New Melissa quest ?????

Hi there,

Im away from comp a few days to work on my house irl and when I get back
I find +5 Fire resist Melissa cloak.
And people get 25k spring cleaning tickets in no time at all.
Whats going on anyway?

How many new quests are there?
Where to start?
Who to kill and why?

I have done some reading and it seems that I can get 2x25k points if I fulfill all the steps.

How many peeps is min to kill Melissa?
Or maybe I can be assured its so crowded that the hard part is getting looting right?

For the moment it is crowded most of the time (on most shards). Even for those who already have their tickets and cloaks, she is like Lad Mel without the hassle of getting keys or grouping/ungrouping. She even occasionally has a CC.

As to getting loot rights, you want there to be as many attackers as possible.

Loot rights go to anyone who deals a certain fraction of the damage done by the highest (3?) damaging atackers.
If there are 5 people attacking her, the highest 3 damage dealers may do 90% of the total, but if you have 20 people - it is spread around more so that the highest might only be doing 10%.

What you might have a hard time doing is getting her bar up in the first place. She despawns and respawns so you can't drag it up early, and her name is red just like the dozen EVs surrounding her. Add in the clutter of people's discarded loots and masses of imp/balron corpses and even handles doesn't help much.

As to min number to kill Melissa, that all depends on the people. I am sure some can solo her but the balron in the room can be a pain, especially since it is in ilsh and spawns as a paragon in the worst times. The min number i have seen with ease is 3, but I imagine 2 or even 1 is possible but far from easy again cause mainly of the paragon and she heals really fast when not being attacked. She can go from red lined to full health in a minute or so if not being attacked.

Word is you can no longer free Casca, and thus get your first 25k points, while a ghost.

How many times can you do the etheral fortress portion of the quest? I'm only aiming for the first ticket, because I doubt any of my chars are up to the task of getting looting rights on melissa if she's pretty well camped.

each char can do Casca's rescue once for 25k ticket. As long as you can get res down there to say "help" you will be able to finish the quest by turning in the note to Capt Ulrich at the warrior's guild, top floor.

As for Melissa, I even took crafters and charactors that were only 15 months old, and not fully trained, down there carrying exp potions, as long as the Balron was not on top of her I was able to get the 25k in pts and the cloak, but if a balron gets to close when you toss a potion you better run, or invis, or you will die and not many will res you while in the fight with Melissa.

You can get looting rights really easily. I took a couple of new (Chars I just created 15 min earlier) chars down to Melissa, armed with 40 Lesser Explosion potions. The only time I failed to get looting rights, was when the Balron decided I looked tasty and had me for dinner. I managed to get looting rights with as few as about 27 Lesser Exposion Potions, doing 9 to 15 damage each.

Another easy way to get looting rights against is to have someone tame you 5 forest/desert ostards, transfer them to you, then mount one and have the others stay. Use the one to get through the wisp dungeon to Melissa's room, then log out and back in to have the flock join you there. When Melissa shows up have the entire flock of ostards attack (5 creatures with pack instinct is a beautiful thing). I got looting rights first time, and did Melissa 3 times before losing an ostard. I was still able to get looting rights withas few as three, without doing other things to supplement damage.

how is that not exploiting game mechanics? its certainly not the intended usage of the pets joining you after logging out/in

Actually, it is the stated mechanic to keep people from losing pets that run off.

However, it's been adopted by 90%+ of the players as a means of getting non-bonded pets to places that they'd never survive to get, or to remove the need for a round trip (I think loaded animals will not do this, but empty ones will). It's stretching things a bit, I admit, but the devs I've seen comment on it when it went in weren't all that concerned.

Some people will actually use this to keep pets alive (as thy are autostabled, even if you don't have slots open) if you log out while dead. Now THAT is more likely to be looked on as an exploit.

I would assume as with all monsters you must do 1/16th of the overall damage to receive looting rights. Made an attempt to solo mellissa yesterday morning at 6 am on my archer with terrible results(OooOOOOooOooooOO).

well there is no need to do any part of the quest at the begining to get to Casca and get his note for Capt Ulrich.
All you do is get down there, get res if you die, say help for the note, recall out, go to Capt Ulrich, give him the note for your ticket.

Still its nice to do all or any part of the quest starting at the castle as there is a little surprize at each turn.
