Havent' seen much activity in the existing thread about Windows 10 from months ago. I hope no news is good news in this case but I have not installed it yet, still wary. If you've installed it and it's working great or not, please leave a little note.

Also the news letter stated that if you ran them fine in windows 7 you should encounter no problems :)

Yep I know "they" say that, I would just like to hear the real experience folks say that.

Installed it about a week ago. After a rather rocky start things are pretty smooth now at least in the EC.

Only issue I have is with the minimize and maximise button. Everything else runs fine.

As does UOA, UOAM and UO Rudder. Auto map and rudder need to be in XP SP3 compatability mode to run fully. They worked without compatability but I was unable to freely move them around the screen.

I've been running both CC and EC no problems.

So it looks like CC with extras and EC are going to be ok but I get this distinct feeling that Win 10 is not all that it is cracked up to be. Yes I am a jurassic and damn proud of it and no I am not afraid of change but when something is working why do all you young whipper snappers think we are afraid. There is an old saying "If it aint broke do not fix it." New does not mean better, any of you younguns know what "3 of the tree" is, LOL Does anybody remember how fun it was to go out and work on a damn car but oh yea new is always better. Windows is going to push everybody to Win 10 and I hope they get all the bugs out of it before it is the only thing out there.

Running Win10 since initial Insider beta, no issues with EC or CC. Win10 far better than Win8.1, despite Lord Frodo's "distinct feeling." I suspect it's just gas.

I find that it seems to boot things faster. I have less wait time in booting programs and such. The only complaint I have about it so far is that everytime I shutdown and or restart I have to once again remember to hit the Numbers lock keep.... previously it was ALWAYS on .... now it shuts off each time and I have to turn it on every time I start-up.

because it will be broke when microsoft stops updating and providing support for old windows versions because they provided the latest one to everyone for free. If you have the option, probably should update eventually to prevent problems a year or two down the line with whatever current system you have.

And that is the sad part because MS will stop supporting all other windows a lot faster than they have been doing and force everybody to use Win 10. Just let it look the same as everything else so my wife and mother-in-law don't freak.

I have a decent computer. Runs everything but Windows 10 lol. I'd check the manufactures website to make sure you can run 10 before you go through the trouble. It was real easy to get 7 back though under system restore.

Thanks for all the info folks, I appreciate it. I installed 10 this morning and so far, other than a few program compatabilty problems it installed and ran like a champ. Can't say the same however for AVG, had to download and repair and the installation took ALL my whitelisted firewall programs off. IOBit's stuff, had to redownload Ultimate System Care, Malware, etc. Battleping I had to get a new ID number but all in all, for a major change it went pretty smoothly. Still deciding if I really like it or not and sort of agree with Frodo, Windows 7 was working great and I loved that version. Haven't found anything about this that would just blow me away with new usable features.

I can't say that I have either though I kinda think that many things seem to run smoother and faster.. but maybe that's just me.

I had an issue with Norton but they are awesome and fixed it right away. I had another issue with my Video card not wanting to work with it but once I downloaded and installed the "new" driver for it things are going great. So far most everything has either rolled on without an issue or had some sort of new patch/update available to make it work.

I have had some difficulty finding some programs and such but all in all it's not that horrible. I do kinda like how it seems to gather what I do often and make that easier to find and get back to.

We installed 10 last week and except using a couple programs in ad min it was working fine...
I saw the note thingy I could add and instead of using my usual email address I used another. last night I shut it down like I usually do. This morning when I came into the room I noticed my computer was on. Asked hubby if he turned it on and he said no.
I try to log in and nada. Keep trying. Same thing. I had to go out for a bit and when I came back still nothing. Seems that changing my email on the note thingy it changed on my log in.
So if you register anything for some of the new programs here just remember if you change any of that log in stuff.

My Dell is 5 or 6 years old. I5 cpu, quad core, 64 bit, nvidia GTX 760. Not best best thing going but it certainly runs UO just dandy. But it would have nothing to do with Windows 10 lol. I had a ton of problems with the whole Windows 10 thing. One thing after another and new (bad) things happening everyday. I guess the only thing I found interesting about it would be to have DirectX 12. But Windows 7 works fine for me. So I imagine I'll get Windows 10 when this one dies or I can't run something I really want. Windows 10 worked fine on my laptop and I like it much better than 8.1. Windows 10 seemed okay and I would have kept in on my desk top had it worked. Like I said before going back to 7 is easy enough so it's worth a try.

I have noticed a marked improvement in system performance running multiple clients (not multiboxing) with the upgrade to Win10. It was nice to finally be able to take advantage of all the RAM installed on the pc (the 16 gig limit of Win7 always pissed me off).

Windows 10 has slowed my laptop's overall performance. I didn't like 8 or 8.1. I don't like 10 either but am apparently stuck with it. I guess it's a good thing I don't expect to be active in UO for a while.

My poor old pc is doing fine, as is UO on it. My more tech-savy son informs me that win 10 is far less resource hungry than its predecessors. Also the previous install is kept for 30 days to allow you to roll back if you want to.

I saw the option to revert to Windows 7 (with no mention of an option for a revert to Windows 8)... but since my laptop came new with Windows 8 installed, and I took the free upgrade to 8.1 (and now 10), I assumed there was no revert option for me since I did not previously have Windows 7.

Well, after 14 days with the horror they call Windows 10 I’m back on Windows 7. Lest all you fine UO folks think that EA/Broadsword is the only company that puts stuff out before it’s ready and puts it out with major, minor and gamekilling bugs and if you have some patience, below are some, not all of my bad experiences with my “upgrade? to Windows 10” changeover.

I came from Windows 7 Home Premium, which I loved and I never had a problem. I have had it since my comp was new. I run a decent laptop, about 3 years old now but has ran wonderfully for it’s entire life with very few problems and never anything major. I figured heck, folks say this 10 is pretty good and I know that updates for Windows 7 will cease at some point so I figured, might as well get with the program.

Immediately after the “upgrade” I had to reinstall my virus program, my computer optimizer program, and my gamerouter helper program. All codes that showed these programs were paid for had to be reactivated and virus program had to be completely downloaded again, losing all my settings for white listed firewall items, etc.

14 bluescreens which said they were gathering information for this problem and would shut down the comp when done, but never did. One time I let it sit for over 2 hours at the blue screen just to see if I was not giving it time.

2 times I had to restore my computer to an earlier date which was less than satisfactory. On the first of these restores which was about 3 days into the upgrade, the new browser program Microsoft Edge disappeared and I never saw it again. I looked at every place I could on Microsoft sites to find out how and where to reinstall it without success so finally just gave up. Cortana still worked but she wouldn’t use my microphone, said it was too old to be compatible with her, so had to keep unplugging it and using laptop mike if I wanted something from her. Picky lil’ lady she is.

On bootup about once out of every 4 or 5 times, it would boot to a black screen and I would have to shut down manually and restart.

Microsoft Word and Excel both lost all custom settings that I have used and modified since I’ve had them.

I averaged about 3 total lockups of UO per day while 10 was installed and I never have had that before, lockups so severe I had to turn off the game manually and restart the computer to get it to come back.

I kept trying to hang in there figuring all the updates that kept rolling in (I believe there were about 25 of them in the 10 days) surely would fix these problems but to no avail. Today I lost the start menu, action menu, and basically nothing that pertained to Windows worked so I completely lost my patience and reverted back to Windows 7. Now all my Word and Excel custom settings are gone again and virus program, malware program, comp optimizer program had to be reinstalled and reactivated again. All the personalized settings in Windows 7 are also gone. I am not a happy camper to say the least. And what makes me more unhappy is that I know I have to face all this again sometime in the next year.

That sounds *exactly* what I went through lol. I'm back on 7 again, with some work everything is back to normal. I had to reinstall my virus protection, Logictech keyboard software and such also. I think I'll be ok with 10 when I get a new computer.

Before anyone upgrades I'd highly recommend going to the website of whoever made your computer and see if it's compatible with Windows 10. Most of the better brands will tell you.

Win10 has run flawlessly for me with UO(both clients), and every other program I usually use. The upgrade was incredibly smooth and painless for me as well.

Those that are having issues, do you meet the min specs for Win10?

Windows said I was fine when it checked my system before the upgrade, but it wasn't lol. Worked great on my laptop that had 8.1. I really hated 8.1 so I'm happy about that. I'm fine with 7 on my desktop for now. It's getting pretty old, like 5 years old. That's like 120 years old in the computer world. I'm sure if I wanted to put the time into it I could work it out. But the computer is so old already I figure why bother. It was just one thing after another and trying to work through the various blue screens of death, each with different errors, I said forget it.

BSODs are usually drivers fault, and with a 5 years old computer, I can see device drivers having trouble with Windows 10 if the vendors don't keep them updated.
In that case, yeah, you're better off with 7 till you buy a new computer.

Windows 10 is running like a charm on my laptop. 8.1 ran really smooth on it, and 10 seems to be keeping the status quo.

Runs amazingly well for me. But my PC is a top end gaming rig so it's to be expected.

Running fine for my dad too from what he told me though. On his desktop and on a rubbish 4 year old netbook.

I've read of prices like $119 and $199 for versions of WIN 10 after the free offer runs out. With all the bad reports on WIN 10 I've read various places I may just go for the 5 years of happiness with WIN 7 and whatever for WIN 8.1 support and not switch to WIN 10 at all. Heck I may not live that long and die without ever having to deal with it.

I have only updated my desktop so far but have had absolutely zero problems. It's a custom built pc that I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro. Performed the upgrade, wiped the SSD and then did a clean install (I don't like having one OS written over the top of another, personal preference). Runs like a champ.

My laptop will likely be another story because it is a four year old Vaio and I'm pretty sure Sony isn't updating their proprietary software for Windows 10. I'll most likely do the same thing with my laptop as I did with my desktop and then not even worry about re-installing the bulk of the Sony crapware after a clean OS install. The only thing I'm worried about are some of my IDE's which are no longer supported (Dev C++ is old but it's what I learned on so I'm comfortable with it, but I can live without it if I need to, there are others).

Yes, that was checked first thing, they said my system was fine.

Performance test results from Windows 7 --- (Top possible score 7.9)
Processor 7.4
Memory (Ram) 7.5
Graphics 7.1
Gaming Graphics 7.1
Primary Hard Disk 7.8

I have IOBit Driver Booster and drivers are always up to date.

I have a feeling it may be something to do with my virus program or IOBit's Ultimate Care or Malware programs.

Ugh that sucks! I'm honestly (usually) super hesitant about upgrading. I was on Win98 FOREVER, way longer than I should have been. But win7 treated me well, then I skipped 8 completely. Win10 has been pretty amazing so far. I'm impressed despite the minor bugs I've personally seen so far. Hope you guys get it worked out! Or just stay on 7 cause that's still awesome too! :)

I'm fine with my system performance. I5 processors aren't completely dead yet. I really only wanted Windows 10 for Directx 12. For all the pain I'd have to get Windows 10 going I don't think it's worth it. Eventually Microsoft will drop support for 7 and hopefully by then I'll be motivated to get a new computer anyway.

Intel SSD backed up by a Samsung SSD, love 'em to death, no faster easier way to speed up your PC than slapping in an SSD and..........not expensive anymore either.
I'll look into that hard drive! On your other post, I'm using Avast. Works great on 7 not sure about 10. I also like how you can disable/enable it easily if you wish to see if it's causing any problems.
