The apron and cooking talismans will help you cook exceptional quality items. Things such as the 3 tier cakes, magical fish pies, nutcrackers and especially sushi have low exceptional chances. While exceptional doesn't really add value per se, it is needed for higher end BODs, food decorator tools, and, of course, vanity.

You're not kiddin about the sushi; I just burned through several thousand fish steaks, making 725 normal rolls to get 20 exceptional. And that's with a tali that has a 13% exceptional bonus.

I was asked about this yesterday and did a spot of testing back on test center. Making Sushi rolls I had 24% chance of exceptional with my +29 excep bonus tali (copied with my character) adding the apron took this to a 50% chance. A significant difference
