I have helped a few players build theirs, but I have never owned one until a few hours ago.
Here are the beginning stats on it.

When you want a Bane to be AI/Chiv, you are going to have to make sacrifices somewhere.
Whether that be in Regens or Resists.
You want to make the base pet just like you would any pet.
I put this pet in the planner and chose my base build.
I am going to put my money where my mouth is and go with a resist pattern that I advertise as the best for a pet. Since 95% or more ????? HP Mobs do not have significant damage in cold or poison damage; I am not going to add poison or cold resist. That allows me to get a great build. I have Fire Steeds that I use at Peerless which no added poison or cold Resist.
My sacrifices from a Max build is 17 HP Regen, Not a lot of added mana, and the cold and poison resists.
Here will be the finished Product:

I am able to get the Crazy mage to myself right now. Here is my mage killing party. My 2 archers will kill the mage when I have used it for my gains. My Archer Bard is running resilience the whole time. The Bane actually damages the mage pretty well.
A weird thing happened while I was doing the first 50% training. My Bane kept getting poisoned and damaged; since it is not bonded I had to pay attention. When the mage died I noticed the bane was still getting poisoned and taking damage. It kept doing that until I said all stop, somehow my bane was attacking itself. On this next 50% the bane is barely getting damage from the mage and not getting poisoned often. Also the Mage is taking less damage now.
I have completed the Training of My Bane Dragon and will have a nice bonded pet in a week.
Here he is now:
Parry does not show because it is less than 100.
My Mage killing crew:
I took him to kill a Paragon Balron, then stuck him in the Stable.
