Escorting Tiger Cubs

Can we get the scripted death of tiger cubs gone? I'm not saying make it easier but some of them appear to be obviously scripted deaths. Meaning, no matter what you do they're going to die.

I've got a level 6 arcane focus gift of renewal on them immediately after the cage drops. I'm using greater confusion potions to break agro of poachers and get them all to attack me. I'm using a max damage warrior and kill poachers faster then anyone else in the area yet there is no saving some cubs.

I escort the cubs and 2 poachers spawn, I kill them. 3 steps later 2 more spawn which I kill. 3 steps later or sometimes IMMEDIATELY after the 2nd round is dispatched 3 more poachers spawn. Rinse and repeat until the cubs are dead. Sometimes the instant a cub dies, the remaining poachers simply vanish. I imagine this is due to them being scripted to die and once dead the poachers have no reason to be there.

I know some folks may argue that its just a touch of reality in our game but I do not find scripted deaths in any game fun. Taking away even the remote possibility of survival is a weak game mechanic. Casinos around the world know that players enjoy games of chance and when you take away that small percentage, it no longer becomes fun. Possibly they're not scripted deaths but it certainly seems that way with the current game mechanics.

Has anyone else noticed this?

all i can say is my first time doing the cubs, the poachers only spawned once ever on several cages. I used my spellweaver/mage/bard and pretty much the cubs walked to the bridge without issue. I found the tiger cubs to be super easy. Since I am still new to this quest , i cannot offer much more than what I have experienced.

I had a good one happen to me last night. While walking back to safety my defenseless little cub stalled while I was killing spawn and an new cage and cub popped up around it TRAPPING my released cub inside. It could not move anymore and to top it off, poachers kept jumping out to kill it. The problem was every poacher spawned outside the cage and targeted the trapped cub they couldn't reach. I couldn't keep up with the spawn, even though I tried to open the second cage. I figured eventually a poacher would spawn inside the cage and kill it and I could clean up the spawn so I went and did a father away cage. When I came back there were more poachers around the cage than I could count. Several very nice people had showed up and were cleaning up the mess.

It took the combined efforts of several dragons, a turtle and three mystics' colossus to get the new cage to vanish (in which the trapped cub immediately was executed). All's well that ends well, but if it wasn't for some very nice adventurers that area would have looked like an EM event in no time. ;)

the cubs are attacked by summons so use something that won't affect them (though they're pretty strong) or heal them........ i used natures furies and discord on the poachers....... the cubs stood up to that the times they got caught up in the mess..... it wasn't very difficult but I've heard of others like you also having a hard time, so i understand..... once you get a handle on it, its not so bad

I've done that specific part of the chain quest almost 40 times now. I just don't like them being rigged to die.
Giving our Devs the benefit of the doubt, maybe it was just horrid luck. It sure doesn't seem that way tho.

One trick I've learned to speed up cubs taking the scenic tour is to attack them. They make a bee-line run at you.
Just stay a couple steps in front of them and take the straightest line to safety. I've even managed to pull some
into safety from poachers at the very end using this method. :)

I hear you @Acid Rain I did it the other night had the same thing happen but added in having 4 Myrmidex spawn right beside me too while i was killing the 3 poachers that spawned all the while kept invising the cub to keep it alive and hitting it with Greater Heals and bandaides on my tamer while my Greater Dragon was taking a ton of heat... and yet the cub managed to die anyway... 2 steps from the freaking bridge because it stopped to take a yawn and stretch and got ganked by 3 more poachers.

To me it seems that every time you invis the cub, new Trappers will spawn. So when I stopped invising them it was less spawn and easier to get them to the bridge.

Attacking the cub is the trick to keep them moving. You can't do damage to them. Also I find that keeping the original poachers alive keeps more from spawning. Just a tip

I tried that. Greater confusion pot, got all 3 on me, whirlwind them down to about half health then continued escorting the cub with poachers slowly following.
2 more poachers spawned. o_O
While killing those 2, the 3 others caught up.:wall:

ive done probably 100 cub rescues and i have yet to have one die.
you can heal the cubs with vet and/or magic.
i just diso the guys that appear and kill them, i rarely have to even heal the cubs.

haven'y done that many, but I been using a peace tamer and have yet to lose a cub. If something pops while the cub moves I area peace then quickly kill with the dragon turtle. I use the same tamer to do the hatchlings as well.

I wouldn't say it's a scripted death. It just sounds like you are running up against the RNG bad streaks. It's kinda like when a pack of paragons all decide to spawn at the same time while you are hunting in Ilshenar.

A few hints which I found helpful, for the warriors out there don't forget those weapons with disarm! It seems to help. Heal and invis the tiger. When you invis it, make sure you get the poachers targeting you or your pet.

I have just occasionally had more poachers spawn than I could deal with. The characters I use for tiger cubs most often are my bard, area peace - drag the poachers away and provo them on each other, or my mystic treasure hunter, using the 'pick lock' option to get through the puzzle a bit quicker and mass sleep, let poachers chase you then RC. True the RC will attack the cub sometimes, but it doesn't damage it. I dispel it when it starts on the cub.

If you ask me, protecting the tiger cub is the easiest of all 5 parts - you can easily solo it:

1. Drop a Colossus at the entrance of the cub-prison
2. Try the mechanism. They will spawn and the first colossus will kill 2-3 of them. Then drop the second Colossus - no spawn left. Stay invis or hidden and let the Col do the dirty work. No Need to work hard if you can handle it the lazy way (my life-motto).
3. Solve the riddle and cure yourself with a spell
4. Escort the cub, if still spawn lives, drop a Colossus on them and heal the cub with spells. When the Col turns towards the cub, dispel it.

If you feel, it get´s hectic, cast mass sleep on the spawn, get a drink and a snickers ;-P

ITS SOOO F*****G EASY. I wish all the other parts would be soloabe so easily. But I dislike the Lava Thing and I cannot handle the bosses with my templates. So, I gave up and bought the rewards (see above: No Need to work hard if you can handle it the lazy way (my life-motto)).
