This is a game right? No, this is a game on a shard where everrything is specifically designed to be more difficult right? On siege, to get things and make money you can't just go to towns and sell your goods to NPC vendors to make money. To make any sort of real money you need to use player vendors and interact with real people. That concept both strengthens the bonds of the players as well as makes items (ie museum piese etc more valuable). Valuable items are vulnerable whether your in a Guard zone or not.
What happened to you was dispicable; yet anyone that joins Siege and I mean ANYONE, should already know this shard is tough. To play the game successfully you should apply certain tactics that minimize this from happening.
1. Don't depend on guardzones to deterr thieves and murders from performing their trade.
2. Log out instead of going AFK.
3. Stay in groups of like minded people, the old numbers game it works in nature it'll work here.
4. You must be willing to lose everything. Everything is expendable.
I do sympathize with your plight that behavior is the very reason I avoided Siege for years. However, you and I chose to play here on the Hardest Shard of UO. That implies you take certain risks. I'm not defending the other guy/gal. I'm just here to point out that if this truly bothers you perhaps you should go to Trammel. That way you still enjoy the game and its in safer settings. But I do highly recommend you stop going AFK.
Enjoy the game or turn it off. Have a good day and Choose to be well, I do.
