Exploring the Deep and Terort Skitas ...

So, I’m trying to complete the Exploring the Deep quest but I keep hitting a wall (literally) in Terort Skitas.

On Great Lakes (don’t know if it’s this way on other shards), there are stone walls blocking the way to the second set of stairs fro level 2 to level 3.

Am I missing something here? How do I get past them?

There is one way that is blocked, you have to teleport over it if you are a mage. If not there is another way around to that same area. This will help you navigate it UO Stratics - Grand Sosarian Atlas - Terort Skitas

Better check with your EM, they may have block access there for an upcoming event.

I was talking about the area where the rocks have slid into the walkway. Where the red X is on this map

Yup. Those are not normally there.

My memory of the confusing geography of that dungeon is scant but would it help you if you started from the top (from the Tower of Knowledge itself) as this guide recommends?

you do not need to go in that blocked room anyway to complete the quest just use the stairs (circled in red) to go down one level

We were down in that dungeon recently on a EM Event @Jennifer-Marie... that's why that's blocked should unblock soon but yeah... use the stairs there.

-- The whole point was that I was doing this quest on my sampire - not a mage. Since three of the "reagents" you need to find are located on the third level and you need the East Stairs to get down to that side - unless you're a mage and can cast teleport over the blocked part of the passage on the third level.

And the bottom line is: when EMs alter game content for an event, they should be diligent about cleaning up their alterations as soon as possible so that people can actually access normal game content. This is the third time I've been down in Terort Skitas in as many weeks for different reasons. So whatever EM Event was done that caused these walls to exist was at least four weeks ago. I've already submitted a bug report and posted on the official forums.

People shouldn't have to find "work arounds" to do actual game content because the EMs can't clean up their messes.

My main character is an elf... so no way he can cast that.

Except that he can, from scroll.

Teleport: 3rd level spell.
Teleport from scroll: casting difficulty is as 1st level spell.
First level spell at 0 magery: 45% success chance, and failure does not consume the scroll.

My elf uses scrolls to get on Islands.

I used to carry one all the time on Malag because there was a hole where you would get trapped in when doing the Styngian Dragon... and it would take me 20 or more attempts to get it to cast usually by then I'd have died and had to have someone nearby cast Noble Sacrifice and yeah wasn't worth it.

For your info this same pile of rocks has been there since before the Haloween event and yep it was a pain getting cornered there with some mobs or jumping over them to kill other mobs, but we all felt it was there as intended, as an extra challenge. Not something forgotten there. Made us up go up the stairs and down the other side or teleport across it.

OP is not talking about the rockslide that was always in the dungeon. There are EM made walls on that shard. Another confirmed there was an event. Look at the pics she posted.

Just another example of how out of touch the devs/EMs are with the playerbase.

At not inconsiderable risk to myself I just ran through this dungeon.

As near as I can tell it's clear now.

I've noticed that fairly often those setups are timed and do not pose a permanent obstacle to regular gameplay -- on those rare circumstances where they pose such an obstacle at all.
