Global Warming in Sosaria?.

I have a home on Dagger Isle on Europa and recently there has been a large increase in the number of polar bears roaming the island. I have never seen them in such numbers before, there have always been a few about but now its almost as if there are herds of them. Anyone seen this before?, maybe we have global warming here too and this is a side effect.

My guess is this is more a problem of someone's capture and release program.

The none spacing in the names kinda gives it away.

This seems to be the result of someone having an intense taming session there. The polar bears which have been tamed are considered gone for the server spawn, which then generates new bears without cleaning up the orphaned ones.
Though I'm a bit confused by the color of the names in your pic; have you changed "wild neutrals" from grey to light green? Otherwise, if this is light blue (jpg artifact?), the person who tamed them should have run out of control slots...

you are assuming one person did all this....you know what they say about making assumptions.

heh, well someone had to start with an alternative assumption... more polar bears = global warming somehow did not seem to be very plausible...

Damn and I thought I had found out why we had no snow this year.

The name colour is the result of my endless tinkering with options trying to get a readable colour in my Journal.

:) well he got a point i know this is a for fun thread but I did read an article some time ago about 1000s of starving polar bears waiting at the shore line for the pack ice to lay so they could go out and catch seal
Polar bears do not eat anything during the summer months the land does not support them there is not enough food there for them to eat they eat almost 100% seal and the only way for them to get them is if there is ice
The pack ice lay about a month later now than it did when they started to make records of when the ice lay and that is why so many bears are at the beaches they are starving
Already now it is very common that females with cubs and the cubs do not make it during the summer they starv to death
So it is easy to see why polar bears are the poster boy of global warming delay the ice a month or 2 more and it is probably the end of polar bears could be as fast as 30 years

Another perspective in this is that if you remove polar bears that keep the numbers of seals down they will multiply very fast and seals are extremly good killers there is a reason fishermen hate them and they are rising in numbers very fast since the 80s at one point they was the poster child of (polution of the seas) very soon they might become a realy big problem
I saw some numbers that said seal eat as much fish as the entire fishing industry take out of the northern seas at this point
removing the polar bears that keep theire numbers down and they could completly destroy the fishing industry in these waters and the eco system and i do not think other top predators can take the polar bears role ( killer whale shark etc) the changes just goes to fast nature do not have time to adapt

Seals are also very smart they can get in and out of fishtraps very easy If you get 1 or 2 seals iside your fish trap(and this is not some small time trap i m talking about arms 1000s of meters long) they might destroy almost the entire catch because what they do is they take a bite of every fish + destroying your gear

And they are very hard to hunt with rifle the window of shooting them is short and they only stay floating after shot for a short time

So to creat an effective hunt of seals to keep the numbers down might be very difficult

So yea i m realy intrested to see how this work out

Nothing against polar bears (in or out of UO). However, I hate snow and ice and favor global warming. :hula:
