Trial accounts can (supposedly) only speak in the Help channel, they shouldn't have access to General. Having made a new char recently, I can attest to the fact that they spam hit the Help channel quite a bit. I also rarely see them in GC.

I like the .99 cent for a trial account idea, though it might be enough of an annoyance to new players to put them off trying UO as well. I think its worth a try though.

As for the RMT sites, it would really be quite easy to gut them like fish with a simple sting operation. Make a purchases on different shards. follow them back to their storehouses, then delete the whole thing and then ban all accessed accounts. It might take a month or two, and the expenditure of some cash, but its well within a GM's abilities to investigate and gather evidence for Mesanna to act on.

Trivial to circumvent by transferring purchased gold to a burner account prior to delivery. The burner account makes deliveries to customers and never even needs to leave town, much less be accessed to any houses. Paying a GM squad to sit around 24/7 playing Inspector Clouseau chasing goldsellers in-game is a losing proposition.

Now what they could do, what I hope they're doing, is incorporating some reasonable logging and flagging tools into this new non-physical currency system of theirs. Then they could just scan the logs for accounts making nothing but very large transfers and work from there. Goldsellers could avoid this for a while by only cashing hoarded checks on an as-needed basis, and only on burners, but eventually the fact that checks can't be created and can't be shard transferred should force their hand to an extent.

Even then it's important to remember that even massive games like WoW, with large well-resourced GM staffs, built-in logging tools, and no houses or checks to complicate matters, have never actually eradicated goldselling. The best you could hope for is that UO could put a dent in it if they did everything right.

@Dot_Warner Totally agree. I am so confused with all these posts about all this spamming when the only chan they can do this in is the HELP Chan.

From owning and running one of the largest private shards back in the day, I can say there is so much logging available server side that the potential to find out any information is in place.
