Greetings everyone!
I guess it’s my turn to make my introduction post.
A couple weeks ago, I joined the ranks of the UO Live Team as Associate Game Designer. How did I get here? Well here goes…
I was always a game junky. In fact, I started playing video games when I was barely old enough to hold a joystick. And my first game was Pong on a Coleco. From there, I developed a fondness for adventure games such as King Quests and Gabriel Knight, and RTS games like the Settlers and Civilization. At some point, I would buy so many computer games, the local computer store owners knew me by name. Two of them even had me writing game reviews for them.
One day, my brother told me Ultima was going online and that I should check it out. I did, and OMG did I ever get hooked!!
I have been playing UO since Beta, with my main shard being Atlantic, though I have ventured on a number of other shards, including spending an entire year on LA at server birth. I had always wanted to be a Seer and signed up for the Volunteer program. Unfortunately, the program was terminated while I was going through the interview process. So I proceeded to run events as a player. Through this endeavor, I had the pleasure of meeting Soar who was the GM of the now defunct QuestMasters, a guild devoted to running player events. During his one-year UO hiatus, I ran the guild for him and we opened a few chapters of QM on other shards.
Over my 11 years of playing UO, I got to experiment the game in countless ways: I was a crafter/merchant and professional Treasure Hunter, which led me to start my own UO fansite; founded a champ spawn guild which became one of Atlantic’s main champ guild, was a DJ on UO Radio where I had the pleasure of interviewing many of the great guilds across every server, and had the honor of serving as EM to the wonderful people of Baja.
I was working on a game for Lucas Art in a Montreal-based game company when I was offered to join the UO team. Relocating to a new country, away from family and friends, and stepping down as leader of my guild was not an easy choice, but working on UO was a life long dream for me. So I made the jump and so far, it has been an amazing experience. Everyone here is very passionate about the game and working hard. And I’m definitely excited to finally be able to make my humble contribution.
