Or not bid at all, because a lot of times (and I am NOT saying this time), but a lot of times, the seller is just hoping for someone to make a mistake and offer a lot more than the actual value of said item.
I am going to jump on my soapbox for a moment.
Honestly, if I see "offers", most of the time I just skip it. Not always, but a good portion of the time. I have no need to make "offers" and then wait for the seller to say "well I told told it was worth "x" gold. If you have an idea of the value, put a reserve on it if you want to sell it. Or better yet, ask the person who said it was worth "x" gold if they would BUY it for that. In my opinion, setting reserves puts everybody "on the same page" and eliminates wasted time and effort. I have awesome results doing just that. Again, just my opinion.
Sure it WILL happen (rarely) that on occasion, someone actually can't place a reserve on an item. I get that. But to see the same people selling the same stuff over and over, taking "offers". Come on people, you know what it's worth.
Yes, I like a bargain as much as anyone else. I freely admit it. But I will also pay "top gold" for something I want, and have seen stuff sell for less than I would have paid in reserve, auction, or "This is what I want for this item" settings.
I will now hop OFF of my soap box.
