Rather ironic that you ask that about a code for a game, and a playerbase, that's so firmly entrenched in 1996 that change is vehemently resisted.

Idk, but I have not had any problems with waiting for codes from the store as of yet. All mine have worked straight away.

And it could be based on the type of payment you chose to use. A lot of companies that have had a problem with a payment will wait to get their money before they ship.

Only codes you'll wait for is Game time, the rest are instant. (I've been using the store a lot recently)
I think the gametime has to be confirmed with Broadsword/EA before the code is released so it can take a little time if ordering at anti-social US hours.

Some people prefer to avoid using the "automatic" payment functions, just in case something goes wrong and their credit card gets billed too much, or multiple times for one purchase. So they use gametime codes instead.

I just use a credit card personally.

You can buy gametime in your local currency at the store if you are outside US, and at least here they use a local broker, so my credit card is charged in BRL instead of USD.
To pay through the account management, I'd be paying some 30% worth of taxes for an international purchase in currency other than BRL, and would also have to live with an unfavourable currency exchange set by the bank that issued the credit card (currently at 3.8 BRL per USD, while the market price is at 3.5), and pay those taxes over the converted value.
Buying game time is far more convenient and cheaper if you live outside US.

Because I don't want auto-rebilling right now, and I don't want to also have to go through and then remove my credit card info after I reactivated my accounts, and then hope that it actually worked and it doesn't auto-rebill anyhow (Which it has done several times over the 15.5 years I've played)

Because For some reason, though Origin denies it was a hack, people were having FIFA 2015 being purchased 3-6 times or more on their accounts if they have credit cards saved to the account.

Note: thsi happened to me, my card declined every charge because they were from South Korea and I refuse to keep my card in the system.
