Here is an idea for them.

Instead of a halfbaked rushed out *snickers* SA expansion designed to run only with a client no one uses, how bout pulling a rabbit out of the hat and making some money from things you already have?? or should have...

Go back to Ultima Online, Original, (no not a cry for retro shard). Create us a good looking box set, and in it, put all the Ultimas on CD, from I thru lX.
One cd could have a emulator program on it to allow em to run on Windows,
throw in the Ankh like there was in the original set, Toss in a good cloth map, (good as in material that will have more than 0/3 durability in a year :))
and perhaps some other momento.

Myself, and other vets, if not newcomers, would be willing to pay well for this. Set a price, put it in Best Buy, EBGames, Gamestop, Hastings, who cares? Make it available!! Toss in a Updated Swift CD for KR, and perhaps a CD from ML, might even accidently draw in a few new people to play as well !

Any more ideas anyone? What else would make it attractive to you other vets, and perhaps a newcomer?

Well disagreeing with your first para. I like KR minus my complaints and am looking forward to SA.

But i agree a boxed set with all you had and online cds would be fun.

Lets make the SA launch in box form with what you described.

Ya know, there actually is a box set with all the single player Ultimas on them. I own it. I don't believe EA/Mythic owns these titles tho, I could be wrong on that point tho.
The set comes with maps for all the dif. games and the instruction for each one is on a file on the cd (actually shows the original artwork that came with those games. No momentos tho which would be a nice bonus.
Actually my version has the 1-7 on one cd and the rest each have there own cd. (the latter ones were bigger games I think.)
My Idea is just to fix the 2d client make it bug free and some newer upgrades to it, INCLUDING ENHACING SIEGE PERILOUS TO ATTRACT MORE PLAYERS!!because alot of ppl actually like that shard. AND THEN ADVERTISE IT LIKE HELL AND MAKE SURE ITS IN ALL THE STORES.
This I feel will give uo a big lift.

Ah after rereading the original poster you are saying to include UO with all the other ultima games...that would be nice :).

Now that might work also ;)

Assuming of course, that SA is really coming, and will be released before the service is terminated :( It would also give an additional reason to push advertising for UO, a retro kit plus the latest client and expansion, all in one neat tidy box, with souvenirs to boot!

@Red

Since EA bought out OSI, I would assume they own all the properties of OSI.
In most business ventures I have dealt with, you buy a company AND its assets.
*shrugs*
Perhaps not tho, in this case, but I would be willing to bet EA/Mythic has the rights to em.
I saw the set you speak of, years ago, at Best Buy, but didnt have the change left after buying two printers to pick it up. Went back, both boxes were gone. Dangit!

I still say SA should come with at least Underworld 1, if not 2 as well and Martian Dreams and Savage Emprie (seeing as those games are gettin way too hard to find legally).

And would be nice, if such stuff would also be available for European customers.

Point being tho, this would be a collection that even the old vets would buy, thereby making em a bit extra money

Ultima collection - it's called the Dragon set, it runs on PC has nice box, map and the control sheets for when you need keyboard versus mouse. EA sold it for $49.95 a few years back and I have one. Inclides Akalabeth which is allegedly the prequel to it all as well.

Purchased via EBGames over the web.

Ah this brings back nostalgia... my first RPG game was Ultima Online 7 - The Black Gate, followed by Serpent Isle.

I must say, few RPG titles I played since left me with such indelible memories as what UO 7 did for me. Anyone remember the Hoe of Destruction?

If they wanted to make money they would have done thing to stop the mass excedus of players over the past 3 years. $10-$14 a month subscriptions is way better than any one time sale of anything. But, they keep adding those pay us for more housing space (this surely had to **** a lot of casual players off), buy a soulstone token, buy any previous rewards from other expansions. They are nickle and diming there remaining subscribers to death, an increase in fee when their subscriptions are highest and they are already making tons of money offf the investment, and then offer nothing better for those fee increases. Even the sales tax crap is a joke, that was just a subversive way to increase fees.

Reality check UO, only a small handful of people are really willing to pay all the extra fees, for items and housing. The rest just consider it a reason to look for something else to do.

Especially since all bandwidth costs dropped like a rock a few years back.
