No... wasting your time in my opinion. I love UO, I still play 'production' shards but all of those that I once enjoyed playing alongside have long gone. I play alone for the most part but help in group activities where I can but the whole 'me, me, me' attitude kills a large part of that.
This is what I found before, but if I can get a group of a few other people that want to start fresh (No gold or suits and ****) to just goof off 3 hours a week at the same time and consistently... I might come back. No point in playing an MMO alone IMO.
ATL still has housing spots and you can find a Max storage plot if you look enough. There are a couple of regularly active bigger guild on ATL. I am in KOOL, there are usually people in Discord and usually something going on. If PvP is more your style, there are also a couple bigger PvP guilds here. As for the Drama, Yup it's here, but do yourself a favor and do not hang in Global chat, it attracts all the "board Warriors" that died on the field and insist on proving how "Godly" they are at PvP. It ends up sounding like a bunch of 12 year olds on the playgroud, telling you all about how they will F*** your Mom.
Yea, but I don't like the clique-ness and they are usually full on housing. There's also very little accountability. I've never liked the idea of free shards.
Being handed stuff isn't fun. I'd rather have people to play with at the starting level. Going back on a grand adventure to kill a lich that keeps looting corpses. Or going down into Blood Dungeon for a balron kill and getting wiped when a paragon spawns.
That can be true for some of them, but there are good ones out there. Like I said, you have to find one that suits you. If competing for housing isn't your thing than find one that isn't full. I can't help you much here. All I can say is that the official shards here are probably not what you are looking for but I don't really know exactly what you are looking for. If you want friends, best to just get in game and find some.
I don't think I'll ever join a free shard. Just to be up front about it.
Well, then you know what you are going to get and that's all well and good. If you think the devs here are one day going to change, you are probably going to be disappointed. If it's just people to play with that you are looking for, I recommend maybe DMing some people you like and seeing if they want to play.

Is uw boss loot better than roof ?
No, the weight of the legendaries is identical. RNG.
Same quality, but UW only need one set of keys. Can be activated every 30 min. And all other don't need to do rooms/quests. The more people the more loot. So I'd say loot is better in UW. Gargish loot is junk only. Artifacts are useless.
What is UW?
Underwater. I'd agree with the others on loot quality. The difference is the work required to actually "summon" the bosses; the UW boss has a 30min reset timer (in which one person can work to get the keys) compared to the roof where everyone has to complete 5 rooms and I'd say takes at least 30min. They kind of made the roof a "team" thing because it's hard for 1 char to run through all the rooms quickly (fountain alone can take 15-20min for 1 person due to spawn rate). The trade off though is the added chance at pulling a cameo which is one of the most sought out dexer pieces in the game.
Much more fun to go with a group and do the Captains. 1 to 3 drops per captain when you are in a group. Also have that one guy that likes to drag stuff.
I liked to grind the liches and gold elementals. Also the Balron. And I would use the stable to tame greater dragons.
UO has changed a lot since you played. Even tho many here kick and scream that the devs do nothing.

They could have just spent a day on each shard and banned the scripters i know the one we had on pac was very obvious...
But be careful who is invited in your group . Some players fight skills are more hazardous to you than the spawn .
I believe he's talking about the monster spawn that solo/returning players can do. The gold elementals by the liches, for example. I would gather a pile of gold and run a miner in to smelt and turn in the gold bars for cleanup points. Does Atlantic have the whole blackthorns populated and not just the invasions?
Events like BT are more rewarding if you gather bigger crowd. You will get drops way faster.
