Hi, forgive me but the gardening forum is *poof* gone with the rest of old stratics and I'm just getting back into UO these last couple weeks. I don't remember what potions do for what bugs/fungus/etc. How much of each potions and what types? (I've got some sick plants here, lol) Also, any tips on how to get rare colored plants?

Cheers and many thanks.

Hiya LadyArden!

Ive just started planting myself, looks like its going to be a very intensive little hobby!

The 4 potion types you need are Heal, Cure, Poison and Strength. I feel bad now, cause you gave my gardener your keg of Strength potions last night, remember?

Send me a PM, I'll help you out as much as I can :)

the potions.. strength, cure, poison and *thinks* umm... heal or refresh... the colors are orange, white, green and yellow...

poison for bugs
cure for fungus
strength for strength, like miracle gro
and i don't remember the last one..

one dose is usually enough... as you dose, watch the - change color... if red, one dose makes the - yellow... dose again and the - turns green... stop at green..

same with water...

as for rare colored plants... if you mean white or black.. those occur with cross pollination.. the cross pollinating actually affect the seeds the plants produce... and you don't know if the plant will grow white or black until you've spent a couple weeks cross pollinating and growing the new seeds...

If you mean the fire colored plants or the pink, teal or purple... those color plants are a result of growing the seeds earned from the naturalist quest.. you can find the quest giver at the scribe shop in west brit bank southeast of the tailor shop.. pink teal and purple are the result of the naturalist quest.. to get the fire colored quest, you complete the naturalist quest as instructed, but before returning to the naturalist, plant a thorn in any sandy location, jump in the hole and you'll land inside a hidden ant lion nest.. you'll need to hide from the ant lion long enough for the scribing noises to stop.. once you get the confirmation message, you're free to leave the area.. return to the naturalist and he'll give you a fire seed which grows under normal plant raising conditions...

LOL um at least you said I am a font of information and not something a bit less pleasant. Well my husband might disagree with that when I am in a pissy mood ;)

Thank you all so much for your help! That's exactly what I needed. I'd forgotten that the fire/pink/teal/purple plants came from that quest -I've done it before I think. I remember having to stop because of some invasion at the seed guy, lol. And good to know Tower of Roses is back up -it went down once and I thought it was gone for good. That's a wonderful site too. I really appreciate all the comments.

Az, lol, you're so hard to keep straight! I was happy to share the potion keg with someone who needed it; had no idea it was you! Hehe. That's okay, I'll hunt around for some potion vendors today. I found a vendor that has some of what I need already. I'm not sure I'm going to coat my roof in plants again (whew -that was intense!) but I think I do want to give a few at a time a go. I've never gotten a white or black so I'm gonna cross pollinate my little heart out this time!

Thank you all for your help! Really appreciate it! :grouphug:

Im starting with about 40. Ive got a test plant that will hit stage 8 today, and Im quite proud of myself. Put in another 12 seeds last night and will send Az to a swamp and gather some more tonight.

Looked like such a daunting hobby to start, but Im hooked.

Hi. :) I've been growing plants for years, and the most important thing to remember is to do *everything* through the Plant Care Menu that is accessed by double-clicking the plant bowl after you've filled it with dirt. Yes, this can and *should* be done *before* you add any water to the "bowl of hard dirt". The reason for caution is there's really no recovery from "squishy"... yuck! :D No way to save it then, nothing to do but empty the bowl and start over with fresh dirt.

Never at any time add more than 2 of anything, not water or any of the 4 potions.

Remember that the potions are all "Greater":

-o- Greater Poison (GP) - You'll use a ton of this if you're at all serious with your plant growing;
-o- Greater Cure (GC) - The ratio of use for this is approx 1 keg for every 4 kegs of GP;
-o- Greater Heal (GH) - If you do it right, you'll hardly ever have to worry about using this;
-o- Greater Strength (GS) - Some people swear by GS, use it every day, others (like me) have dropped off the GS bandwagon and just wing it, only using GS when plants are weakened.

As to potions, go straight for the kegs. My gardener has a pouch with a keg of each plant potion in it, and she places it in her backpack. No need for a bottle, when clicked, the Plant Care Menu right-hand buttons will take 1 dose at a time straight from the keg.

Celticmoon, the most wonderful site on UO plant growing ever put together no longer exists :sad2:, so guess you'll have to settle for the links given you by the others; as wanting as they are, they're better than nothing.

When cross-breeding, remember "Plain" always wins. Any plant of any color when crossed with a "Plain" plant of any type will yield a "Plain" seed... though it might be a totally different plant from either of its parents, it will always be "Plain".

Hope you enjoy growing plants as much as I have over the years.

Be well - Pax

Oh, bugger! I had a bowl last night, said the dirt was sopping wet...I didnt think about it, but there really is no way to "dry" out the dirt...oh well, one for the trash heap!

Did you check both your paperdoll *and* your right-click-on-your-character menus? The older quests listing only shows when you right-click on your character.

Be well - Pax
