Hidden boxes.

How do you get the hidden boxes? By "detect hidden" skill to detect the boxes to begin with and lalso ockpicking skill to unlock them? Or do you also need to have the thievery skill as well? Are the boxes at random locations in Khaldoun also? Or clustered in special spots?

Run/stealth around with passive detect hidden, text comes up when you are close, then actually use detect hidden to reveal it.
Then use lockpicking, then use telekenisis (or remove trap - which is still broken and would be so perfect if it were working right now - Kyronix!!!).

The boxes are randomly all over Khaldun, twice now, I have revealed 2 at once close to each other.
You don't need thievery, but there are special Relic rewards that I've not seen yet, that do require stealing from the chest, but chances are you won't see that.
I've found quite a few of the cult drops so far.
Also old trade quest items, and scrappers ingredients.
By the way, I play it in Felucca, where I swear the Cult drops are higher.
Some people may find this playstyle boring, I absolutely love it, and could take the rest of the year off work to play this...

Is the "detect hidden" skill hard to raise? Do you buy say up to 40 from some NPC? How high does it need to be to work on the hidden boxes in Khaldoun? How do you train it? Also how do you use it? You need to "cast something" or "use skill" like animal lore etc? Or just walk around and a message will happen about something hidden in area?
Also does the magic spell "reveal" work to detect these boxes?

I can't say how it is for others, I do everything the hardest way possible
It seemed pretty long and hard to me.
I trained it up with Lockpicking.
I trained them both, by marking all the chests I could recall to, and put them in level order, then I just recalled around them non-stop, detect hiding on chests, lockpick, remove trap.
It's a long long process that way, I'm sure there are better, but as I said, I enjoy the playstyle.

Gathering 50 relics just from hidden chests would have taken a long time.
I think it could easily be done within a 2 day binge.
(Maybe even one day, say 10 hours).
Some players are just that motivated to be the first to achieve something.
I personally expect to be able to claim rewards by the time the event starts, and I'm not really even trying.
Work, family, fitness, don't play so much even, tired all the time.
On at 6 am off at midnight. There are players who love this stuff.
They could have had points from last year. If not, yeah. I've gotten like 3 so far from chests, but then again I didn't spend much time doing it. went twice 30-45 minutes per session.
Your best tactic is to start a character with detect hidden at 50 or use an advanced character or mythic token. If those aren't options, a good place to find chests to use the skill on is at the jhelom bank, as they are static chests. You can make a UOAssist macro to check them all.
Another option is to build up tinkering, detect hidden, and remove trap all at the same. You'll have to have tinkering a bit ahead of the other two skills, at least 5.0 to 10.0 points ahead, and may have to use a tinkering talisman to start out. Make yourself 3 or 4 sets of 20 boxes each (i.e., a total of 60 or 80 boxes). For each set of twenty boxes, take all the keys and put them on a keyring that you store with the twenty boxes. Make sure your character has on a suit with high physical resist and has a way to self-heal. Be sure to take off gloves while using the remove trap skill. Prepare a good supply of bolts, iron ingots and tinkering tools.
Dart trap each of the boxes. Use detect hidden on all of the boxes. (Repeat this detect hidden step multiple times if you don't think you gained enough on a particular round.) Then remove the traps on all of the boxes. Repeat these three steps until you're finished training all three skills (tinkering, detect, and remove trap).
To take up time while waiting out the skill timer, you can work on other skills that have no timer, e.g., magery. If you plan to also work on lockpicking, make yourself other sets of twenty boxes with the keys on a keyring periodically as your tinkering skill raises, e.g., at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 tinkering skill. Those boxes will help you with lockpicking until you hit about 92.0 lockpicking. After that, you need to gain lockpicking off dungeon chests or get your character discorded by a satyr and use some of your lower-tinkering-skill locked boxes.
You can't use points from last year at the Khaldun turn in guy. They gathered all of these since 101 hit.
The Shadow Fiends in Khaldun are drawn to stealthers and will reveal them.
by any chance have you tried it?
because i went and had a try of this years chests last night on my old faction trap remover and i was pleasantly surprised to find that when i hit remove trap it removed all 3 of the traps in one shot and i didnt fail once in the hour i was doing it.
so i would say that remove trap is fixed and in time for the event much less!
only thing i still dont like is it reveals you to use it, that still sucks.

Yes, it does work in the sense that it works, it does remove traps.
(I died once, got deadly poisoned, and my magery level is not high enough to cure that, can't fit enough magery on template).
Yes - I meant the fact it reveals you. I consider that broken.

I have full ninja, but I under-utilize it tbh, it's a skill I don't use so much, and am quite unfamiliar with.
I just use it because shadow-jumping everywhere is so cool.
(and smoke-bombs).
Regarding Remove Trap revealing you - I swear it didn't used to reveal you prior to factions.
To the best of my memory, this was something that was introduced, because faction thieves removing faction traps whilst staying hidden was OP. They wanted to give players a chance to kill the thieves, before they removed all their hard earned traps.
This is how I remember it?
If this is the case - I don't see why they can't just switch a line of code back................
Now factions does not exist, and this is not the case anymore, I see no reason.
only for lower level poisons (I have 120 ninjitsu). some of those boxes down there like to dp and lp. I use unicorn and when that won't cure the poison I switch to dog/cat form or chug some cures.
Detect hidden is super easy to raise, I have it on quite a few of my toons:
Buy a trapped box and a crystal ball of knowledge.
Use detect hidden on the box while it is in your pack until it says that it is easy.
Set the box on the ground and keep moving further away from it and using DH until it is optimal.
Repeat until GM. Takes 3-4 days
It has to be GM.
Can you buy Detect Hidden? I bought a Mythic token so that I could try my hand at the boxes, and it looks like I can't choose Detect Hidden! And if I can't, what could be the possible reason? I don't run any scripts or even use UO Assist (it's supposed to be a game for God's sake), so it's hard for me to train some of these skills!

Okay, I think it's because I'm an elf!
Weak Humans have 20 Detect with JOAT but We Elves have 40 natural... as we are far more observant... the lowly Gargoyle has nothing.
Here is everything I have received from the Hidden Chests.
Make sure the character has under 200 skill points and does not have detect hidden already. For some reason with Mythic Tokens it wont let you pick skills you already have.

I did a 3 hour session myself last night, and did ok by a normal persons standards.... nothing like you though!
For awhile, I was up against 5 rogues from my own guild, which was actually quite funny, a lot of "accidents" occurred.

I'm doing well on Cult items, Scrappers ingredients, but had no paintings (not so fussed about them anyway), no relics (would love them), and I'm interested in that Blackrock Staff, is that an old Trade Route item, or something new?
Yes they are old Trade Route items however they are "different" in when you lore them they say from cultists not from the trade route or whatever it was.
The blackrock staff is new and wasnt part of the Ambush Items. As for luck. In the beginning I wasnt using luck but when I heard about the Relics, I started to. I am now running 2400 luck + whatever the bonus is for being in Fel.
Nope, on Europa they're dropping in packs when you do the champ. I'm looking forward to getting a set to go with the original ones I have
