Idea to even out the annoyance of insurance

In real life when you lose something that is insured, there is a time period before you get that item replaced, i say, anything that is insured when you die, you have to wait, say 30 minutes to get that item back, that will cure alot of the ills of insurance :)

Like removing insurance entirely, this change would only benefit big, "zerg" guilds on the field in Felucca.

Members of these guilds are considerably less likely to die, more likely to be able to do something like, carry around 2 full sets both with high-end mods, and alternate between them, etc.

Remember that UO is more item-based than it was. Making insurance less effective isn't going to cure that, it's just going to kill a player's effectiveness, which does not make for fun gameplay.

Faction skill loss, a similar concept, really sucks and I think goes on too long.

@ OP: You don't have to remove insurance. Just come to Siege. It's great.

@ Galen: This is true. But speaking about risk vs. reward. The value of GM armor doesn't compare to the value of people running uber armor (and some do). What's worse? Losing 20 GM lether suits or 1 uber suit? It's not even close. You'll have to die 40 times? 100 times? More?

People always talk about scaling insurance where more expensive armor costs more to insure. The first argument is always that it's a player driven economy and there's no way to realistically track that and implement that into insurance.

Without insurance, the tracking and implementation is already done. The cost of the armor lost is the actual cost of the armor lost.

Galen... do you even PvP?

And about character effectiveness... if by that you mean people will no longer be able to solo the top bosses in this game... then good. (even tho on siege, this is still possible and I know ppl who do it... they just risk a ton if anyone happens upon them... o wait, thank you instanced dungeons!)

Siege has no insurance and we are able to do everything and anything any other shard is. We just don't have UO set to "so easy a caveman could clobber it"

Like Trammel isn't set on cruise to newb, no push-through, no risk, item insurance, bene acts, looting rights... it's like the game has been altered to the point that if you somehow mess things up for yourself... you have to be the biggest goober/doof in the world.

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Constructive Criticism: The game could function fine with no item insurance... and if they readjusted/revisited the loot drops from monsters and crafters... they could maybe even turn this game into a well working one again. (Think getting a random peerless ingredient or two from monsters in peerless dungeons instead of just bosses for example to bring things more in line with a more fluid economy)

I loathe insurance. Always have. Your suits should stay with you without the need for money. That causes suits to drop and insurance bugs. They should wear out but ONLY at such a time when they can be replaced. I could even live with suits always dropping like they used to but not without the complete and total revisit to crafting and monster loot. The debate is always one side or another and rarely complete. Loot, crafting and insurance are all bonded together and must be changed together in order to create a workable system.

Now I'll leave the rest of this insurance thread to those who know the most about it. That being Siege players.

terrable idea insurance should stay the way it is. insurance and blessed items are one reason i still still play. if i am going to fight with good armour or weapons then they will be insured or blessed for sure.

if an orny costs 15mil i think i'd rather be able to insure it. uo is an item-based system and since the items cost a lot you must have insurance.

its a fantasy game. we make our own fantasy charcters. Indiana Jones doesn't lose his hat, Elric doesn't accidentally drop stormbringer off the side of the boat, etc. Since in this game everyone will die at some point no matter how wonderful they are getting a screaming kid who fell down the stairs or something or just losing. Immediately losing their personally tailored and customized equipment would just drive more people out of the game. I agree, go to siege. A lot of people have a lot more than money inevested in their characters persona and having their alter-ego stripped naked of all the hard-crafted dyed named unique months worked on suit would just make them say bye. Plus they aren't going to do it. Too bad for you. They aren't that stupid to have people spend years getting together their superhero outfits and then ripping them away. It wouldn't be indiana jones if he left his hat in the safe deposit box. People wouldn't by the tickets.

this is once again part of the age old war between super comptetitive bloodthirsty gamers and people who are playing an mmorpg, who may enjoy doing all manner of things besides making fighting you even steven. That's socialism. You want the wonderful stuff, work for it, don't take the other route and demand that everyone else get all their hard work and enjoyment dragged into the gutter. If someone has something super uber that nobody else can ever get, that is one thing. That is generally not the case.

You know, I had this long reply, then deleted it.....From the tone and language of your post, you wouldn't believe anything I had to say.

*shrugs, pats you on the head, sends you back to Siege*

For the rest of us who wish to sincerely debate this much-belabored point, my argument stands. To tinker with the insurance system is to favor the larger "zerg" guilds, almost by definition.

Insurance is fine. End of story. It's been argued soooo much guys.. Quit it. :bdh:

This is as ridiculous and as much as a drive-away as the previous Stat Loss duration of Factions death.

Even without reading any further I can hear Raven's :violin: already about how insurance NEEDS to go for the sake of the game...

Until UO becomes less item based, insurance should not be changed.
Insurance allows for everybody to eventually build up really good suits at least, irregardless (mostly) of playstyle.

If it were reasonable to use a GM crafted, non-runic, non-artifact suit to solo the same monsters (except a small handful at the very high-end side) that you could solo using high-end runic/artifact/looted gear... or if you could get appropriate high-end runic/artifact/looted gear almost as easy as it currently is to get GM crafted, non-runic, non-artifact gear... then insurance could be removed.

On Siege, there's the combined balancing factor of nobody starting with good suits and everybody always being at risk of PvP combat, so using that as an example for what could happen on production shards is wrong.

I'm with Gildar...
I don't like insurance, but with UO beeing so item-based, removing insurance would just cripple gameplay

I would not mind my stuff being "in bag but not equippable" for 10 mins at a time... even 5... just enough time to prevent "insta rezzing" and being back in full swing in a matter of seconds. It makes for endless battles... also would give a chance to a smaller group to take on a bigger group. (in pvp situations)

When your fighting a group that has 2-3 people just rezzing and healing people it makes for basically a never ending battle. It would almost be like faction stat loss.. but quicker and less painless. You would still have your skills, and you could equip a second suit for that time period. Sounds like a good idea to me.

But I am sure people have there reasons not to want this. You got my vote though.

Now to combine shards with a moongate... :D

I do like having insurance though.

I would even go farther and say this would be a good idea only in pvp... who wants to wait 5 mins between dieing to a mongbat.

Why is it that game changing things like this come from the PvP ... minority that ALWAYS have the LARGEST impact on the PvM Majority?

Why does the Flea on the tip of the tail on the Dog always want to wag the dog? Were it (that tiny little Flea) will see LITTLE CHANGE while the rest of the Dog sees ENORMOUS change.

It is things like this and days like this that could almost push me to accept Siege as being the Prison shard of UO and thus the ONLY place to PvP. Siege could have a total rewrite of game rules and NOT have an impact on the PvM group.

Nerf Fleas!

I dunno, the pvp minority usually has these half baked ideas on how the game should be. I think it's the only way they can "fight back" these days since everyone else moved on to other playstyles....8 years ago. LOL

Threads like this are akin to the grumpy old man sitting in his chair remembering the so called "good ol days" while yelling "Get off muh lawn!"

Just ignore them and enjoy the game. With insurance.

Its pretty simple..

Unless the game were to revert back to GM exceptional gear being the best (with very few and rare exceptions), insurance is here to stay.

Nobody wants to spend 100+ hours doing something to get 1 specific artifact quality item and then lose it in a matter of seconds due to anything from getting stealth-ganked to lag induced death.

You may notice on SP you just don't run into people outside of towns that are wearing artifacts. The few you do see are the ones nobody really cares about losing, because sooner or later that is exactly what will happen.
