Some time ago extremely frustrated with the treatment UO was getting from EA I wrote to this address: [email protected] .... it was a lengthy letter well written in which I pretty much chastised the Origin Store and demanded that they do something about the strangulation they were doing to the game I loved. It was a long heartfelt letter explaining how many of us have suffered through their horrifying new "Account Mis-Management" System and how it had destroyed a great many players and driven them from the game. I got a very kind reply from their head of public relations.... but the boy wanted specifics I couldn't give. I directed him to over 100 Stratics posts regarding players losing accounts, not able to get their accounts activated or keep them activated and the losing of their beloved items leading to them quitting UO. I demanded something be done to rectify the situation and that they STOP trying to destroy the one and only game they have that is such a treasure. I explained that it was over 15 years old and needed to be treasured for the diamond that it is.Sad thing is is this is a web site for Ultima Online and Ultima Online has nothing to do with the EA/Origin store other than Ultima Online stuff is sold on it. UO has nothing to do with what is or is not sold there as it belongs to EA and I get the feeling that EA really doesn't care about us that much. EA runs EA Store and EA Account Management and as long as EA get our money they are happy.
There are other ways.Forgive my ignorance but is it possible to buy elsewhere or through a player?
I don't know how the codes or stores differ but it seems there would be ways around this.
I mean if you use PayPal I could email you the code
again, excuse my ignorance, but could you use a prepaid card with a limited balance? There are other ways.
One could use a VPN to access the US store, which seems to be the only one with the full stock of items.
But I wouldn't trust my credit card data to run through a VPN. That is a third party's server that could be sniffing packages.
If you rent a dedicated server in the US, it is also possible to remote in to use it to access the US store, but then that can trigger the bank to block your credit card as it is being used literally internationally, and if that doesn't happen, there are several other government taxes here when you use your credit card for international purchases, on top of unfavourable exchange rate.
So it is not exactly a great idea to do it.
Well the expansion is free and shouldn't require purchasing. If such things were offered here.
Since interest rates are so high here in Brazil, offering prepaid credit cards isn't lucrative enough for banks to offer those services.
And in the end, it makes no sense for a company that lives off subscription and selling virtual goods to not have full stock available to every country they have customers at.
I could understand taking 2 or 3 months to fix that, but it has been 3 years now.
And considering that the latest booster pack isn't available on every store, what assures us that the new expansion will be? That is a very troubling thought.
You'd think, wouldn't you? However, EA only has 4 MMOs (UO, DAoC, SWTOR, TSW). DAoC uses Origin to sell game time but no items (as far as I can tell, that game doesn't use them), SWTOR and TSW both have their own stores which appear to have nothing to do at all with Origin. And in the end, it makes no sense for a company that lives off subscription and selling virtual goods to not have full stock available to every country they have customers at.
This would be outstanding IF EA would allow it but then EA would be giving up control of the purse strings when it comes to UO & DAoC. It would be also great if EA would let BS run its own account management but then again you have to ask is EA gonna give up the purse strings and trust UO to hand over all moneys collected.Broadsword needs to create its own store to have any hope of adequately pleasing its subscribers. Don't hold your breath.
Chances are that any monies Broadsword generated from a game item store would be (mostly) funneled directly back into EA, and likely in a greater quantity than Origin presently generates. Though I'm guessing that the prices for many items might get tweaked from their current out-of-touch amounts. No purse strings involved. This would be outstanding IF EA would allow it but then EA would be giving up control of the purse strings when it comes to UO & DAoC.
