Increase Max Price on Vendors?

So, with people not being limited by holding gold in the bank, and being able to trade person to person to pretty much no limits, why can't vendored items be sold off a vendor for over 175m? In game it states the reason as a bank box limitation. Is there a downside to this or something?

at first this seems like a good suggestion but can you imagine the vendor fees for higher priced items?

Well it is optional of course to price an item that high :)

Relating to inflation, People can sell to each other in a trade window for billions. They can sell from statics for billions. Cost of gold is extremely low, so yea the price of items in gold would go up. This has been the story of UO since it came out in 97'. A new Vet reward mentioned by Mesanna is going to be a safe that allows a player to auction an item. I am sure that will go over 175m. Why should vendors be the only mechanism for trade that has imposed limits?

back when vendors were 100m max, since price of gold was much higher, that item priced at max way back would need to be priced at around 500mil, yet we have a max of 175 currently. rationally it doesnt make sense since theres no limit to the bank box anymore. If someone wants to price an item at 1platinum i see no reason why they shouldnt be able to. the vendor fees and market will of course keep prices down like its always been.

theres many items that have been devalued because of vendor caps. if an items worth is around 250, alot of people just throw it on a vendor for 175, which kills the market and the desirability of content.

Funny I did a vendor search the other day and Anons spellbook from shadowguard was priced at 199mil on a vendor on atlantic. So this person has priced something higher than 175mil.

I'd support that, if any item priced higher than 175mil would have an increased item fee, lets say 6% of the item price per day.
Wouldn't be a that bad gold sink.

I'm sure this is not the first discussion (i just cannot find the other discussion - if it's being discussed - on any of the forums). I also know this isn't knew news. I am simply wondering with all the new UO financial changes why we cannot move to vendors that mimic those changes (Or if it's coming and i'm just lame and don't know). I am sure i speak for everyone when i say the new trade systems is AMAZING compared to the old way of trading with high volumes of gold involved. I'm just waiting for the day i can put items for 1 platinum on my vendor AND it not cost me 75m a day to do so... The auction safes have a lot of bugs, but in theory they are a step in the right direction. Now they just need to follow up on their conversations and move to seeing auction safes in vendor search like they have said is going to happen.

In all honesty though, we need to rethink vendors so that they allow for higher volume sales that don't break the bank at the same time. I wanted to open it up for discussion and see if this is being talked about or if anyone had any ideas???

This is UO - everyone has an opinion!!!:cheerleader:

Doesn't an auction box would still cost you a huge chunk of closing fees? Or is that only if you use the "buy it now" option? In any case, re vendors capped at 175m, it's been asked at dev meet and greets, and Mesanna has consistently said 175m is the cap, and she's not interested in changing that.

I simply refuse to use vendors now with the stupidity charge fees, auction safes are too risky as well. I end up having to spam general chat or icq status to sell items.

Here ya go. I brought this up in October.

Increase Max Price on Vendors? | Stratics

An Corp!
Why to sir!

Formerly-
Vendors held gold - the value increased from 100m to 175m some time ago.
A Luna vendor was required for
"Duped items and transfer bug items" were easily noticed because they couldn't be sold on vendors.

Now-
Vendors still have hold. But it's not a necessity at all.
No one bothers to ask if an item is vendorable anymore because there is no need.
Vendors are perfect for bulk of small ticket items like sots, scrolls, crimmy's, etc.. But stratics has really picked up in higher end non-rares trade forums.

The majority of the UO community has shifted quite well to the new system, but I just have no need for vendors anymore.

@Captn Norrington can we possibly merge this discussion under @Blue Fly and bump it to continue this discussion since he already started it?

dunno why you say this. theres still plenty of non-vendorable items. the systems very broken.

i was sold 2 non-vendorable forged metal tools the other day.
i still have random non-vendorables from transfers. stuff no-one would bother duping.
theres a bug where items become non-vendorable after being put on vendors, and then no one can buy them
items still go non-vendorable after transfers

the "fix" to non-vendorables i think didnt work correctly either. im 99 percent sure my slither was duped because i bought it at the time all the duping was going on and it was like 50m. now its vendorable.....

So just saying, the non-vendorable problem is still a mess.

its only the buy it now. techincally still cheaper unless your item sells off a vendor in 5 days or less. no fees given if the buyout wasnt done.

I didn't mean that as in it not being beneficial. I mean it as in tons of items are being sold, but majority of sales that I have done have been PtP not VtP sales. In the last few months, I've not bought much off vendors. Just spam it, someone has it, I buy it. Because of this, we have unintentionally removed a lower price point on non-vendorable items... No one hardly checks it anymore... We either accept it and use it, or we sell it for the price we paid so the next guy will use it... Where before, there was a drastic drop in price point. We have Eliminated the need for vendorable items on vendors because we can trade billions between each other... Not to mention that vendors are still for convenience because I can always get the item I'm looking for millions cheaper and fairly quickly in chat, but that's not new.

1. The Cap on vendors is dumb. I can trade 6 plat to one person in a single click but i cant buy something off a vendor for more than 175m?
2. Non-vendorable is dumb. It doesnt equate to the item being duped in most cases. It is one of the dumbest things ive ever seen mesanna put into play. There is absolutely no reason for it to exist whatsoever. The duped sphynx, mythic tokens, ari robes, knowledge robes, talkeesh robes, transfer tokens.... etc all allowed on vendors.

The very out of touch Mesanna on the other hand continues to think these are good policies to up hold. I just dont get it.

oh i see what you mean. well i still use vendors 99 percent of the time. id glady pay 20 to 30 percent more to get the item instantly. i usually only buy from trade window when theres none of the item i need for sale on vendors.

i also see items for sale that are good deals, stuff i use, but just not worth taking the time to meet up with the person. if these items were on vendors id buy in a second. people should at least put the item on a vendor during the time they are spamming chat.

I don't think vendor fees would be changed, in today's uo economy, how else can they remove so much gold from the game...

To me, I think the vendor fees are OK. Would be nice if they were less of course. The main issue is not being able to go over 175m, when every other method of trading and selling can go over. I can't come up with a good reason why we cant???

@Mesanna Penny for your thoughts? Issue with game mechanics or what?

I would suggest that 175m puts a ceiling on non-decorative items. Sure, if you want to pay 15 billion for a void rock... I won't blame you. :D But for the latest and greatest *spawning* high end equipment (or even spawning deco), the stuff that will be relatively easy to find at 50m in 6 to 12 months, there are those who simply shoot the moon on price. Slithers are a rare exception in that they've not come down much. But consider the unstable time rift - that wiggly yellow thing. 2 months ago, they were 175m on vendors. Last month, 80m. Today, 20 to 30m. I see it with EM drops as well - some people simply price as high as the system lets them. 175m simply caps quite how greedy that highpoint can get... Perhaps when you're asking higher than 175m for a spawning something, your vendor is refusing to sell for fear of looking silly in the eyes of the other vendors... :p

-175m cap exists simply because that was the most gold that used to be able to fit in the bank (without an exploit) so that was the limit you could buy for. that is no longer the case, so it should be changed.
-The non-vendorable item situation is a complete failure, and is at this point more of an annoyance than anything. you can page a GM to fix your items to be vendorable if you want, so I will gladly buy cheap non-vendorable stuff through chat and then fix and flip on a vendor.
-I have no problem with vendor fees, I understand it is intended as a gold sink, which with the economy of UO being so inflated now I don't think it really makes a difference in that regard. I would like to see certain basic items (or items at low values) such as repair deeds and whatever to have no fees to help low pop shard peeps decide to keep them stocked somewhere. or possibly even a cross-shard vendor system for items like that to help the low pop shards, or even just have npc vendors sell the basic crap like that.

I wish this were the case, but i had a very bad experience recently - they are helping fix this stuff less and less... If you have a hookup or something, please let me know - apparently half of my house is duped due to moving it back and forth from ATL to LA to ATL - that GM was not friendly - simply told me to submit a bug report - which i did over a week ago... nothing :(

i've had a couple items fixed twice, but it has been at least a few months since having it done. 1st time I did it was right after last fest when a couple things I bought off vendor on chessy wouldn't vendor on atl after xfer. 2nd time was for a couple forged metal tools I bought at bank to resell.

it seems some are fixing them, some arent. there was a recent change that was supposed to solve the solution. it did for some items lol. my slither (which i bought off a vendor before non-vendorable had been implemented) was most likely duped judging from the amount for sale at the time and the price. after the non-vendorable thing came to be the slither was non-vendorable. maybe 2 months ago after this "fix" my almost surely duped slither became vendorable again.

but ive also had items since then, totally random stuff which is non-vendorable.

ive had about 60 total items fixed, probably about 6 times in all id say.

it seems some GMs are fixing it now, some arent. last time i had things fixed was a little over a month ago. mornings seem to be best. i think it was GM Nadigan who fixed mine last time but dont remember for sure.

Point period and end of story.... GM's are dealing with problems the game has created willingly. Im sure they get tired of it. The non vendorable code should just be removed.
