Agapite is the Greek word for 'dear,' and it is a synonym for the mineral agaphite which is Iranian turquoise.

Agapite, verite, and valorite are connected to the principles of UO. Love, Truth, and Courage.

I had this exact same question a couple of years ago, so I looked it up and wrote it down. (Actually, I put it in a spreadsheet with the virtue matrix to see how everything lined up. Yes, UO players are that ridiculous.)

Agapite: from the classical greek Agape or "love"
Verite: from the latin veritas or "truth"
Valorite: from the latin val or middle French valeur or "courage"

It's actually a nice tie in to the principle system on the part of the devs.

Edit: As an aside, the dev's did not link this to the color system for the virtues.
Love = Yellow
Truth = Blue
Courage = Red

So really, Agapite should be yellow (probably was too close to gold), verite should be blue, and valorite should be red.

It's actually pretty easy if you do the Tier quests with Thepem the Apprentice in the Royal City, to unlock Tier 2 for the "Pink is the New Black" quest, which gives Elixir of Agapite Conversion - UOGuide, the Ultima Online Encyclopedia
You can easily farm Shadow Ingots for it from the Shadow Ore Eles in Yomotsu Mines.

Don't forget the gargoyle pickaxe and prospectors tool... I can find any ore easily, but then again, I have a dedicated miner that I play often and know where to go. It's random when the ore veins turn random
