A community manager's job is to be the forward-facing voice of the team. You are welcome to give a full thumbs-up to the new CM. Personally, I see the new CM as Messena's attempt to placate the players who have been begging for quality engagement with nothing but a hype person who probably has to run every word they say through her.
Using a Wikipedia as your source is funny as it can be edited to what you want. I found 2 industry standards that better say it and I totally agree with you that our "Community Manager" is nothing more than a mouth piece trying to make "fluff" events. Why did Messana do the news letter? Why is Messana posting stuff on UO.com? Those duties are the job of the "Community Manager"

Community Managers: What They Do & How to Be a Great One

What is a Community Manager?
A community manager acts as the liaison between an organization and its audience. They act as the voice, tone, and moderator of the brand through community support, content distribution, and digital engagement to build brand presence and trust, both online and in-person.

Yeah, we won't agree on this, and that's fine. Everyone was all up in arms a couple of months back about the lack of communication between the UO team and Players. The desire was to have a more transparent view of the roadmap and health of UO moving forward. Instead, we got a token: "Look, guys, we're communicating - you can wave your pom poms again, okay." So yes, maybe the community manager is doing what they're supposed to be, but it again shows Messena as being tone-deaf to what the player base was begging for.
Only one small correction: maybe she is "tone deaf" to what a certain part of the Player Base "begs", but things like the "Halloween House Decoration Contest" are instead a much appreciated initiative from the PoV of another part of said Player Base...

Addition of the community manager is a step forward. Not perfect, but gotta take the wins where you can get them.

I *assume* the responses to some of the reported bugs in the most recent newsletter with links to official forum were related to community manager. Were these the thorough technical responses we really need? No, but it's an acknowledgment they're out there and (some) are in their queue for investigation and further updates. Again, not fully ideal but this type of communication is a vast improvement and will hopefully get better with time.

Messena as being tone-deaf to what the player base was begging for.
Some of us do not like anything the player base on the forums is begging for. Have you seen the ideas they come up with and changes they want to make.

Do you think 10% of the playerbase has even been to the forums? 90% don't care what is being begged for. they just want to play UO. They do not care about the drama, they are avoiding drama.

Does anyone else remember the "rings" of websites that used to exist back in the early internet days?
Oh yeah, remember when Yahoo was a search engine? Rings were popular because search engines ranked sites that other sites linked to higher. I guess eventually search engines got less dumb and the rings stopped making sense.
