When you get something metal and you decide to enhance it with valorite (and you know you are going to use valorite), there is a little box you can check in the crafting menu that allows you to add the color or not.

You can enhance with valorite or any other metal (you know you are going to use valorite) without changing the original color so that every shield on the shard isn't blue.
