So about this pit quest situation....

I jumped right in to the new quest, took a tamer and mystic down to the pit fightng for the Myrmidex. I killed tribesmen for 2 hours, it never ended. said wave 3 on the flag at one point then reset to wave 1, but never told me I had completed it only that front line had moved. Two hours is a BIT MUCH just to start the actual quest chain. What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Were you killing foes on the front? If I remember from the old Bane Chose/Ophidian battle, if you went beyond the front and killed creatures, it didn't help move the front. You had to push them back step by step. I don't know if that is how this one works, but just an idea.

Yeah, you have to kill them on the front lines to gain "loyalty" quicker. It does take a while though. But the Queen is even worse.. no way to kill her imo without a group of folks.

well i just tried again staying with the front line, got both flags to change but then hit 2 hour mark....still havent completed it.

Ok, after three hours roughly, on my second go, I got the Myrmidex to within sight of the Brit exit. Then a wave of tribesmen pushed the bugs all the way back to the second flag.

@Kyronix I love the new store, and I want to do this quest SOOOOO bad, but this really is unreasonable. Can you guys PLEASE look at this?

@Kyronix dunno if this is working as designed... and it will probably make @Silent Singer pull some hair out...

but...

I had completed the entire quest chain on a char.. went back later to do it again.. had to redo the whole chain.. but when I went to fight the Myrmidex in the pits others had already ran them all the way back to the furthest area. I was able to get in one flamestrike on a redlined Shaman.. and got credit for pushing them all the way back and was able to advance in the quest chain to the next parts...

OK here it goes. I'll just be blunt and to the point. I really dislike the pit encounter. I didn't find it even a little bit fun. For the sake of constructive criticism...​
  1. Too flipping long. Its long even when everyone is working the same side... When players are working against each other, its downright painful.​
  2. Players are forced to work against each other who are on different loyalty. Seriously.... we already have more than enough reason to be dysfunctional and hateful... do we really need another reason? With the time commitment involved, people get downright pissed off if someone comes in to assist the opposing forces when you have already devoted hours to this and you are almost winning. In UO there nothing sportsman about this. This entire encounter would be perfect.... if it were in fel.​
  3. The potential to grief people is very high..​
  4. If you pick a side your aoes and summons should not hit your "team"​
That's all I have for now... Don't even get me started on the pro Myrmidex quest chain. Sailing around for 4 hours to get all of the 35 random sea monsters? Please increase the spawn rare of random sea monters, or lower the kill requirement... This was just flat out silly, and yes... it took 4 hours just to kill them all. Jezzz... why does all the new content cater to the idea that we can sit here for 8 hours to complete one quest chain or encounter? I know you guys don't want everything farmed to oblivion, but please be more reasonable on the amount of time you decide is appropriate to enjoy new content.

  1. If you pick a side your aoes and summons should not hit your "team"

When I mentioned this to Kyronix,(He popped up in game when we were at the casino) he said When you throw a grenade into a bunch of people, even the good guys are gonna get hit Totally makes sense to me...he said everyone is used to just AOE'ing/area effect killing and that's just too easy so he wanted to make it more difficult. I have to agree with him on this point.


That's all I have for now... Don't even get me started on the pro Myrmidex quest chain. Sailing around for 4 hours to get all of the 35 random sea monsters?

He did increase it but not by much..I did mention that in the other thread....our fishers have been hard at work fishing up nets, it's the only way to complete the Salty Sea Quest right now and that's just not cool.

Well, I really really want to do this but even one is impossible. I had a mage with 120 magery / eval + 100 inscription with sdi 50+ and an Eodon Tribe slayer spell book.

Over two attempts I took 5 hours and never got there. And I have to do the pit JUST TO START THE QUEST CHAIN. Someone said a bug lets you run to the back and kill a shaman at the door for a quick victory. I want this to be true so bad, but last night I killed several at the door and did not get credit. Believe me, I'm going to investigate the bug, because there is NO WAY I'll be killing scores of tribesmen again as it currently stands. I know folks are bummed about increases for non us players in the new store (rightly so), but this quest has dampened my enthusiasm for the new release a lot. All this content added, all the work they put into it, and it is just sitting there unused. In my 5 hours yesterday not a single player came in to the pit. I begged people in GC but no one wants that pain.

Sad face.

@Kyronix please help!

I see this as another of those "One and Done" things. Too much time for almost every leg of this.
I see this as another game addition created by people who don't even play the game.

This is my honest belief at how it goes at a Broadsword developers workstation..

What are the rewards for the new quest? Im sure they have been posted but I can't seem to find them.

EDIT - Don't worry I found them on the UO website.

The "Moonstone Crystal" looks like it might be useful.

Do you get to pick the reward item or is it just random?

@Larisa , after 3 hours I went and bought fish nets to try and summon the required monsters. I went back to my boat and used them. The water ele and deep sea serpent I killed that was summoned first did not count towards the quest total. How are nets working for you guys?

Nope I didn't try the hooks. After the nets failed, I just assumed they wanted us to kill open water creatures only for finishing the quest.

The quest is interesting and a nice change up to some of the other typical quest lines we have seen, but it sure is a long grind. I'm not asking for an easy button so that the whole thing is only one step or anything, but taking 3+ hours just to get to the final piece of the encounter is really a long struggle. Some parts of the quest line either need to be tightened up a bit, or the final rewards need to be a bit more lucrative.

    You have to be in the right area...South Brit Sea.....if you stick close to Jhelom you're good.

Odd, I was just west of Jhelom when I tried with 5 nets. I'll try it again tonight right next to the docks and see if that does the trick. Still... 35?!?!?! grumbles

On this bug...

This is the route I take. There are PLENTY of water elementals...I managed to find enough krakens but the sea serpents and deep sea serpents are the ones that are scarce.

As long as you throw your nets around any of the 3 islands you're fine.

This is true. If you pledge allegiance and enter the pits while someone else is down there you will get credit, you don't even have to kill anything.

AH!! I see why you are having issues finding the Sea Serpents. Please review my path to completing this quest faster.. It might help you in the future.

I sailed from Jhelom along the bottom of the mainland till I got to the islands. I found kraken near Temple Isle and sea serpents close (ish) to the coast all the way along. I did take a few nets, which I shared with another quester I spotted on his boat. As long as we both hit the mobs we both got credit for them.

You should not have to "Pledge your Allegiance' each and every time you want to redo this quest, it should be ONLY if you want to switch sides.
We (2-3 people) did both boss encounters yesterday, it took a little over 6 hours to do both quests.

The corpse loot on both bosses needs a MAJOR upgrade. I didn't see anything above a "Lesser Artifact" on either of the two bosses, and it drops 12-15 items per person.
for the amount of time and effort that goes into completing these quest chains, the loot on the bosses needs to be at least comparable to a peerless or greater.

I did test this out on test, baja and origin but only the guard side. it maybe awhile before anything changes. not sure how many of us tested this out. u can do the battle solo but does take long time. the more people that do it together the faster it can go. my biggest issue is to target the right thing, wish they has different color bars. also, is the myrmidex spell book working?

The easiest way I found to run any of the pits solo was to backtrack to the area where a lot of Brits were.. use an aoe spell... run to the new area of fighting and invis once the mob that was chasing me got there.

I *think* Arachnid might work, but I'm not entirely sure; I would need to do another test on that. I was one of the people that did Myrmidex Queen with @CovenantX last night on my thrower, and my base damage with EoO was in the 40's, using a 100% fire weapon - 120 Anat, 120 Tactics, 120 DI (not that the extra 20% matters), which was done without discord. With level 3 Elemental Fury active, I did 76 damage every time it'd proc.

AH!! I see why you are having issues finding the Sea Serpents. Please review my path to completing this quest faster.. It might help you in the future.

Wow. I raise: I started in Trinsic - I knew the Salvage Hooks from Hepler would be useful (Forget who first posted it on here, but ty for the info), so I bought a bunch of those (some of which dropped to the ground because I was overweight), threw them on my boat, then had to sail all the way from there to Jhelom. I managed to kill enough water eles (I'm pretty sure I killed 30 of these by the end...) & krakens in that first batch - the sea/deep sea serpents took a lot longer & required another trip to Hepler. I sailed straight east from Jhelom @ that point and just dropped a few more to finish up.

@Kyronix please help!
Make sure you are killing mobs on the front lines. If you aren't, you'll get message along the lines of what you just killed being away from the front lines. I'm not sure what tactics you were doing, but 5 hours seems a little long. Even if someone else is fighting for the team you are fighting against at some point someone will win. You can check the status of the battle by double clicking the banners/posts.

Not sure what issue you are describing...the pits battle shouldn't take that long, even if someone is fighting for the side you are fighting against at some point one side HAS to win. I was able to do the entire side with a paladin in about an hour or so. Leading your enemies into an approaching line of your allies is a particularly useful tactic.

If you happen to get lucky and be in the area when the battle concludes you'll get win credit for the team you were allied with if they are in fact the victors. There's not kill requirement threshold for getting credit. Sure, someone could just park themselves down there and get credit while others battled - but given this is a small piece of a larger quest chain it wasn't worth locking them out.

Because both times I went over the two hour Mark? I know in each case the banners said I had killed 17 of 20 wave 3 of brits. This is what led me to think it is broken.

My guess is you were killing members of both teams, zeroing out any progress.

@Kyronix I hope you are still following the thread, I'd like to provide more input on how this encounter is working.

I tried an archer tonight, 120s in archery / tacts/ anat / healing/ resists/ and 106 chiv. Sporting 170+ dex and a nice suit / bow.

I decided since no one was willing to help with Myrmidex quest I'd try Brit side.

When I arrived someone had started (and given up) on Brits, they were facing lvl 2 myrmidex warriors at first Brit flag.

I started an hour long battle, moving the flag up to second area for Brits. I used no area effect whatsoever, just EoO and DF. I stayed with Brits so that I always got the correct message. I cycled through two waves (lvls 1-3) of myrmidex / barrabs.

I never won, never received any message, just endless battle.

I am begging you, please tell me what is supposed to happen here? I've tried tamers, archers, weavers, and mages. I've followed what I *think* are all the rules. I've tried both sides, and total i now have almost 8 hours in this encounter required JUST TO START the quest.

I really appreciate the fact that you have responded, I just don't think this event is working the way you intend. Please tell me what is supposed to happen, b/c I feel certain your intent was not 8 hours of endless battle without victory. Thanks for you input,

Also, to follow up, I checked every single Myrmidex drone and warrior corpse I killed tonight. Out of 50? 70? more? I managed to get 1 (ONE) moonstone shard of a body. That's rough.

LOLOLOL. The quest isn't as hard as people in this thread make it sound. I do agree with the pits encounter should only be done again if you are changing allegiances. My question about this is , why is there parts of the quest chain where you do stupid things like go to the casino? Summon a vorpal bunny? Really? Why isn't all parts of this quest involved in eodon? By the way you DO NOT need fishing skill to fish up your chest for the quest. I do think that most people on atlantic don't understand that there is TWO different ways to do this quest. LOL. Trammies

Silent, what shard are you on?

It took me roughly 45 minutes to solo the pit battle with my tamer and GD. It seems that you are advancing to the 3rd and final stage....remember to follow your allies....once a flag has been won, your allies will tend to just gather around that flag and not move. Go to the next flag, the one closest to the exit and battle there. There *Should* be 3-4 waves...one easy wave (Myrmidex Drones/Brittanian Army) followed by 2-3 *harder* waves (Myrmidex Warriors/shaman and the other side has Archers in green shaman in white...and red/blue and black armored guys) It takes awhile but no more then an hour if things are going correctly.

So my last update here. Tried the Brit side again last night hoping to at least get some moonstone shards. While there, I saw my first player all week. They told me the brit side isn't even working on Siege because Fire Island is different and a critical location is missing. So that is awesome.

I stuck with it just to kill myrmidex for a bit, not a single moonstone shard piece dropped.

Final statistics for the week:

About ten hours cumulative time spent in the pit.

One moonstone shard looted out of about 80-90 dead myrmidex.

Only one other player encountered in the pit in 10 hours.

Achieved victory for either side 0 times.

I have officially lost all enthusiasm for the new content.

Underpopulated. I could not get anyone to join the Myrmidex side, calling out on general chat. Tried to solo. It was going to take too long. I need a Britannian slayer weapon.
Gave up on Myrmidex side. If no one is even interested in fighting the pit battle, that means no one later to help defeat Zipactriotl.

Used other character to solo for the Britannian side. Took about three hours. Found three moonstone crystal shards this time, which is an improvement over one, none, and none.

I'm not looking for an "easy button." I would like a "not extending into naptime." You have to do this all in one sitting, and that sitting is taking too long.

Sorry you're having such a hard time Silent. I am planning on making an archer over there and coming to help you this weekend to see what's up. I already have a fencer but ranged is much better for this encounter.

Larissa you would be welcome to add to the siege population, but I won't be available for this quest. Between my frustration this week and the Great Lakes players talking about a new dupe exploit related to the in game store, I think my patience is finally running out.

Ok, I am going chime in on this....I finally decided to give this quest a shot. It took about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. I am a tamer-mage-SW and I had to get help from my sister on her pally. I did try getting the Britain's to help but these guys are always on HT(High Tea, for those, might not know). It is frustrating.
