What's the story with the Palomino?

Was kind of aware of these but never paid much attention to them, with time on my hands I thought I'd tame one up and bond one. Did a bit of google-fu to get some info on them, other than the fact they exist there is no other info.

Someone went out of their way to create a unique model and animation for a horse that people rarely see or use. The model and animation as 2D artwork goes is pretty good in my opinion, the 'galloping' animation in particular is pretty slick. Very surprised it was not used for other horse types, seems a bit of a waste.

Anyone know when it appeared, why it appeared and why the artwork is given so little attention and has not been re-used? Maybe it was an event I missed at some point, just interested and time to burn, that's all.

They've been around for years, I think 3-4 years, I know they appeared in one of the publishes and I think they are found in Eodon somewhere, on Europa Piper's Magincia pet stall usually has stock of them at a reasonable price. No idea why they didn't use the animation on other horses, maybe they wanted to keep these ones special, who knows?!

They came out with publish 97. They look nice but they are just a horse.
Find them in T2A like you find Ostards. Also just like a horse.
The old fashioned horse is just more popular.

I saw one in Delucia last week while getting my daily .1 tame gain from bulls and tamed it. They do look cool but not worth training up ( think they are max 3-slot) but I will give to an alt craft char to pimp around town.

This is exactly it, as others have said to, it's just another horse. I just can't understand why it came in to existence with it's very own art and animation, it appeared at a seemingly random time in a seemingly random location not remotely attached to any event or specific content patch. And someone clearly put time and effort in to it. Baffles me.

I try to picture the scene in the Devs dungeon (if thats what they call it).

Dev1: What's that you're doing?
Dev2: Making a horse.
Dev1: Oh, cool, looks good, what content patch is that for?
Dev2: None, just felt like making a horse.
Dev1: Are you not supposed to be working on that bug list?
Dev2: Well, yeah... But I fancied making a horse.
Dev1: Are you going to make it a reward or some super rare spawn?
Dev2: Naaa, just going to put it in a field.
Dev1: Are you responsible for that Blood Fox too?
Dev2: Umm, yeah... I'll get to that bug list soon.

The artists did the palomino, not the devs. Artists have nothing to do with the backlog of bugs...unless it's a strictly art-related "bug" (like players don't like the perspective).

I knew that, was just making light of the teams processes. In every organisation I've ever worked with personnel are generally tasked from the lead, even an artist. If I were the lead, I would be hiring/tasking the artist to do things pertaining to the current/future patch or event not some random horse that is neither required or fits any narrative.

I mean, if the artist is permanent (I suspect not) and they have some spare time, they could put their time into fixing a lot of the art work which people complain about often, item perspective being one. Heres a better one, rather than design a new horse how about spending time designing armour for the existing horse which many have requested often! I believe there are many things that the community could put an artist to task with, a new random horse is not one.

The new artist was at the 20th Anniversary party and is still there now so I don't think she is temporary....she does (usually) a much better job than the last one we had.

Instead, we are getting sets of furnishings to buy... that again no one asked for but those I get they need to make some cash. Still, the Hiryu in the EC is one of the ugliest things in the game. Ranks right up there with the square cake... The worst things are some of the lovely art in Blackthorns edition stuff that is completely unusable because they don't sit properly in the tiles, like how you can't put chairs around the tables. But who would want to do that?

I do not care why it was created. I like it so. Thank you for the Palomino art lady. You can make your characater look like it belongs in Toy Story riding it. It is nice thing, unexpected but still nice.

I know it is an abomination without its other two legs. I feel bad for it. But the Hiryu looks like some sort of plucked turkey in the EC ... no feathers it looks HORRIBLE and nothing at all like the CC.

OMG.. i scare to think what Phoenix looks likes in EC.. (oops didn't mean to open that can of worms) The blue beetle really looks a la cucaracha in EC.

EC pheonix looks like a turkey. Well actually there are turkeys already, so maybe a pheasant?

I like the EC swampy, and that art with the banes is way cooler IMO, because they look like they belong fighting stuff. The hiryu is a biiiig NO, however. Esp considering how cool the hues look on the CC hiryus. White wyrm art is cool, but tiny. Serpentine art is cool but huuuge

The vet reward tarantuala is the worst. Takes up half the screen in 2d yet in your pack is like the size of a bracelet. I don't ride it because its so bulky I can't put things on the ground or get into my chests half the time. Spider in the way.

When I was hoping for a ridable spider I was thinking more along the lines of something like one of the spiders in-game... like the Sentinal spider... not that hideously ridiculous looking thing.

He hastily backtracked and found himself in a different mausoleum--this one with an entrance to a strange cave. With no safe passage back to Vesper, he reluctantly followed the cave.

He emerged in a strange, hilly land, Wendell close behind him.

They walked and walked, occasionally running from beasts or monsters. Finally they came upon a creek, and Reebdoog stopped for a drink. As he leaned over with cupped hands to scoop up some water, a greater strength and greater heal potion fell out of his pocket.

Wendell, just downstream, drank both.

Perhaps there was something more to the water than met the eye. Perhaps it was magic. As Reebdoog watched in amazed horror, Wendell began to transform, his brown coat shifting to a pale gold the color of diluted heal potion, and his muscles gaining a definition they had never before had.

Wendell looked at Reebdoog.

Reebdoog dropped the water and ran.

The reptalon is the worst example of EC artwork gone wrong





I mean they made the dracula looking bat dog look like a booger with wings. I love the 2d artwork for it but whoever did the EC artwork must not have even looked at the 2d for a idea of what it should resemble.
