Magery Mastery and Teleport?

SouthPaw

I've never had a pet with magery mastery. From what I've read they teleport a lot. I have recently been reminded that if/when I teleport all the mobs in the area immediately target me. Does this teleport/agro thing work the same way on pets? I want to know because I'm considering making a new pet just for soloing/duoing champ spawns and it seems like this could be a great way for the pet to draw agro.

With this in mind, I'm considering making a unicorn with magery mastery, goo, and maybe AI (or FWW if possible), or maybe just MM/Goo. The general idea being I tell it to kill something, it teleports over and all the mobs in the area target it. It's poison immune so I could stand on it to vet/cast heal, no cures needed.

Let me know if this teleport idea will work, also if there's a better pet to try this on instead of unicorn-they're a bit tight on points. Prefer something rideable though, only other I can think of is nightmare but don't want that because dragon breath and they can be poisoned.

i have a phoenix with magery mastery goo/inferno and he does use teleport. The thing is its not something he reliably casts its more of a random whenever he is feeling to lazy to walk thing. Getting him to teleport into an area to draw all the aggro sounds nice on paper and in ur head but in reality the unreliable casting of it makes this more of a perfect scenario that could potentially happen at random. Im also not sure if the teleporting into an area as a pet draws all the aggro the same as it does on a player character.

With that information in mind if ur considering this still I would recommend using goo as it can hit random enemies that are a distance from ur pet. I know with my phoenix when the goo goes off and hits a distant enemy his attention seems to be drawn towards the new enemy often walking that direction or even teleporting in some cases. I took my phoenix to the mini rat spawn in stygian abyss and he did great im sure he'd do fine on a normal spawn too. My phoenix has magery mastery and 1500 mana he does occasionally teleport but the majority of the mana is used in a constint sometimes overlapping barrage of flamestrikes.

I hope this helps some.

Thank you for the information! I was under the impression they teleport more often than that, so good to know it's not every time they attack. I'd still like to try it, definitely with Goo, possibly with FWW too. Points would be very tight if done on a unicorn.

If anyone else has experience with this please let me know. I'd also like to know what you guys think would be the best pet for a solo champ spawn. I already have a Cu with mystic, ai, and goo. Just wondering if there's something better out there. I prefer rideable pets.

Pets cast spells when they shouldn't and don't cast when they should.

They teleport when you want them to stay on the ship or island.

I put Magery Mastery/AI on a Lesser Hiryu; when its skill was low (50<) it use to teleport a lot. Now its about 90 Magery and it doesn't do any weird teleporting. Its turned out to be one of my favorite pets. On a L6 T Hunt in Ter Mur, it pretty much took out 3 greater poison elementals and 3 enraged earth elementals by itself. This has been my experience.

Did you have an area effect installed on it? Like goo also? Could it be worked in also?

*Update* For anyone interested

I put AI/Magery Mastery on a unicorn. Rarely teleports, I think I've seen it do it twice, once on a little island in Shame, and another time down the stairs at Chaos entrance. Also for pets, teleporting does NOT draw agro like a player. Magery skill is close to 90 now. I like it, the damage is good. So far I've never seen it cast magic reflect on itself. Uses flamestrike often. It didn't work out like I originally hoped, but still a fun pet.

When I have some free time, I’ll check my one mare that I put magery mastery on. Been skilling my mystic cu of late, which is currently 105.1.
If my mare is not casting protection anymore or less often, I just might keep her. Last time I used her, she did teleport often

*update* my unicorn did use magic reflection today. It didn't seem to last long, not sure if pet cancelled it or it timed out or what. Used it while fighting a sphinx.

Something about pet teleport....sometimes it is completely random where they teleport to and they get stuck. Have had a dreadspider go wild because he teleported into a tree and couldn't move. Kept telling him to follow me or to attack and forgot about the going wild thing if they can't do commands. fyi, when a dread spider with necromagery(120 necro/ss, and 110 magery) goes wild, he will then teleport to you and quickly summon a bunch of undead and kill you. Was able to peace him and tame again, but he has since teleported into a mountain wall randomly too.

This sounds interesting.. Did the Dreadsider cast undeads when you used it as a pet? Or only when it became wild and attacked you?

only when it went wild. Thing is, it didn't really seem to have a pet limit. Like it kept summoning them the whole time. Made retaming him the biggest PITA ever. Had to kite to where there was no dead bodies so that I could peace him and tame.

Very interesting..It may be due to much higher stats due to training, skilling and PS. The new spawning wild ones do not have these boosted stats.
