Returning to UO - Siege Population?

It isn't super populated, but the few people that do play are afk farming while hidden and their pets kill stuff. Unfortunately, the heavy handed Hi-5 has pretty much forced their hand after repeated domination.

Yeah, I noticed this sub-forum was riddled with drama. I read parts of it mentioning the group.

Anyhow, when you say 'low to moderate' -- what is that in comparison to Atlantic? I'm assuming much lower in general, since I actually see 'medium' under shard population for Atlantic, and only ever see 'low' for Siege.

It's sad that this game has become so catered to carebears. And the overall low population of UO servers is spread over a ton of different ones to begin with, but then spread within those (exception being Siege) between tram and fel.

I'm paying for a month of gametime right now (still waiting for the processing to clear and my code to be emailed), as a sort of trial to gauge actual server activity.

Well, it sounds like it wouldn't be worth my time to level a character on Siege. With the time I spend on the game over the next month, I'd at least like to be able to play with other people.

Title says it all. Been about 16 years or so since I played.
Hello Hex, Welcome back to UO. A good way to learn all about the people here is just shout out in General Chat. For Mapping I suggest Tools - UOCartographer here is how to at this link . For a boat load of information try UOGuide - the Ultima Online Encyclopedia .

A Summary for Returning Players – Ultima Online a great summary of everything that has happen to date. Our EM page Ultima Online's EM Bennu: Event Moderator for Atlantic and Siege Perilous | Facebook . The guild I am with here Gilfane . And you can get more here at Ultima Online .

Thanks for the suggestion (UO Cartographer). I do have another question, although I worry about stemming too far off topic. I have no problem reposting elsewhere:

What about CC vs. EC? I'll be honest, the nostalgia for classic client isn't enough to outweigh the responsiveness of the Enhanced Client. Classic feels incredibly laggy to me. Being able to zoom out is a nice bonus as well.

My only problem here is that, although they have implemented (limited) macro'ing from within EC, it appears that none of the typical third party apps work with EC. And, I am going to go ahead and assume almost all PvP'rs are using **EDITED: NAMES OF VARIOUS 3rd PARTY APPS**. Which requires they use classic.

Is there no point in even trying to PvP using the Enhanced Client?
Wouldn't I be at a >severe< disadvantage against people who are running scripts and more effective macros?

Everyone I've talked to says that all the PvP'rs use CC (pretty much to run scripts). I feel like this isn't something they can effectively monitor. I also feel like if people were actually being punished for it the population would be significantly lower than it already appears.

So, what are the benefits (other than nostalgia) of running CC vs. EC? With the smooth response and ability to zoom out in EC, I highly doubt all the PvP'rs using CC are using it because of nostalgia.

I suppose a more direct question is: If I am not running third party apps, will I be able to compete on par with all the kids who are using them?

I'm a hardcore CC user but I've been told the EC runs faster and guides you around some things that stop your movement in CC, letting you move faster than CC users not running scripts. Don't PvP or pk so I only use CC & UOA.

I pvp and use CC but not for cheating but because somehow for me EC laggs extremely near custom houses. Also ES feels....I don't know...wrong...
Bo on the other hand says it's a lot faster than CC and it's abilities are far superior to those of the CC...

For both, Siege Perilous and CC or EC: just give it a try and see how it goes.

Yeah, I used to have to play on my dad's machine back then. I played MUDs @ the library near my house, since we didn't have internet. When I'd visit him, I'd be able to play UO. Was such a blast.
I finally relocated the area that I remember the most - the orc fort near cove. But it looks different than I remember it. And I could have sworn there were non-orc mobs on the walk from town over to the fort itself.

Yeah, coming back is nostalgic -- save for the massive nerfs to open world pvp // risk-reward.
That's why Siege seemed promising.

I PvP on CC with only UOAssist and WTFAST(Ping re-route as i play from the UK) I pvp on Siege, Atlantic and Europa, naturally im much more competitive on Europa because I ping about 20 but if you are good at the game you can happily pvp with the best of them just using UOAssist. My youtube channel of me pvping on classic this year using just Assist - Shaun O'hara
