Depends on what you feel is important in-game. What you don't think is important is history and memories in the game. It's not the stuff, it's not the house (though sometimes it can be)... it is memories. Friends that have come and gone... I wouldn't leave my shard till they turn the lights off on UO. That's just how it is.

Many others feel the same way. I don't need a crowd of people to make the shard home. Why others think that we all want to be on a shard like Atl I don't know.

As for turning off transfers... well you know we lived without them for years. Turning them off and all would just make me happy since then the x-sharders wouldn't be all there to snatch and grab the EM drops and be obnoxious to the people trying to enjoy the event for the RP.

Now maybe if they created new shards that were "themed" where if you were into say PvM or PvP or RP and themed the shard to the playstyles.... you might see people wanting to leave their home for something like that....

I could see folk leaving shards and going to something more suited to their playstyle. But we all know that's not going to happen. They have enough trouble with playstyles.

But this subject is moot since they have said time and again "since you can move if you wanted to by getting transfer tokens they will NOT close any shards... they will NOT be merging any shards.... these things they have said time and again.

Now one think I think that one thing they could do would be to add a gate that say connects 3 or 4 shards... so you'd live on a "cluster" basically. Though this would be a lot of land to be going between and then you have to wonder do you then have 21 or 28 char or do you lose 14 to 21 characters? anyway those are some serious questions. Now if they could cluster the shards somehow and make it so most dungeons would be "shared" with each of the shards.. but this would require coding and such I just don't think they are capable of.
Yeah nothing will happen and some people would rather the game die than to face change. Without NEW players the game will die, just a fact. Sometimes hard choices are made for the greater cause

Yes thats why they cling to the dead client that won't be updated anymore.... instead of moving on so they can concentrate on one client and they act like you killed their firstborn when you update the old art to be nicer...

And again... not updating the art and making the game look more "modern" and updated so most people won't even LOOK at UO let alone try it and they refuse to make a new player guide ... so new players are left to the "mercy" of old players many of whom are horrible and inconsiderate to the new players.

So this IMO is the LEAST of the problems plaguing UO.

Hello guys and gals!

I have been asked once already to clean up this thread from derailment. The OP has a very specific question he is asking. If we feel the need to discuss shard mergers or anything similar again as a community, I think it would be best to open a new thread under that specific topic.
Thank you.

If your going to give up on a client I'd pick the least favorite one lol. Let's end the favorite client, the CC. I wonder if anyone would notice? lol *rolls eyes* It's not they can't work on the CC, they do it everyday. They're afraid to work on it to any real extent. They just need better programmers I guess. You try working on the CC, put it on test. See what happens. But they don't even try, that's the sad part. But it doesn't matter, the CC is here to stay. It'll never go away. That would be the instant end of UO because the EC is even more dated looking than the CC. At least the CC has old school charm, the EC just looks bad. The CC graphics have they're own unique nice look. The EC graphics just look bad compared to any other game out there.

The EC client looks bad in comparison to a cow pie I stepped in this morning..........

What good is history when there is no one to see it. You either adapt or die and origin is DEAD. Imagine a new player coming into UO and choosing origin shard..... I have a simple solution. Turn off xfers to the shards such as origin and give players like 6 month window to do a free xfer if they want to stay that's fine but know xfers are permanetly disabled after this window. I guarantee there would be a mass exodus well in origin's case 20 people. If you wanted to stay then hey you still have your house. Furthermore I don't think nothing has been put to bed on this topic :) Embrace change!
As an Origin player, let me tell you a little story about Origin.

Origin was designated as one of two live test shards after things were on test center. The first couple years we had more unexpected downtimes and other issues that drove people away. For quite some time, Origin had 2 active auction houses. I owned one of them. We had auctions 2-3 nights a week with one auction house, and another once a week with another auction house.

Then people started leaving due to the constant issues. It then became sad because players saw other players leaving, complained about how the shard was dying then they too packed their bags and left. Factor in having X-sharders who would come in, get the cheap goods or the new items and transfer them back to their shard and you have that issue as well.

Origin used to be a great shard but the problem, ultimately, became the "No one is playing here, so I'm leaving" problem. If they would have just stuck around, they would have had people to play with.

I placed my first castle on Origin ( empty spots I stumbled upon) back in 2008 so it has been dead for a while.
I remember being all excited and bragging on the origin shard forums and being told if I didnt like mine there were 4-5 other empty castle spots available presently. This was way before transfer shields. This was early in the EM program and the only time I saw anyone in game was either at an auction or EM night.

I just hope that when that castle dropped in 2009 it was a good idoc ( it was loaded) but I doubt anyone even was there to notice. It is sad...

I have a castle on origin and a full stable of characters I love to pop on and develop. Quiet and peaceful compared to drama filled and greedy. Always nice to remember why i still play this poorly moderated and maintained game. To each their own is the only good part of uo left

Depends on where it was. I might have gotten it in 2009 - or some of it as i was IDOCing around then.
I have two castles on Origin. I haven' t played as much as I would like due to real life getting in the way, but I hope to be playing more soon.

I knew frostbolt if this is the right one. A dead shard would be good for him :) I would suggest Origin for the US. It's not super busy unless things changed now days but Oceania was a blast when I played there. Had the right kind of population for me when I did. Good peeps.
