So frustrated, so sad, so....grrrrr......

EA/ Mythic organise a superb event thread, from Moonglow, through Andrew, The royal council murders, Melissa......

They manage to get loads of folks back to the game, and the event was great fun, perfect even.

Everyone seems excited by the event, and looking forward to the next phase.

Then.....NOTHING......Just weeks of camping Melissa,

No news, no updates, no taking the event forward.

Promised Live event pre pub 54 to track down murderers??

Promised 'Choose sides' faction battles, rewards??

Promised exciting event continuation??

Why oh why do they do this, they get a really superb event, and let it go stale, let all the folk that have come back after hearing how great the events are leave, go back to, or start another game due to lack of events.

Im so sorry, I seem to be posting doom n gloom , but, it just seems so.......silly, to have a great event and then forget to carry it on.

I appreciate that EA/ Mythic want to give everyone a chance, but surely 2-3 weeks is plenty time for everyone who wants a go to have had a go. And if they havent, well, more fool them, they have had plenty of chance.

All Ive seen is many folks making SEVERAL temp/ trial accounts, going thru as 'Young' status and farming cloaks, 25k tickets etc....

Please, PLEASE, get this event moving again, get it back on track, and get everyone who did return BACK AGAIN, so we can have the same sort of fun we had during the first week of The Royal Murders event thread.

Please......

I'm starting to think they are a little bit like me.

I'm Lazy and I hardly complete anything. Usually I get started, and maybe get half way, have a bit of a breather, and lose interest.

You should see all of my "current projects" :)

I should so get a job at EA Mythic with my impressive (incomplete) project line-up.

I think the reason its taking so long for the story line to advance is some of the Dev. team is in Japan. I wish they would stop the Melissa spawn and the Casca quest so people would stop farming the hell out of Tickets and Crimsons.

I'd be absolutely ticked off if I had turned in a seahorse for a 25k ticket.

A seahorse is a rare drop, only 1 in about 30 chance of a seahorse or anchor to drop when an ancient net is thrown and leviathon killed.

Risk vs reward? What is easier, to hunt hunt hunt to get yourself 30 ancient mibs (after opening some 300 regular sos), pull those mibs up to get ancient net, then toss that ancient net to kill a leviathon (not exactly an easy monster to kill) ... rinse and repeat for 30 times! ... or ... you can just create a newbie char and get yourself a 25k ticket in 5 minutes doing a quest. According to EA, both of those actions are worth 25k points each.

Someone can farm 1 newbie temp account for 125 25k tickets a week. The equivalent in seahorses/anchors would be 3.12 BILLION gold a week. But the farmers aren't that greedy, and there's so much competition too, they're happy to sell them at 750k each which is only 93 million a week for running newbies through the quest over and over.

Even with arties dropping at a much faster rate in doom ... which is easier getting 2 1/2 "junky" arties from doom or running 1 newbie through that quest?

Those tickets are being sold for 750k now. At doom artifact rates thats worth 300k ... that puts the value of artifacts even worse than it was before EA introduced spring cleaning, so now there's really no reason to turn in an artifacts unless you consider it worth less than 300k.

If someone could make a newbie temp account and farm 125 doom artifacts a week with it, we should ask ... WHY GO TO DOOM? The risk vs reward is so out of whack here I'd almost have to say EA did this on purpose, its hard to even unintentionally screw it up this bad.

I say that EA should allow people to get their artifacts back for how worthless they've made spring cleaning points with the quest. EA puts so much effort into designing these events and makes you wonder why, when in the end all they do is **** people off who participated. I want my arties back

Oops my bad, I considered the 25k tickets from the quest the same as a 10k doom artifact ticket. In reality it'd be more like 313 doom artifacts a week being farmed with newbie accounts.

Temp accounts come with 62.5 character slots?
25 xshardable servers, 5 characters per server = 125 tickets

125 tickets that are worth 25k each = 3,125,000 points

3,125,000 points is 312.5 doom artifacts worth of turn-ins

delete chars once a week and repeat three times before the account expires, thats 937.5 doom artifacts worth of points before the account expires ... 937.5 doom artifacts for a $1 investment to EA (which gets refunded)

The event itself was sort of fun (reading the journals, questioning the witnesses, removing traps from a criminal hideout, running from place to place, realizing FoA was back, fighting FoA for a neat cloak). It was a great evening of fun. Then it went on a bit longer than a few evenings. A lot longer. No longer still.

Once again the Koster quote:

"Players will do things that are not fun, because we the designers reward them for doing it. And then they pancake mightily. But if we reward them enough, they keep doing it. Even when we tell them to stop and go *have fun* they won't, by and large."

Humans will always try to minimize risk while maximizing reward. Risk vs reward game design doesn't work most of the time because people will do what I just said. People will do the most dull things again and again and again for a reward if it is big enough. People will avoid big rewards (Legendary Magery scrolls) if the risk is too high for them. Most games reward repetition over risk taking. Unless you limit people to doing every task only once, this will be true.

I think a better idea is reward vs fun. I have a lot more fun doing plague beast surgery for 500 points per pop than running a ghost through a dungeon for 25,000 points. However, I get a lot more points the other way. UO focuses a lot on Keeping up with the Joneses. There is also a lot of power creep. If this event had been once per account rather than once per character, it probably would have been a better balance of reward and fun. Sure some people would have made lots of temp accounts, but they would have only gotten 50k points per account rather than 250k points per shard per account.

Patience is the unspoken virtue..

When you rush things, you end up having exploits and dupes.. strangers that drop 20 of each rare gem.. not that its too late or anything..

I would have made it 1 cloak, 50k (25 and 25) points per account

Oh there's risk......

You risk making your fingers and wrist hurt pretty bad from running newbie characters to ethy fortess and logging in and out of multiple accounts almost non-stop for days! LOL.

LOL, I can't believe what I am reading......you willingly partake in an event, turn in your goods, THEN, and only then, when you see others pulling off some angle to score more points.....you cry you want arties returned.....

Well, guess what, people in hell want ice water too......

Look, I turned in stuff I didn't want or felt, was sitting for too long. I sure as hell din't turn in stuff super rare....who does that??

Then, I made a free trial account to get the remaining points I needed....BFD.
Do I give a crap about what players said?? Hell no, a little tougher than that.

Live with it, you made a choice and it's done.....or hind sight is 20/20 vision.

yeah that's how my large tower near west brit went idoc...i wasn't able to reactivate my account for a whole month...

I simply gave up after trying for a month..

My house went idoc and i lost everything.
And then i pass by IDOC houses owned by OSI...that are being IDOC for the past 4 years.
Wich upsets me...why couldn't they have saved my house?

+ i got banned from all OSI owned houses for saying that on a bulletin board owned by OSI on the Luna to Umbra road.

I kinda got bored with the event too. I was farming vanguards pretty heavily (perhaps too heavily) and eventually got bored with it. They present a somewhat interesting fight because sometimes they do things that make the fight a lot more risky.

I think I'd still be having fun doing that, but vanguards became pretty trivial when the newb accounts started raking in 25k per char. I got 25k of pts per char on my 2 accounts on 2 shards and then just gave it a rest.

That being said, I think my main reason for stopping with the event was that I didn't really need more of the rewards. I already built 2 knight suits, a scout suit and 5 sorceror suits. I already have all the deco stuff and I still have 300k pts left. Why would I bother farming more points? I've never been particularly interested in farming for items that I have no use for. I don't sell stuff to people. I just farm for stuff I need and then stop.

I'm not in any real hurry for new event content to be released, though. I can still have plenty of fun in UO without being constantly spoon-fed new content. There's still plenty of room to grow for each of my char's main suit.

Just a question about turns-in : they don't only concern quest/gift items which spawned once, there are items that can be farmed. So does it mean the NPCs will always be there and eventually after months of hunting I'll be able to get a few rewards or is it said somewhere the NPCs will be removed?
For example if I keep power crystals and stuff, will they suddenly become useless inventory cluttering crap again after a publish, or these turn-ins have been set in order to make them worth something even in long-term?

Everything will be going away in August. That includes the NPC's to turn stuff in to and the chest that you select your rewards from.

Pfff... let's remove content...
A new interrest in hunting? No, just temporary. Ok...
All the craps that needed to be cleaned = 50 pts. I'd rather trash them, thing I didn't do in the past, so why now?
All the reward worth anything require you to farm for MORE items... is that cleaning? And now they're gonna remove it?

EA's boring.

All these trial accounts must be increasing total number of subscriptions.

It is strange there is no rush to fix this exploit. LMAO

Yea, and there is no way for them to tell what 1 Real New Player, out of the 100 current players, opened the trial account to actually see what the game is like, and then actually pay for it later.

The solution was not preventing people from making alt accounts...

They simply should not allow young chars in high end dungeons.

The accounts aren't being paid for though. They're just being created, used, then cancelled, so there's no actual money being paid for them.

Little less sad now they have decided to end the Melissa thread event,

But, still sad with the ongoing hand ins.....

But, its a positive move, and maybe we can expect the next phase of the EPIC events, and see the start of the factions warfare soon:)

Yipppeeee.... Sob Sob..;)

NB:-

I for one, and have spoken with over 12 others who have the same prob-

We CAN NOT REGISTER A New trial account.

Registering the NEW EA account is no problem,

The problem comes when you try to register to UO, and go through the PAYMENT /Credit card process

You enter your details, hit go, and the page hangs for a few seconds, then a RED message 'This page is unavailable, please try again later'

It is IMPOSSIBLE to register a Trial account due to this, AND the SYSTEM also DOES still make the $1 test transaction.

But the account is NOT usable for UO, if you try again, same message, and now 2 $1 requests.

Maybe a blessing in disguise, BUT surely this is at the cost of possible NEW members to UO??

yes, I did try with my Mothers card, from her house, no cookies, no nothing, infact Ive tried from several houses, using several cards, still the same result

Come on EA- FIX your registering system please, I do actually need a KOSHER 5th account for a new shop./storage of museum artifacts

I have emailed EA, and set MANY New tickets on the support thingy, all they say is please call this number to add your card, I call, it rings and rings, then cuts off. The once it was answered the voice didnt have a clue what I was talking about

Kettle has the same artwork as a cauldron. If you saw a cauldron and a kettle sitting next to each other and you could pick one to have, you'd pick what ... the kettle. Because its rare, its more valuable.

Library collections had the chance to be incredible, a super money sink. Instead they made valorite ingots the equivalent of over 500 gold.

Is valorite worth over 500 gold? No. So nobody wants to turn in gold, only valorite, and they farm the heck out of it so it doesn't clean the economy up of gold, it just drives the need to farm valorite.

They screwed it up with library collections now they're screwing it up with spring cleaning. A seahorse is 25k points, a 5 minute running newbie through a quest is 25k points. Nobody will turn in seahorses and points are basically worthless, no reason to turn in 2 1/2 artifacts when you can just run a 5 minute quest to get the same thing.

End result is no reason to turn in anything ... but we didn't know that until after they took the valuable items then made the reward useless. Now artifacts have less value than before the cleanup (which should have been more because they are fewer now).

Next EA is going to say "oh everyone didn't get something from the cleanup rewards so we'll have everyone just log in with a million points in their bank" and when its all said and done people will be throwing them as junk on the ground because its worthless.

One day EA will say to themselves, "Everyone just loves rares!" and everyone is just going to log in with random rares ... and suddenly nothing is rare.
