rune beetle instead I suppose and have a steed, but then I fear she will still turn on me whenever I come to heal the pet. If I was somehow successful, how long would it take for a greater dragon or rune beetle to defeat Travesty?

Ideally, I'm looking for a way to do Travesty (including collecting the keys) in under a hour by either myself or me and just one person. Is that possible?

Thanks again for the help.

Sometimes the grandmage key alone can take an hour. It doesn't spawn on every grandmage. I've been there at times when we've had to kill like 15 of them to get it to drop. Similarly Irk's brain can be just as bad.
