I think I found a possible cheater/exploiter

However this one is a little weird so that's why I am here asking.

Like everyone else I have been doing the event and loving it!

So I am running around on sis's thief detecting and looting the hidden boxes, crates and chests.
Well there's this other thief and they're TICKING me off.
They run around in stealth - no biggie there.
They reveal the hidden chests- that's okay too.
Then they don't open or loot them - WTH?

That's the part that's ticking me off. Because if anyone else tries to open those chests you get the message: "YOU DID NOT DISCOVER THIS CHEST!"

I wonder if they have a cheat that allows them to scan the contents of the chest without opening.

From my knowledge in coding; in theory it is possible to write such a script. The catch is the spaghetti code.

So what the heck am I seeing?

Whether they scan the contents or open the chest is irrelevant. Which I really doubt. Because of packet sniffers in Diablo 1 with Wirt, online games do not have an established outcome for an event. They found the chest first, they could have opened it, the contents were created by their actions and they were created at some point in the process. They created the items with their luck stats, the items are theirs.
You can open it in like 2 mins if they don't, correct?

UO creates the content of an item at a point during a process and that outcome can not be determined in advance.

Copy an unopened item like an SoS, or a T map, or battle chicken egg, or Triton Statue to TC. When you open those items the content is determined.
That SoS or egg will not have the same stats/outcome on TC as it does on your origin shard. In some cases the time of the UO day determines the outcome.

You can open those chests if you wait a little while. I've been re-opening left behind chests if they say 14 or more items in them. I just loot the gems I need for imbuing leeches on weapons that the original finder left behind.

I haul a lot of bagged up gems out of there, and cash them in.
I still haven't opened a chest with an item that needs to be stolen yet!

I happened to find the answer about the time of loot generation.

Question PotatoLC: I would like to know when I need to put my luck ring on to get the benefit for the Riftborn purple chests in Mistas. Exactly when is the loot generated and luck checked? Is it when it is passively detected, revealed, picked, untrapped, or opened? Thanks!
Answer Parallax: Luck plays a determining factor when you actively reveal the chest, specifically when you use the Detect Hidden skill and the chest is successfully revealed.

Seems the content is determined by the first person to use Detect Hidden on the chest.

Therefore, the chests in question contents were created by that other person. The stuff is theirs to do with or not do with as they please.

So say you and I both find the same chest, both of our passive detects find the chest BUT YOUR detect actually pops it out, so it's YOUR chest, YOUR luck not mine.

Is that correct?

To answer the OP’s question. I see this all the time. The person that finds the chest, opens it. If there is no Crystal, they move on. All they are after is the big prize. I spend more time looting these chest, than I do finding my own.

The funny thing IS, If the bot IS nearby and he detects that IS something Hidden and i reveal the chest, i can wait until the bot has unlocked and disarmed the chest. After that i Pickup the stuff If useful.
A Player will recognize the time difference when use detect Hidden and the chest reveals. A player knows 99 percent ITS mine or theirs.

I don't do this part of the event. I just assumed that detect is what reveals the chest. I have no clue how to reveal the chest otherwise. I have never accidentally revealed a chest.

You have a passive with the Detect Hidden skill, that gives you a message there‘s a hidden chest in the area. Then you use the actual skill to reveal the chest.

Here's the thing - the AFK farmers and scripters have been told their paid accounts are not in jeopardy - so they fully flaunt this (if you need proof, go near Atl Luna moongate and watch Ol**** run his gate scripts 24/7 with ZERO fear of his accounts being banned). Since there is no penalty, why not? The leadership from the past has allowed this kind of playstyle to exist so everyone is exploiting it. Most of these clowns have a half dozen or more paid accounts (alongside their 50 EJ scripter accounts) and apparently that was more imporant than integreity. And here we are.

So I wouldn't bother reporting them. You're just wasting your time.
