The last few days Stratics has starting allowing annoying advert pops up, whats going on, WHY are these appearing and how so I stop it

annoying pop ups?

good im not the only one, i keep getting this really annoying white bar popping up on the bottom of my screen when ever i come here

Cuz we are not using adblock. So those who don't have it get more and more annoying ads. Finally we install adblock. Then admins start thinking : why more and more oir users are doing this?
i don't get any popups but i modified the 'hosts' file on my laptop. best solution ever.
in simple terms, the hosts file tells the pc where to find a website. it can block your pc from accessing advertising websites.
the 'hosts' file can be found on your pc in the windows\system32\drivers\etc directory.
it's a text file that you can open and read using notepad. don't use Word on this file because Word will insert formatting garbage.

- start by downloading the 'hosts' file from: Blocking Unwanted Connections with a Hosts File. the 'hosts' file on this website has over 10,000 advertiser sites contained within it.
- as administrator, backup the existing 'hosts' file by renaming it to something like 'hosts.original'.
- last, copy the downloaded 'hosts' file to the windows\system32\drivers\etc directory and make sure it is named 'hosts'.
benefits:
- works with most browsers (firefox, internet explorer, edge, chrome).
- speeds up your web surfing (because your pc never goes out to the internet to the advertiser's website).
- no more targeted ads.
- helps prevent installation of some spyware, ransomeware, and browser hijackers but not all of them.
- as with all websites, stratics probably generates revenue from advertisers.
- certain links, like those from google ads, will not work, telling you the website can't be found. if the word AD prefaces the website address in your google search results, you won't be able to click through to the site. the workaround is to manually type in the website address in the URL search field.

The pop ups I get r all porn sites.
Ya they are there but at the top of the screen. I still can see the forum. I also use UBlockOrigin. Perfect program for UO Fans.

This has started to affect many users if not all, so something must have changed within STRATICS. This is not something that has changed on individual computers.......;

I don’t think it’s an issue with the site itself, because I haven’t seen any ads here in years including now, regardless of using a phone or computer. I don’t have an adblocker either which means it must be the Stratics Pro doing it. Staff have the same level Pro as everyone else so it should theoretically be working fine for those who have it. Maybe clearing the cookies is needed for it to register correctly or something.
The ads themselves can’t be chosen by the site, as far as I know we can block specific ads but ultimately Google Adsense puts them there and decides what format they come in.

Ive tried some abblocking browsers but they would often crash.
all i know is ads have been popping up here on stratics recently, not on other sites i used. i now have an adblocker to block ads here on stratics, something somewhere happened for this to occur for multiple people. it only occurred on stratics for me.
It is Google for sure, it’s just really unfortunate. I wonder if there are options available for how the ads are displayed. Maybe there’s a less obnoxious alternative.

My problem with the adds started when Google Chrome forced and update. I have tried all of the Chrome internal popup blocking and added one as an extension. Nothing seems to keep them from popping up. These ads are annoying because you have to minimize them to continue reading at the bottom of the page. and if you happen to miss the arrow to minimize it, yep, you guessed it, you get a new page to contend with. Also after you minimize it it shows back up with each new page. So, if you happen to want to read a thread with 5 pages, you have to minimize the add 5 times. Switch to a different thread and you start all over. It is really a pain in the ass. Though it has been stated multiple times that this is not a Stratics issue, I ask why is it only experienced on Stratics with Stratics users?
The new google ads are very intrusive. It's the same everywhere on the net, on mobile phone , desktop etc.

So who are these coming from Chrome or Stratics because I do not get them anywhere else only Stratics.
Did you not see where I tried to use adblock, etc and it did not work or did you just ignore 85% of all the replies?
I was just sharing my information in hopes that we could find a pattern and fix this 'problem'
I believe you said you use Chrome? And @Lex Darion remarked these are Google-related.
Might I suggest change to Firefox since it does sound like Google somehow roached Chrome. I have 2 add-ons on my FF ... AdBlock Plus and one for use on YouTube (name escapes me). I have no ads.
I for one do not think changing the web browser I have used for many years to fix an issue with a single website is at all productive. This is obviously an issue with either the Host, the Host Software or both. If you'll notice there is not one single person mentioning that this is happening to them on any other site. Occam's Razor does seem to apply here. Just sayin'.
