The Basics

I have read some of these forums, and I am confused about something I have read and am asking for some clarity. When you say setting stats on the animal you don't mean there is someplace on the gimp where you set them correct? I have to go out and have the animal attack things to get the stats to where I want them. Is there a way I can control this like our characters, turning them on and off? I see the same thing for magical and special abilities and the special moves, where is it located that I can select these things? I have a 1 slot beetle that I want to start training but dont know how to control what goes up or down or be able to lock it.
Thanks for the help.

Hi there.. What people are talking about is the new taming system.. You must be a tamer to control the pets you increase in this manner.. The way you start this process is use the skill Animal lore.. at the bottom of the page it brings up you will see a blue button press it and it brings up a red progress bar, once it reaches 100% this will award you 1500 points and a gump to invest in increasing states and adding skill, special move, etc. Once all of these points are invested the beetle will then be a 2 slot and ready to start the bar again. This process continues until the pet is 5 slot. Beetles get 6k points in total to make very nice 5 slot pets.. Once again you will require taming and animal lore to control most pets that have been improved in this manner.. Hope it helps .. should you have any more questions feel free to ask .. until then have a delightful day =^-^=

Thanks so much! I didn't understand that you had to get the progress bar to 100% to get the reward points and the ability for the other. For some reason I couldn't wrap my brain around it but your explanation helped me understand. I feel more confident in what I am trying to do. I didn't see anywhere where it explained it that way but it was probably just me.
It will take longer than I was thinking. I have a 1 slot and went to New Haven and trained up to 2% on Ettins and it took 1-1/2 hours, is this typical?
I noticed it took a while for a response; I assume I wasn't getting my point across correctly but you nailed it on what I needed. Sometimes it is the simple things that count most. Thanks again!

Go to the crazed mage or find a dread pirate for best gains (make sure pet is bonded)

1 slot pet with newbie tamer best trained on Ortanords : they are black Unkillable things roaming in Ter-Mur usually near edges. Find peaceful spot , lure one there and start train your pet. After 20% or so , gains will stop and you need to have another Ortanord to fight.
Or just yell in chat and ask for help to train pet. There will be people who will explain things to you and help to find crazed mage or Unbound Energy Vortex and tank those while you training your first pet.

Thanks Gwen. Crazed mage spot in shame was pretty busy this morning (Atlanta) so I will try this. Killing Ettins is just slow for gains. I hear of pets leveling up in 30 minutes? I guess the object is to find something with a lot of hit points or hard to kill but not have strong attack damage that way the battle can be continuous for a long time, right?

If you already found crazed mage - just join the crowd. First level is slower than others , especially if your pet cannot use any abilities related to spending Mana . Your pet need to be hit by that mage (direct or with AOE). But comparing to ettins gains will be way way better.
There are more mobs there in shame that give you huge gains : UEV, Diseased Blood elemental (best fought from one of islands )

I did what you suggested and just joined in and got my beetle up to 100. Now to decide what to do. I see people suggesting Explosive Goo/AI/RC and Poisoning and that is defiantly an option because it has obviously worked but I had a that thought after I read a Naja build; what about Poison Breath instead of Explosive Goo. Has anyone tried this build? Or even switched AI with FWW?
I have a Mage/Tamer with 120 adjusted Magery/EI/Animal Taming/Animal Lore (Real) 115 Vet and 90 Med. 118 SDI (+50 SB), 2/7 FC/FCR, 25 MR, 65 Def. Do you think I could solo some bosses and which ones? Thx!

It would depend how you work the synergy between tame and beetle or any pet. If you are looking to debut the enemy with RC, that should be the main focus, especially if you have real 120 imagery and real 120 Eva, since then you can use Deathly with a slayer book when possible for some massive deathly damage, since all resists of the enemy will be cut down by 50% for 3-4 seconds. Then the problem will be that you will need to heal the pet and you cannot do that while DR is on. Still the RC is useful in teams rebuffing the enemy every few seconds. If you add a bunch of other skills to the beetle, the DR will fire much less. Other options are RC/AP with AP giving one more additional debut. You can add an AOE with FWW for huge use of training points and the damage will be similar to AI and ALL physical. People are questioning Poisoning skill or not : again depends what you want to do. Copy to TC1, and try different options.
People are debating correctly that Blue beetle can be used more effectively, since you can use as a large store out in the field.
Lots of options, but try them on the TC1 before you make up your mind since training beetles tends to be time consuming. GL you you.

I get what you saying about the synergy. Your right, there can be many different combinations but it all depends on the task at hand. I get caught up in thinking about it and not doing anything. I haven't really played around on TC yet, the one time I did it seemed overwhelming. Is there a good guide out there you can point be too. Thanks for responding and your ideas Mihali

Not sure about a guide for TC1 but if you type help there is a lot of in game info that pops up. All you have to do is Xfer your character there and all your pets will be in the stables. You can also get your macros copied there if Im not mistaken. Glad to be of any help.

What spec is the unicorn? Chiv/AI? I like the poison immunity, but I tought only female characters can ride them. Is there a way that male character can ride them nowdays? Ty for info.

Wrestling mastery and dragon breath
Awesome : So a pet that can Tank, fire some breaths, but give you a chance to blast the encounter with your character. Makes sense. I will try using A 127 wres Triton scrollled 115-110 otherwise, with Disco 120 + CB with my Deathray tamer with slayer books and see how it works. Healing is only 115 but works. Triton is decent tank. I want to take him against the Tyranosaurus Rex and see what happens. Ty for info.
Its just sad than I cannot ride the unicorns, and there is no way to do that.

Gwen, Thanks for the help. I have worked my beetle up to 4th and noticed that the skills Wrestling, Tactics, and RS is not going up at all. Anat., Med. and Focus have all gone up. Did I do or am doing something wrong? I am about to Raise my base damage, and chose RC, AI and possible Poison (because I can) does this sound correct? Thx for your help.

For Wrest and Tact you have to fight monsters within 25 skillpoints of yours to gain.
Train RS in Haven on the specters

I think people get confused on pet training vs raising skill
