Tattle Tales in UO

UO tattlers clog up the GM queue every time someone uses a swear word or even hints at breaking the rules thus making it take longer for them to help out people with real problems.

But where do you draw the line personally? What is your threshold for paging a GM? Should there be a penalty for people who constantly cry wolf?

Stuff I don't like:
People who cheat at PvP.
Scammers. (is legal unfortunately)
Unattended resource farmers/bod farmers.
Griefing player run/developer run events

Stuff I don't care about:
AFK skill gaining.
PvP smack talk that includes cursing.
Cheating against NPC/Monsters as long as you aren't farming gold AFK. (ie: solo champ/peerless)
2D Art Hacks (ie: field hack)

And they have hundreds of tattle tales. I think everytime you page on someone you should grow a tail. And every time after that it grows a little longer.
I had a blue beetle named "you are ugly" and someone paged. GM showed up and made me rename it lol....

The only time I've ever paged is on scripters in Tram. In Fel I kill them. That being said, rules are rules and if people are griefing or using obscene language I don't see a problem with someone paging on them; I just don't bother because I know how to ignore.

The only thing worse than a tattletale is a griefer.

There are penalties for people who page numerous times or with bogus problems, but the decision of what that is is left up to the GM's as it should be. I believe the reason it takes them a long time to respond is because you have the same GM's working on several shards, and I'm sure not every page they get is for swearing, etc. So it just takes them some time to deal with everyones pages, the ones the feel are not a problem they need to deal with they give the canned "This is not a problem a GM can help you with." and the other pages get there appropriate response.

As far as where I draw the line, swearing doesn't bother me, I try to only page if I have a game mechanics problem, or if I see an (99% sure) exploit happening. The rest doesn't effect me so why bother.

Do you realize how juvinile it sounds to complain about "tattle tales?"
The negativity of a "tattle tale" is just a parenting tool to stop children running to mom every 30 seconds with some trivial complaint.
In the Grown Up world, tattling is the law. If you witness something illegal and don't report it, you can be held accountable as an accessory to the action.

I would like to think the target demographic for UO was above the age of 10.

If I see someone using bad language, I simply ignore it.
If I see someone scripting, you can bet your pippy I'm paging on it.
Ignoring it sure isn't going to make it stop.

Not that paging seems to be doing any better, but at least TRY.

Well the argument that paging for trivial things "ties up GM time" is rediculous, since they CHOSE which pages get put into que, so they can simply leave a trivial page floating in limbo all week if they want to.

And more importantly, UO Does Not Have GMs Any More.
EA/M simply redirects GMs from other areas to work on UO for short stays several times a week.

I don't page GM's on people anymore. I used to page for scripting/unattended macroing, but it's pretty obvious GM's have better things to do (such as playing WoW, or picking their noses). So now I only page when it's very blatant scripting/macroing. I'm not to page on some guy who's sitting in his house in the middle of the woods trying to macro his way to GM lockpicking. But I most likely would page on the guy who's scripting to try place a house at an IDOC after someone else already beat him to placing in the same spot.

I page a gm last week for a guy insulting every female characture at brit. He was asking for every sex act possible to be performed. Vulgar and immature. Sat 6th in cue for 3 hours. Its not clogged up. Its broken.

I only page for :

- luring trains of spawn on purpose , with no intend to kill anything themselfs , except for getting spawn and casting invis once they're near me.

- name calling

- scripting (but only people who i really don't like)

Isn't the issue more with the person being tattled on then the tattler? If people weren't breaking the rules, the tattlers wouldn't be clogging up the GM queue.

People who pretend to be tattlers who page on people for doing things that don't violate the rules, however, should stop clogging up the GM queues needlessly.

an even worse example is when someone was spamming a cheat/exploit website and personally attacking developers at brit for over an hour before he was removed.

QFT. GM support is so sorely lacking that if it were not so sad it would be funny.

Yeah i often get the impression that i'm talking to a robot.

I bet there are no gm's anymore at all...that they're just using some sort of answering machine that says 'we're looking into this issue'.

One of my friends paged a gm for a large stone that sticking through her stairs that is blocking people to walk up her stairs...it's only visible in Kingdom Reborn , not in 2D.

The problem still isn't solved...

Ten plus years of UO, I've paged a GM three times. First time for getting stuck in a friends house, (before the leave house option) The GM just called all his friends to come and laugh at me. The second time when I d-clicked a keyring at Moonglow bank, and it dumped over a thousand keys into my pack. He just called all his friends to come laugh at me.. again. The third time when I managed to fall off my boat and got stuck in the ocean. Never saw him.. but I'm sure he laughed at me.

Seriously, I could care less what other people are doing that's illegal. Send in bug reports when you find them and let QA do their job. This crap about turning people in is childish. What GMs there are left have enough to do helping people with legitimate problems, without wasting thier time dealing with people pointing fingers.

I don't have one.

Every GM anyone here even knows the name of is also GMing other games. Kind of hard to be in 2 places at once. ;)

Given your status, maybe you can prove me wrong. I would love to be proven wrong on this, but I really doubt its possible.
Name just One GM who is assigned specifically to UO.

LOL, I love that you think its ok to cheat as long as it is stuff that YOU do.

A funny note about AFK skill gain... At a player meet up in Sacramento a few years ago we all were discussing AFK skill gain and to a person we had all done it at one time or another. These weren't hard core PvPers either... Some of the most honorable and trustworthy goody two shoes you'd ever have the pleasure to play along side.

What that said to me was that skill gain was WAAAAAY too slow.

I think what the proplem is the system is broken and the gms are not yaking a hardline on anything and people get away with mundane exploits (like breaking into doors privatized to freinds and above bye using a exploit) and knowing a gm wont do anything to a response to there remark of page a gm rather then controlling there guildie or even admiting what they did was wrong to the absurd like using a exploit to make a house so laggy and automatically have everything on youre screen you client crash half the time you recall into youre house. Something clearly the gms should have at least came and invistigated.

I had someone page on me the other day when I was chopping wood. I think the guy actually called on me when I was doing quests in Heartwood but the page didn't catch up until I was chopping wood.
I thought, what a waste of time. The guy could have just spoken to me.
I think he sits at Heartwood all day with one packy and just watches for who he thinks is scripting. He doesn't bother to talk at all so to me its very annoying.
I've never paged on anyone and I don't see why this guy bothered wasting a GM's time on me. I was there the whole time.

I paged once early on (pre trammel), using the harrassment option, because somebody was simulating a system message that he had stolen from people to get them to attack him and get guardwacked. There were bodies all around Brit bank. I got a snotty email warning for inappropriate use of the harrassment option. I haven't paged on anybody since.

Do you have any idea how many laws there are? What do you think would happen to the economy if everyone of them was rigorously enforced? Do you call 911 when you see somebody drop a gum wrapper? Surely there has to be some perspective here.
