Ultima Online question: Mondain the Wizard

I am wondering, someone has an item called "The Head of Mondain". It appears to be a quest item from WAY back. Perhaps from the original release of UO. But my internet searches say something about Mondain the Wizard dying before The Trinsic Invasion. It was the culmination of a long storyline alternatively known as the Second War of Darkness or the Revenge of the Dark Enchantress.

Does anyone know anything about this? Or what quest giver in UO would have started the quest line? Thank you.

Lorewise, Mondain perished around 290ish years before UO started; it was the act which separated the UO shards from Sosaria Prime. (This was never played out in game)

However, the EMs on several shards have brought Mondain back in one form or another - generating rares in the process. This "latest defeat" is probably where the head came from. One of the rares collectors could say when/where for certain.

Without seeing a picture. There is also the possibility that this is a head of a player that named themselves, Mondain. Years ago you could get bounties for killing murderer's listed on local bulletin boards. You could chop up their bodies and obtain "Head of [insert player's name here]".

There were Halloween heads given out a while back with players names on them, likely this is just one of those and the players had a char called Mondain.

Those were skeleton containers. The heads were dev names.

The "Skull of Mondain" is an item from Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar.

You find it in the middle of the sea, if you use it... it kills everything in the area or town you're in. Might sound like a good idea for dungeons... but it also resets all your virtues to negative levels so it could screw up your game pretty bad. It was put in game as a temptation for something to avoid doing.

In Ultima 4, the Skull could be found in the middle of three volcanoes out in the waters east of Serpent's Hold. This region would become an island where Blackthorne would build his castle in later games. Interestingly enough, Ultima Online had these same volcanoes out in the water in the early days. I found them while sailing around, but sadly they have since been removed.
