unlock items from inside locked down containers? you have to now unlock the entire container in order to get an item out of it which is very dangerous if your house is public and you forget to check for "thiefs".:twak:

I try to keep stuff on display in lock down containers and sometimes I need to get an items out to show to a buyer in Luna and now have to unlock the entire container to get that one item out.:cursing:

Same problem with my keg dye tubs and full kegs I keep in a basket for my charactors. If the keg is empty, to replace it I have to unlock the entire basket now and relock it down and then set the security for the tubs once more for my co-owers to dye the kegs. I keep several tubs in the colors I wish for my potions I make.:wall:

Just like most other things in this game. People were abusing it. There were locking more items than allowed using this technique.

How can you exceed the 400 stone/125 item cap? How were people abusing something thats been around forever?
This is either a bug they need to fix or a very stupid dev member made a very stupid decision.

The solution, of course, would be to make decay apply to items in houses that are not locked down.

But I suspect that some time ago, without telling the public, they discovered that decay was not being appropriately applied to objects within houses, and that a bug in that code was what was actually causing various chests to disappear when people were certain that they had been locked down/secure/et cetera.

So without actually fixing the code properly, they've instituted another fix which, as most quick fixes are, is inconvenient.

It seems to be the same like house placing the 15 day character age limit without even considering other methods to determine the account age and status (i.e what they have already in the program, since new characters get their stat bonus really quick after creation, if the account is min. six month old).
Some band aid fix, which hurts the overall population more than the abusers.

Sad ...

To bad they can not fix this now, as its a HUGE pain in the rear to get a single item out of a locked down chest set for people to view. Specially when I am trying to put stuff in it and it gets locked in the wrong spot and I have to get it out to reset it.

Also there is the real danger of losing the container and items. You get distracted and forget - this often happens when folks move so I can see it happening when one gets an item from the container. There are also other ways to lose the stuff through no fault of the player - power/isp outage, shard crashing, crashing and not being able to log back on because the log in server is messed up.

With this change one can no longer display items for view/sale easily. The only way I can think of is to have the display containers in a room with a door/porter in an area of the house that is safe from exploits. Then secure the room, detect hidden, get the item.

Ya I may have to reset the doors to allow co-owners only and redo the display some way so that I have to unlock less to get something out.

I agree, this is a huge pita. I have a small rune library in a locked down chest and in order to change one rune I have to release the chest, change the rune, lock it down, then reset permissions on every container and book in the chest. It's ridiculous.

Ya sounds like a quick fix, that they will forget about, and wont get "re fixed" for another 6 months to a year... very bad choice IMO, but I am sure they have some reason for doing this, abuse, things vanishing, something to make them change the way the game has been forever. But yeah sounds horrible to me..

Those with huge rune library's stack the books up for now so you only have to move one thing, dye tubs I always put on top of stand up globes, they make a nice stand, then you only have to unlock and set permissions once. Just what I do anyways... but ya horrible you have to re vamp your own meathods just to work around " quick fixes " ..

This was fixed because people were able to have millions of items in their house....even small ones...why do you think some of the richer people in the game that live at Yew gate were able to store all their stuff?

All you had to do was put a container full of stuff in a locked down chest.

That automatically locked everything down...now if you unlocked the chest within the container...you could keep stuff stored forever.

To my knowledge though....if you moved stuff around...and didnt re-do the process or those items decayed...so there was item decay in houses.

But for some reason, this glitch existed.

I know because I saw it first hand.

I wander fel alot looking for IDOCS...and if a house is public but is front door locked...I would gift of life myself and kill myself and get in their house.

Well...one house east of Khaldune was using this exploit to keep bods...
He also left the bags open to anyone.

So thanks to that fellow for over 30,000 Barbed Kit small bods...I have them all on my vendors now.

Sounds like they need to look at this as well. Seems to me a way to get pass security of your home. Also I assume the bags were locked down that had the bod books in them, and their careless securiity in setting the secuirty to anyone cost them all the hard work they did in getting the bods as you were able to get bods out of the books.

As for an exploit, I and others been using this system for ages to lock items down for general public viewing, and there is a weight limit on containers, as well as a item limit. This needs to be look at and fix as it a HUGE pain to fix stuff in game when moving rune books an such!
