That is the reason I have not installed one, mine has no fancy fairings or anything like that.
There is a small toolbox tray behind some cover on the left side. But I need to check if its large enough to fit in there. At the least, it should fit the small box I will use for the fuse and relays..
It's currently a category 5... with 180 mph winds

Things are not looking good for us Floridians
Force Thirteen (on YouTube) is one of the best channels currently keeping track of Irma: Force Thirteen
I stocked up on bottled water the day before yesterday. Have gathered together important papers - insurance, bills, birth certificate, etc., and anything else essential - and will be packing a small suitcase in case it becomes necessary to leave home in a hurry. Since I live near downtown Tampa, not far from the bay and the Hillsborough river, the thought of a direct hit here is particularly worrisome.

I've decided to stay home. There isn't any such thing as a "safe place" from this storm anywhere in Florida. But my house is built of cement blocks and I'm in a minimal risk area for flooding (verified that fact today). My closest neighbors are staying, too, so I figure we can help each other out in the aftermath... and discourage any potential looters, which we couldn't do if we left our homes. The two ladies who have lived next door to me for years are great neighbors, and both have a concealed carry permit. I kind of like that.

I am expecting to lose power in the next 24 hours, not sure how long it will take to get it back on. We are expecting category 3 when it hits near us. There is an 80 mile radius around the eye that is expected to have sustained winds of 115 with gusts of up to 130.
I am hoping it loses strength before then but not looking likely. When it hits Tampa, I will start feeling it as I am only 90 miles from Tampa.

It's a about 11:40 a.m. as I write this, sitting in my friends' home in Seffner, Florida. I've been watching the updates via my laptop. If the shift north holds, We don't know if it will make much of a difference. Also don't know yet when we are likely to lose power. We're hoping Irma loses a lot of strength soon, but aren't banking on it.
My friends have two generators, so if power isn't restored soon after Irma passes, we can put those into use. I expect their house to be fairly safe since the windows have been boarded up and they are on high ground... they also have a fairly new roof.

Good evening from Tampa! I returned home this afternoon to find my house and roof intact. Even the front awning and back fence were unharmed. The entire street suffered almost no damage from the winds... mainly some fallen tree limbs that (very considerately) landed in front yards instead of on top of roofs. The power is on, both the internet and the phone service are working, and my aquarium fish survived my absence without a problem.

We are one of the few in our area with power. There are whole towns near us with nothing and it was put out that it could be a few weeks before power is restored for them.

The danger to Florida unknown though less likely to make landfall here. This one will be more on the eastern side but may miss Florida all together and hit the north-eastern part. It would need to due a major west turn to hit Florida again.
