Seems like a good time... WHY SO FEW STABLE SLOTS?!!?!?

With the new expansion just around the corner, and 2 new pets announced, we also seem to be getting more stable slots... 2...more stable slots.

Thus I must make a post, to go along with the other 10 or so I have made over the years asking the question...Why???

Why only 2 extra? That won't even put us at 20 max! When you look at all the different colors of pets, all the different vanity/special occasion pets, all the different tamables in general both utilitarian (Dragons and the like) and and more RP-centric (Bears, Wolves, Birds, etc) and the number of tamables that have pack instinct... a stable with even 100 slots is perfectly justifiable. Those colored holiday horses were a PERFECT example. If you collected all the colors, you couldn't even stable them all! Chances are if you are a tamer you didn't have room for 1, let alone 20.

Why limit people who like to tame to such an absurdly low number? Why never boost more than 2 slots every 5+ freaking years?

Is there a technical explanation? If there isn't... then up the stable slots by a LOT. It can ONLY make the game more fun. That's the ONLY possible outcome. There are no negatives I can imagine. It seems like a no-brainer.

If there IS a technical reason could we know that so we don't wonder why we have this idiotically severe limitation?

So ends my yearly plea to look at giving us more stable slots.

Why not?????Easy...cause you dont use 90% of your pets anyway. They are old pets you never play with but refuse to release because you spent 9 months getting your pet mongbat to 7x GM.

More stable slots would just mean more pets trapped in a stall that never see sunshine....It is really an animal rights issue! :troll:

You want more slots....make another tamer....or 20 more tamers!! You can literally make a legendary tamer in under 5 mins if you just really need more stable slots.

Firstly, so freaking what? If I had 10, 20, hell 100 pets I don't EVER use, what difference does it make? It makes absolutely zero difference to anyone outside of myself. If I want to have a walrus for every letter of the goddam alphabet sitting in my stables who are you or anyone to tell me it's wrong? Why is having a fighting Mongbat at the ready a bad thing? Why is a holiday time only pet a bad thing? Rhetorical questions, they are not bad things.

Secondly how do you know what people do with their pets? I actually had a character with a pack of Dire wolves, a companion Timber wolf, some horses, and some other various pets all of which I traveled and hunted with on a regular basis. I would love to have the option to have a wide selection of pets to fit my mood when I play that character. Even if my play in this case is an outlier there ARE people who can do and would use a lot of pets in different situations, and allowing them to do so would only make the game more enjoyable. Especially if they end up doing a pet revamp allowing for more than one high end pet.

Lastly, I actually CAN'T make more characters to store pets on, my shard is a one character limit. Even if I did, why should I have to? If I have the data of 38 pets on my account what possible difference could it make if they are on one character rather than two? Also it may take 5 minutes, but that would be a costly 5 minutes.

The bottom line is there is no good reason. There is no reason that effects anyone outside of the individual, and there are PLENTY of potential reasons why it would make people happy, and increase the potential for fun and variety.

i've never understood the limitation. it's not like we can get all of our pets out of the stable at the same time. and it sucks to be forced to release an old pet in order to stable a new one.

More stable slots sounds fine to me - they could charge for them like they do for extra character slots if they want to make some money
And wouldn't it be fun if you could take them all out at once to line them up for a screenshot?
What a great group photo that would be :)

I think this is good news but also agree why only 2 more slots and by the way how did you come by this info, hope no DNR has been violated.

It was on the newsletter they've sent in August.

2 slots more is just too few. We need a lot more. :|

ummmm worse kept secret in UO.....lol play test leaks are as rampant as EM leaks... :)

I can see it having something to do with server storage or lag etc....but ya I would sell them $2 bucks a slot. 10 for $20....

I couldn't agree more! I love that they are giving everyone 2 more slots don't get me wrong but as a serious tamer I just can't understand why tamers don't have 50 slots at the VERY least.

Do they limit how many weapons a warrior can carry? NO. Do they limit the number of spellbooks a mage can have NO... Do they limit the number of picks and shovels for a miner NO..... do they limit the number of tools for a crafter NO.... What if they limited the others like they limit tamers? You can only carry 2 bows, sorry you can only have 2 spellbooks with you at a time.... the tamer can only have 5 slots so pretty much have my hands tied... and then further limited by having only a few stable slots. INSANE! Could you imagine if they limited weapons to slots? Spells to slots. What if you could only have X# of spells with you? SAME BS they have done to the tamer.

So why are my tools so grossly limited?

I can have tons of storage in a house, on a boat and in my bank.... but I can only put a TINY amount of pets in the stable? Does this make any sense at all? NO!

Ideally I'd like to see regular players have 10 slots and Tamers have 100... Infact you could give tamers 10 extra slots per levels of taming over 80. Or in increments of 5. 80 taming, lore and vet gets you 50 slots... 85 all gets you 65 slots... so on...

IMO you put that much effort into something you ought to be rewarded.

Or why can't I buy more stable slots??? I'd buy a stable expander. Say you can buy such a thing and it adds 20 slots and you can have as many as you want to buy for your account up to 100... I'd do it. But I still say it's just wrong IMO to limit a tamer so.

So many fun things could be done with taming.

1. Pet crystals: craftable or as loot. Traps a pet in a crystal statue that looks like the pet, but scaled to statue size. When double click would show pet stats as well as the tamers name and date. Very similar to taxidermy kits, except you tame them instead of kill them! Pets would also be able to be released from the crystals later on. This would allow players the ability to store and display some of the vanity/legacy pets that aren't really useful to hunt with but that we like to have.

I do agree that more stable slots are needed, and adding 2 doesn't come close to addressing the need. A none-tamer could easily fill up 10 slots.

That would be totally awesome! I would LOVE that!
