Carpet questions

Wanted to add a few new carpets to my place and forgot...you can't just place things on top of them (great design... )

Is there a trick to make whatever you're dragging to drop to your feet? Seems like it would be the only way to get deco on top of the damn carpet.

Never really had issue but when I do that works

I just pull the carpet up and place the item then raise the item up and then replace the carpet and drop it back down. It is annoying
