This is freaky, I am on phone with a friend and Kasperky shut her down
saying UO Assist was a trojan (file was UOAD) She spent the last few hours
cleaning her comp.

Okay weeeird I'd had UOAssist open but I closed because switch back and forth between accounts. It was closed when Kaspersky called client.exe a virus. I just spent 3 DAYS cleaning my computer because I got Mind Spark A PUP from Razer Cortex booster program. This used to Game Booster by Obit, Razer the gaming peripherals company bought and injected with malware/spyware/crapware etc. A big shout out:banana::danceb: to the good people at Bleeping Computer.com they help get my computer clean and running better than ever.

Now this happens.:sad2::rant2: :yell::cursing:

Hi all, same happened to me. It hasn't deleted client.exe, but if you go into the quarantine folder and restore it, then all should work again.
Seems to not like something to do with writing to the UO desktop folder...

Kaspersy I tried and the pile of (*&(*&(*& wouldn't let me open my frelling email... no matter what. If I can't read my )*)(*) email what the heck do I want that for?!?!

I thought it was crap.

McAffee is a joke and using that in the early days of my computer experience I got a nice worm that Norton found and was only too happy to remove for me. Infact anytime I've had any issues they have always been more than happy to help me out with whatever it is... they will often tell me to have the person responsible for a website or product contact them if there is an issue with their site or what have you and if they are a legit person who isn't putting harmful stuff on your PC they can generally work things out.

Nortons help line has been super and even has helped me with many issues that weren't even related to their product or service... general computer issues that I was having trouble with... they have always been super nice.

Yes it's bloated and such but you know if you use a modern machine with plenty of ram and a good processor that isn't an issue.

And it also comes with a setting to be able to "tone" that down when your gaming.

If it happens to you I guarantee you won't think it's so laughable.

PDM:Trojan.Win32.Generic was a fairly common false positive with Kaspersky, especially with online game-related programs. Either ignore it, or set an exception for UO.

Now happening with norton
Norton whines about "suspicious activity" every time UO patches something to either client, it's paranoid.

Norton has been flagging my client as malware after each of the last two update but no issue since it gives me the option to quarantine, remove , allow once or always allow.

All antivirals are pretty bad things to have on your PC. If you must have one (if you're no good on computers), just have Microsoft's security essentials.

Norton just flagged UO Assist as a virus and removed it (without asking) from my wife's computer. Oh, the joy.

Quite frankly with the exception of one of my computers I don't have AV on them. Been around long enough to know what to avoid and how to eliminate the issue if it ever does present itself.

Just had an update to my Windows 10 and now Windows Defender is Identifying the client.exe as Malware and deleting it.

Real world problems.....

Figured out I can just change a setting to exclude the folder. Problem solved

The only thing I see in this thread is not the Trolls or the people justifiably concerned about Trojans and viruses.
It's the fact that not one Dev has bothered to re-assure their remaining players that the clients are indeed clean and it's just an over-zealous virus protection.

Remind me again what exactly are the Subs for? you could get this kind of service from just the kickbacks from gold seller sites.....Does not warrant the most expensive monthly sub of any MMO.

Now I am worried Norton is silent when it comes to porn sites :)
Although this was probably a sarcastic comment I feel I need to remind the general populous once more,
Viruses and Trojans are more likely to come from the sites your kids use, like early learning and cartoon sites.
This is because they can easily get access and also drop in many pop-ups hidden behind brightly coloured things your kids are just gonna click on the "yes" button.
Remember once you clicked "yes" you actively give the 3rd person access to your computer legally (very VERY grey area like most apps use).

Porn sites are just targeted by amateur virus writers wanting to get practice as most seasoned authors will know that if you use porn sites then you most likely have very good anti virus/firewall protection in place already (so the missus don't find out). :p

Just a public service announcement.

ps, no, i'm not a virus author ;)
pps, not gonna say anything about my usage of porn sites :p

this happened to me today. i am using windows defender in Win10. go to the defender program, (start, all apps, widows system, windows defender) . open the history and then quarantined items. click on "view details". a box will open with the virus it removed. check the box next to it and then click on restore. it will put the exe file back where it belongs.
