Separate forum for TOL?

There is a separate forum location for Stygian Abyss... why not for Time of Legends?

It seems like quite a lot of the open U-Hall threads relate to this, might be better to have all TOL topics in one place and possibly help de-clutter U-Hall a little bit. Also would be easier for those casual Stratics browsers who are just looking for new thoughts and info on the expansion.

I have to agree with Kelmo... Moving ToL-related threads to another forum just means there is less discussion on UHall, and there is less likelihood of people going to yet another forum to talk about the expansion.

I would think it's actually the opposite guys, right now the devs have to search through every single Uhall thread looking for people's questions about the expansion. It would be much more efficient for them to be able to look for people's questions in the Time of Legends forum where they know that every single post is about the expansion and that is where any posts requiring their attention would be.

It also makes it easier for future readers of the forum to know exactly where to go to find the answers to their questions, instead of having to dig through hundreds of Uhall threads.

Something as simple as "How do I get money out of the bank?" should always be on the main forum.

They hardly need to search through every thread, that's what the @ tagging is for. Especially since not every thread needs a dev response.

ToL is brand new. Sweeping it all off the main forum would make sense in December, but now? Notsomuch.

Finally uhall is cleaned out of all the new publish threads. Now I can read all the really important stuff on uhall.

It's a good idea because there are people who aren't avid Stratics users who come here to look for info on the new expansion, but don't feel like sorting through everything on Uhall. Having separate forum puts everything into one place for people to look.

It's 2-3 clicks away. Not a big deal.

1. You can't strictly define whether a thread is purely related to ToL or not. Every threads could possibly contain useful and relevant information about ToL because it's new and hot now. It will end up forcing most of active Stratics users to check 2 separate forums everyday also making people not notice the info they're looking for if the info is buried in a thread on one of the two boards that they don't check.

2. The number of threads newly started on U Hall seems just fine, not too low, not too high, offering readers the convenience of checking all the necessary and relevant info about the game in one place and it also works as lobby for chatting, the more people the more chat and fun.

3. Stratics already has way too many subforums. Why add even more ?

I was the person who moved all the threads from Uhall to the new forum, and I had to go back 12 pages in Uhall to find the threads, and I already knew which ones I was looking for. If someone logged into Stratics for the first time a few months from now and was looking for the information they would most likely have to go back 50+ pages in Uhall to find it. Instead, all of the information will be safe and waiting for them in the clearly marked forum with the same name as the expansion. I also truly do not understand people's aversion to reading any forums other than Uhall, the new one is literally *right* next to it, less than an inch to the side of Uhall. All people have to do is click the "General" tab at the top of the screen to switch which forum they are looking at.

I think you're grossly underestimating how supremely lazy humans can be...

I think the point is that the expansion is new, so UHall should be full of relevant threads. This way, if your mythical new poster goes looking on the most popular forum they can find it...and not have to go clicking.

I understand... but then it sounds like stratics staff put more importance to catering to returning players and the devs which looks rather smaller group than regular active users of Stratics who are also paying active players in UO. And I think returning players probably end up using search function either way if they're looking for specific info about ToL.
And distance of just one click actually makes a big difference in web browsing experience regardless of you're "lazy" or not.

UHALL ...... and with most folk you will find it's out of sight out of mind and they will either keep posting here because they don't find the answer here or they will just forget it... Already I've noticed a MASSIVE decline in the number of posts regarding the TOL...

We can appreciate that people have different preferences as to the type of content they're interested in, as well as how they like to have that content organized. This change was requested and mentioned by multiple people, and because it made sense, Stratics responded to those requests by creating a new forum. It's unfortunate it is not a unanimous preference. As noted, the forum software provides multiple features and settings that allow users to view content across Forums, which should help.

As for the posts slowing down...the new forum was created this evening, and posts began being moved even later still. It's now 2:30+ am pacific...typically a slower activity time for many. We will continue to remind and point people to the new Time of Legends forum as necessary so that users are aware there is still a place for it to be posted.

But you forget all the ones, who did not want it, said nothing because they was ok with it all being on UHall. I believe you was to fast to make this move, you should had made a poll or something. It seem to me, alot more is sad about the split.

That's not our fault if you one visit one forum. Some of us, like myself, visit multiple forums every time they log in. U-Hall, Trader's Hall, my respective shard forum, the template forums, etc. Having ALL topics consolidated into one sub-forum would make it much more difficult to find anything.

Massive decline? Over the past few weeks, easily half the topics in Uhall were about ToL. Not sure what U-Hall you're posting in....

Wouldn't you think that the Developer's, who are probably more concerned with ToL than anything else right now, would probably be keeping an eye on the ToL sub-forum? Also... when there is something really relevant like a massive bug, it's probably still applicable to post in UHall or tag one of the developers.

When merging forums was discussed there was an uproar. An example is shard forums. The big argument everything else would get lost under the Atlantic (and interestingly I think Catskills was specified) content and the other shards would get pushed back several pages.

Now they open up another forum to support Time of Legends because so many posts were being made and info was being pushed back several pages (both Time of Legends info and non-ToL posts) and guess what...there is an uproar.

You simply cannot please everyone, this is a consistent theme through life but especially us UO players who are really rooted in our opinions.

For the record I support less forums and merging existing forums but that is my opinion only.

Stratics isn't a democratic publicly funded program. It belongs to @Ron Bron and the rumors I've heard are that it has run at a loss since the day he got it. So Ron thanks for keeping the lights on with merged forums or not. To everyone else thanks for sticking around even if you don't agree with the decisions made here.

One suggestion though: I don't know who does the content for the main part of Stratics, but can they add a link to the "Taskbar" portion that leads to the ToL forum? "General" only directs to the Stygian Abyss forum, which I would assume is deader than George Washington.

Before voting, it would be extremely helpful for purposes of making an informed choice to know whether or not Broadsword will visit the TOL forum no matter where it is located to participate in various discussions that might occur regarding the new TOL-related content. For some reason, I've gotten the impression over the years (especially the most recent years) that the dev team seldom if ever visits any forum (or subforum) other than UHall.

I really don't see the point of moving threads about TOL to another forum if it means no one from the dev team will voluntarily visit there and participate in discussions.
